one; desire

Desire.

The feeling manifested out of "craving," or "want".

It is the root of greed, yet at the same time the root of good...

"Mother, look at what I can do!"

A small child, no less than five years of age, called out to his mother. Smiling gently, the mother looked at her young child.

"[Fo̱teinós]!" The child shouted, emitting light from his palms. His face was smug, until another child popped out.

"Psh, I can do that, too!"

A similar looking child popped out from behind the former one, chanting the same incantation as he did.

"[Fo̱teinós]," it said. It emitted the same light, albeit brighter.

The two looked at each other, sparks flying. After a stare-off, they both looked parallel each other and looked at their mother.

""Who performed better, mother?!""

The mother of the two blinked a few times, and smiled proudly, happy that her children are capable of such feats at young ages. "You both did great, you two. Your father would surely be proud as I am when he finds out."

The two softly sighed at their mother's gentle demeanor.

The two children, the former male and latter female, are fraternal twins with different appearances as well.

The older one, male, Aerol, has crimson hair and bright, gold eyes.

The younger one, female, Aerra, has purple hair and indigo eyes.

Although the two have differences as clear as day, they still acknowledge each other as beloved family.

"Children."

Suddenly, a voice resounded throughout the courtyard. Silence covered the yard as the source of the voice walked towards the mother and her children.

"Duke Reynolds!" The twins said with happy faces.

"Good morning," the three, the twins and their mother, said simultaneously.

Duke Reynolds merely nodded in return. His crimson hair, akin to Aerol's, swayed with the wind, his azure eyes seemingly full of wisdom and knowledge. His face was as stoic as always, and his battle scar that surrounded his left eye, from upper to lower, left an intimidating aura. And even with this intimidating appearance, the two children continued to smile as if he was a friendly, gentle being like their mother.

"We practiced using our magi today!" Aerol started.

"And we tried a new spell!" Aerra finished.

The two's smiles were as bright as the sun's rays, their cuteness illuminating the courtyard.

Eyebrows furrowing, the man opened his mouth.

"Aerol, Aerra. Do you desire my position as [General]?"

The two looked at each other, thinking. After their little brainstorming session, they immediately nodded and looked at their father with determined eyes.

"...Yes, father!"

"If that is so, answer this. You and your troops and family are surrounded by enemies. The troops on one side, and your family the other. To save one side, you have to sacrifice the other. Which do you save?"

The man asked seriously. The two children thought for a bit, but they eventually their heads dropped down low.

""I do not know...""

The two, once again, murmured simultaneously.

"Aerol, Aerra. If you do not have determination, you are not fit to be a [General]."

The man turned and left, leaving the three behind.
