Gravitational Beam Emitter

Chapter 23 — Gravitational Beam Emitter.

Lake Base | 1:30 PM.

At the lake base, Jason's group went down a lengthy spiral staircase until eventually reaching the bottom of the said place.

"Yuhata, are you sure it's possible to reach the research facility by just using a key?" Izana asked doubtfully.

Yuhata shrugged her shoulder. "We'll not know unless we try. Besides, obtaining this key was a hassle! All my work would be for nothing if we don't at least try it!"

Izana looked at her speechlessly.

Jason, Nagate, and Hoshijiro laughed lightly.

Yuhata soon faced the wall before them, taking out the key from her pocket and inserted it into a keyhole.

Beep!

With a twist of the key, a mechanical beeping sound resounded.

[ Access Granted. ]

Swiish!

The large wall immediately slide open from both sides, creating a wide entrance that leads into an unknown tunnel.

Jason stared at the dark tunnel, and prepared himself by taking out a flashlight from his utility belt.

"Lets enter inside," He gestured while slowly walking inside, taking the lead for them.

"Should we really enter it? The tunnel looks so dark and scary...." Izana mumbled nervously.

Yuhata, Nagate, and Hoshijiro also looked nervous. However, all of then quickly followed after Jason.

As soon as all of them entered, the wide entrance suddenly closed.

Bam!

The entrance shut tightly into a wall again, causing the entire room to get blanketed in complete darkness.

"Uwahh!"

"Wahh!"

"Ah!"

"It's so dark!"

The suddenly darkness scared them, causing them to hug Jason from behind.

Jason chuckled. He turn his flashlight on, quickly illuminating the dark tunnel which caused them to calm down.

"Ummm, can I now please go back to the Gravity Inn?" Izana said while slightly trembling.

Hoshijiro tried to open the wall, but she found it not budging even a little bit.

"Unfortunately, it seems we can't return from here..."

"Ehh!? Doesn't that mean we're now completely stuck here!?" Izana panicked with a pale expression.

"I'll try call for help from the outside..." Yuhata said, but then soon let out a sigh. "There's no signal here."

Hoshijiro found a light switchboard, but it was broken.

"The lights won't turn on too... Our flashlights has limited battery."

They soon gradually felt nervous, not knowing what to do next.

"Calm down. Don't lose hope yet since there might be another exit somewhere," Jason tried to calm them down.

"Right! There still might be a method to communicate outside here!" Yuhata's eyes brightened.

As a result, their mood quickly improved significantly.

All of them started walking across the darkly lit tunnel, Jason's flashlight acting as their only light source in order to conserve others for later uses.

As they were walking, Jason suddenly stopped walking. His acute senses sensing many little things around them.

"What's wrong?" Hoshijiro asked curiously.

Jason pointed his flashlight around them, all of their expressions soon creasing in disgust after seeing what's on the floor, walls and ceiling.

The dark tunnel was heavily infested with insects and cockroaches, moving around them as silently as possible.

An uncontrollable shivers appeared across their whole bodies, they immediately ran ahead to avoid the cockroaches and insects.

Jason hated those disgusting and filthy cockroaches, especially those fucking flying winged cockroaches. It even became more apparent after watching Terraformars.

He never expected to see them again within Sidonia.

In the future, he would certainly drive these bastards into extinction. Currently, he sounded like a certain emperor.

They quickly reached a place which was like a sewer area. Fortunately, there were no cockroaches here except for the wide canal of waste water.

"Damn, there were so many cockroaches... My heart won't stop beating so rapidly..." Yuhata muttered those words while panting exhaustedly.

They could only agree with her words.

"When I lived underground, I also didn't like cockroaches despite me already tasting many insects..." Nagate said while remembering about his past. "I miss grandpa and the underground..."

Jason and the others stared at Nagate weirdly after hearing him say about eating insects.

"Amazing... You're a natural-born underground survivalist," Jason praised him, making Nagate feel quite embarrassed.

Then suddenly—

Stare...

Izana glanced at her side, noticing a pair of hollowed eyes staring at them. It caused her to scream terrifiedly. Jason also noticed the eyes, but it immediately vanished.

Yuhata and Hoshijiro were surprised to hear Izana suddenly screaming loudly, but Nagate suddenly jolted away and ran ahead of them.

Jason didn't know what those hollowed eyes were, but he decided to follow after Nagate along with the other three girls.

On their way toward him, however, the lights suddenly turned on, illuminating the dark place brightly.

They soon managed to find Nagate.

"I smelled a working light switchboard since I'm very familiar with it. Also, I managed to find something that might allow us to exit here," Nagate explained toward them.

As expected of a natural-born underground survivalist. Jason didn't even know the smell of a switchboard, but he should able to instantly do the same once he also got familiar with it.

All of them soon went toward the place where Nagate was talking about earlier.

At that place, they found a large elevator that looked very old.

"The elevator looks so old and broken. Will it still work?" Jason inspected the elevator closely.

"I think I can fix it. While living underground, I became very experienced with repairing broken objects!" Nagate humbly said while proceeding to fix the elevator's mechanical gear box.

Many minutes later, he managed to fix the elevator to a barely working state. Still, it was quite impressive.

All of them soon entered the elevator and started it.

"Where is this even heading?" Jason asked, but they also didn't know.

While they were riding it, an announcement suddenly resounded from the intercom.

It said that they will soon reach the zero-gravity area.

"Are you guys wearing your magnetic boots?" Jason asked carefully as it would be a disaster if they didn't.

Fortunately, they nodded their head as they came here prepared. They activated the safety feature of the boots.

[ Entering Zero-Gravity Area. ]

The elevator soon stopped, the door opening widely.

