Cave of Wolves

As he explored his new birthplace he found himself lost in thought. His world had been turned upside down. He was no longer human yet he still wanted to become stronger, to cultivate. But now the reason he chose to train was different.

'I have to protect my mother, no matter what'. He could walk on his own thanks to the the glowing liquid. It had a strange effect on his body, as if his genetics had been directly altered.

Unlike in cultivation, the liquid's energy was absorbed instantly, and strangely enough fused directly with his body.

'A cultivator summons down the energy of the heavens with his force of will to temper his inner core, but it seems that the beasts have the ability to absorb things with qi directly into their body"

The liquid seemed to act as a multiplier for his strength. Before his new body barely had the strength to walk a couple meters. Now it felt like that power was running though an amplifier and surged throughout his body.

It was not only his strength that had been enhanced. When he first awakened here he could not see anything without the small streams of sunlight that now pervaded the area. Now, he could see clearly even in complete darkness.

'There were techniques to see in the dark when I was human, to think that liquid was powerful enough to grant the ability without a technique'. He began to appreciate the wolves that gifted him such a powerful thing.

'It seems to be something of a tradition for the wolves of this cave to drink the liquid, every wolf here has markings of some kind, however, it seems some have more than others'

He had a good idea why there were more markings on some of the wolves. He had only drank a drop of the liquid, yet his experience as a cultivator told him that if he drank any more as he was... then he would die.

'When the wolves come of age they drink a a mere drop from the liquid, when the wolves grow older or become stronger they are likely allowed to return for more'

'The most common trait between humans and beasts is the spiritual or inner core. however it seems a beasts inner core is more closely related to the physical world, allowing them to absorb energy directly from the things they eat'.

He realized that if he was going to get stronger, he would have to hunt down powerfull opponents and devour their inner core. 'What a dark power, I can see why the beast's assault was so relentless in my past life.

His train of thought was interrupted by his mother's gentle nudging. His tiny body was nearly toppled over by her affectionate nuzzling. My mother is stronger than I thought, her markings are more complex than any of the wolves other than the gray wolf who was guarding the liquid.

'She must be powerful among those on the cave'. He was surprised, but she did have a reincarnated cultivator as a son, perhaps there was a connection there. Then came her message "We're going to your father". 'What, my father? '

She did not waste time as she barked out her intention and picked him up by the nape of his neck. She took off running so fast that he struggled to keep his eyes open despite not even facing forward. 'She's fast, stronger than any wolf I met in my past life'

She ran through so many tunnels and took so many turns that he began to question just how big this cave actually is. Nonetheless he had to memorize this route incase he needed to return later. He forced himself to keep his eyes open and did his best to remember the route.

After five minuets of running at full speed his mother had finally begun to slow down. He suddenly sensed immense pressure akin to the cultivators he fought with at his prime in his previous life. He narrowed his eyes, 'There was such a powerful wolf in this cave?'

His mother placed him on the ground and bowed, he simply stared at her, she gave him a look of warning and he swallowed his pride as a formerly respected cultivator and followed suit.

A bark that held a deep serenity came from in front of them. "Raise your heads"

A wolf with fur as black as night and aquamarine eyes sat atop a stone in front of them. 'His markings are on another level than the other wolves in this cave, they cannot be compared to the simple patterns on the wolves outside'.

The black wolf spoke again, his voice seemingly right next to them, "Hello Razsai, how was the delivery"? His mother responded without hesitation "The child is safe, the birth went well"

The resounding reply came "Good, now how is my son?
