Spirit Guide

"A spirit guide...What happened next?" Damon was very intrigued. He had only heard of spirit guides, but had never met one. They were supposed to live in the Snowy Mountains and guide Lava bears to their final destinations. He may have disliked the Dark Elves, but he had always respected spirit guides.

"Well, I made the second biggest mistake in my life… I allowed them to convince me to show them the stone. I was just angry at how they teased my knowledge. They thought they had found such a rare gem, but they weren't going to let me know how special I was." Saundra took a deep breath.

"They said that collecting a useless stone was maybe brave, but I had a lot to learn. They were right. They said that maybe the stone would allow them to teach me their ways, but I would have to do much more. I was just a kid. I didn't know anything, except that I needed a teacher." Damon's hand went on Saundra's shoulder. Saundra laughs taking his hand off.

"I went with them and I did all the dirty work. I wanted a real adventure."

"What happened to Mairi?" Damon tilted his head. Saundra's fake smile deteriorates as she looks back to him. The wind blew sending shivers down his spine.

"2 years later I went back… That's not the right word… I took my freedom back. Ms. Violet informed me that Mairi had gone out on an adventure. She had convinced herself that I was gone, and wasn't coming back. She thought it was her fault, that she was too needy, an Energy Leech. I have spent every day since then looking for her." Saundra swallows blinking a few times.

"Have you met the spirit guide for a second time?" Damon asks.

"What do you mean?" Saundra shakes her head.

"Nothing, that's good news. And what you meant with Fanella… you think she is being taken advantage of?" Damon asks.

"I think it's worse. I didn't know the people who used me. She may think it's normal that she has an obligation. I don't know much about the Light Elves, but I do know that look on her face. She is scared to go back. Even if she does what she is set out to do, she really doesn't want to stay where she is so deeply hated. I mean who would…"

"I don't know if I should say this, but she has been...scared as of late."Damon shares slowly as if he were betraying Fanella.

"Of course she has. When you are in a situation like that, you don't want those who you… wish to get to know better to know. It makes you look.... Weak." Saundra subconsciously reaches for her knife.

"There is no way, Light Elves don't associate themselves with anyone." Damon gets almost offended.

"Uh huh… that explains why she needed a human, why she looked like one, and why she kept looking at you like you were a breath of air as she was drowning…" Saundra chuckled.

"What?"

"Come on, Lover boy." Saundra began walking away. Damon could tell Saundra felt a great relief. He assumed it was because she had needed to get that story off her chest. It was part of it, but there was something much bigger that Saundra was hiding.