Jason and the others suddenly felt their body growing very light, but the magnetic boots prevented them from floating.

Jason was about to leave the elevator with them, but abruptly felt his head ringing painfully.

He held his temples while groaning causing the others to look worriedly at him.

"Don't worry. You guys can go ahead," Jason said toward them with a calm smile.

They didn't know why but they nodded their head, walking across the completely white hallway.

The large spacious room they arrived at was also completely white.

⟨ Host, I sensed the presence of a placenta; it has a unique scent mixed with human. ⟩

Jason frowned deeply. The Chimera Monster must be near them. Furthermore, it was still inside Sidonia...

He left the elevator, quickly following after Nagate and the three girls.

However, Jason was stunned to suddenly see them knocked completely unconscious on the floor. He saw glass needles inserted on their neck.

It was a tranquilizer!

He then noticed a large white building in front of them. On the wall, he saw the words that read as MSCD 5.

Jason knew it stands for Max Security Containment Facility.

"There's one more of them! Quickly put him into sleep!"

Ten masked security personnel immediately surrounded Jason, aiming their tranquilizer guns toward him.

However, the person that attracted Jason's interest was the masked woman with her hair styled as long twin tails.

Her scent was very familiar to him... It was Yure Shinatose!

Swoosh!

Swoosh!

The security personnel quickly fired their tranquilizer guns, silently releasing thin needles toward him.

The speed was fast, but Jason quickly avoided all of it.

"Continue firing!"

More tranquilizer needles were shot, flying toward Jason from every directions.

Yure Shinatose just silently watched as she thought it was not appropriate for Jason and the others to be in this place.

"Tch," Jason clicked his tongue, his eyes swepting all of the tranquilizer needles.

Thought Acceleration activated instantly, causing his entire perception to slow down due to his insane processing-speed.

Jason's fingers were secretly covered with a veil of black red particles, his entire body spinning around as he catched all of the flying needles between his fingers.

The security personnel were immediately stunned speechless.

"Im-Impossible! How can a human achieve that kind of feat!?"

They quickly felt scared and unknowingly started backing away, ready to fire their tranquilizer guns again.

However, Jason didn't gave them that chance.

His body rotated again, his fingers throwing the needles back toward them.

Puchi!

Puchi!

Puchi!

Their armour proved ineffective, the needles easily piercing it under the powerful force of Jason.

All of them soon dropped to the ground, falling unconsious after getting hit by their own tranquilizer.

Yure Shinatose was utterly shocked, but then sighed while shaking her head helplessly. It indeed wasn't good to underestimate Jason.

"Care to explain about this?" Jason asked while staring at Yure.

Yure Shinatose nodded before removing her mask. The twin tails was actually part of the mask. Her real black hair was short, just reaching the shoulder.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience earlier, but it was required because this place is something the unauthorized person can't enter. I don't know how you guys entered, though."

Jason laughed awkwardly after hearing her explained.

"I'm sorry too. I guess it's also kinda my fault since I dragged them along with me."

"It's fine now, but please don't tell my secret identify to Izana, okay?"

Jason nodded.

Yure smiled in relieved before making a curious expression.

"Why are you guys here?"

Jason found no reason to say a lie.

"We wanted to find Ochiai's research facility because I wanted to know about the so-called Chimera Monster."

"I understand... I'll grant your wish. It's about time to let you know about it. Captain has already given me approval."

Jason followed Yure Shinatose inside the facility.

He didn't needed to worry about the safety of Nagate and the others since they promised to bring them back toward the Gravity Inn.

...

Research Facility | 2:40 PM.

Jason arrived inside a spacious room after following Yure Shinatose.

His eyes soon widened largely after seeing a colossal glass tank filled with slimy green water.

Inside the tank, there was a large humanoid placenta that looked strange and horrible as its body was mostly damaged, missing a limb and appeared very messy like It was some kind of incomplete product.

It was the First Chimera.

"Is this really the Chimera?"

"Yes. An experiment of Ochiai. A Chimera made out of placenta and human cells. It doesn't even have a shell."

Yure Shinatose explained, but another voice suddenly resounded.

"We managed to make Artificial Kabi by using it. However, like the Kabizashi, this monster also constantly emmits a radiation wave that attracts other Gauna," Kobayashi appeared within the darkness, walking toward Jason.

"Why haven't you destroyed such a dangerous thing?" Jason asked curiously.

He held no contempt as there must definitely be a reason.

"Soon enough. At first, we have no plan to destroy it as Kabi is the only thing capable of killing a Gauna. But it now change because of you, Jason," Kobayashi said while revealing a rare light smile.

Without knowing it, she started to show more smile when around him.

"I see..." Jason nodded while feeling something warm within his chest. Her words made him feel happy and special.

"Can I know the exact meaning behind your words of soon enough?"

Kobayashi nodded.

"The first reason is because we want to further improve our understanding over the placenta's biological structure. Second, we wanted to replicate its unfinished but still very powerful weapon."

"Weapon...?" Jason was extremely interested to know what kind of weapon it was.

And soon, his crimson eye lit up very brightlty, showing Mr. Alien's current emotion.

"The Gravitational Beam Emmiter."

...

I know this is following the canon, but i thought this was a good way to introduce Jason to Ochiai's works and earn as much from him.

I think nothing much is known about the First Chimera. I don't really remember clearly. But I think Ochiai was already trying to understand and experiment with the Gravitational Beam Emitter using her. So the Chimera must possessed some of its gravity beam's incomplete technology. However, I'm thinking of gaining the full technology at Ochiai's private lab.

Your power stones will make me a happy single man.
