The Nightmare's Prelude

Chapter 39 — The Nightmare's Prelude.

"Will we survive again this time?"

"It will be alright, my love... I'll make sure we both survive!"

"My best friend, If I die will you mourn for me?"

"Yeah... And don't worry about your wife back at home, I'll take care of her after you die."

"You motherfucking bastard! I'll definitely not die!"

"Haha, that's more like it."

Donning his jet-black pilot suit that resembled a less bulky spacesuit, Jason hovered across the zero-gravity hallway leading toward the Guardian's hangar.

While doing so, he witnessed some official pilots still expressing their concerns and anxiousness about their own survival against the Gaunas despite the many innovative changes that has happened.

Their nervousness and fear weren't necessarily a bad thing, but rather a good source of emotions that will not allow them to have rooms for being conceited and overconfident. It will instead push them to strive more better in order to fight that fear and despair.

Jason thought the situation like that. There wasn't any reason for him to view it as a serious problem.

He soon reached the location of Rokurome, silently examining his partner. It experienced various minor changes compared before, now having a slender yet bulky mechanical spear tail at the waist. It also possessed countless micro-sensors all around its entire body, making the TPIG SYSTEM more powerful, but also difficult to handle as it didn't just used the dual eyes sensor.

Nevertheless, Jason was satisfied by Rokurome's minor improvements. Although it might seem insignificant, it will actually largely help him fight more better and efficiently.

Jason guessed the Rokurome would only experience a major transformation after the Type 20 Guardian Knight was finally created.

And he had heard that Toha Heavy Industry were already trying to create the prototype of the Type 20.

Jason immediately boarded Rokurome's cockpit, causing its dual eyes to shine ominously after fully activating.

He took a deep breath, closing his eyes as his mind submerged into an tranquil ocean; his concentration and focus reaching the limit.

It was now once again time for the Demon to descend upon the battlefield.

...

There were a total of 60 Guardian Knights and official pilots deployed to eliminate the army of 200 Gaunas. They were also separated into three separate groups — each of them forming into three large rotating circles as they used the signature palm formation.

The left wing group was led by the Tanikaze Squad, the right wing group was led by Samari Squad, and the center body was led by Akai Squad.

The Ace Squad, the Experienced Squad, and the Top Squad.

The three Guardian Groups were commanded to eliminate the three Gauna Groups.

Jason was also travelling with the center body to be able to quickly provide assistance to every sides.

"Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3, head to the designated position, and wait for the Gaunas to arrive within range!" Yuhata commanded using the open public channel. "We'll use the strategy of sniping them from afar."

"""Roger!!"""

All official pilots quickly replied, every Guardian Knights soon dissembling from their palm formation after reaching the designated position, soon preparing themselves to snipe the approaching Gaunas.

At the location of the center body, Rokurome hovered while emmiting a burst of blue particles from its back.

Jason narrowed his eyes.

[ Gaunas Detected! ]

[ Distance: Approximately 430 Kilometers Away! ]

That warning was issued to every official pilots present at the battlefield, causing them to immediately take aim and fire their mass drivers continuesly toward the approaching Gaunas.

Every Guardian Knights only had 30 shells available to them due to lacking time. They made sure to aim properly, but many were missing some of the shots since their target was so faraway and constantly moving to avoid them.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

With a press of the triggers, all mass drivers were fired continuesly, many thunderous explosions spreading.

Whoong!

Whoong!

Countless explosive shells rained toward toward the army of Gaunas, piercing across the space like spears of light.

Boom!

Boom!

One Gauna after another were pierced by the raining shells, immediately exploding into a see of bubbles after their True Bodies were pierced. For some reason, however, some of the Gaunas appeared sturdier and stronger, needing at least two or three bullets to completely eliminate them.

Jason realized about this fact, causing him to stop shooting momentarily, choosing to attack with a different method to test out something.

Rokurome's two eyes lit up, accumulating a vast amount of unstable particles that threatened to explode at any moment.

Swooosh!

Two laser beams were released, hitting toward a Gauna that quickly melted, but still survive as the placenta stopped the lasers from completely penetrating.

As expected... It seems like the Gaunas placenta armours were more sturdier and energy resistant, even covered with a thin biological membrane that functioned like the Anti-Beam Coating.

Jason was somehow glad that the Gaunas still haven't developed a counter-measure against the mass drivers, or else this situation would've become more difficult.

"Jason over to the command unit, it seems like the Gaunas has evolved to adapt once again, showing a much more powerful and sturdier body. It also has a biological Anti-Beam Coating."

Not only that, if one were to observe more closely, they appeared more agile and quicker compared to before.

Yuhata grew solemn, thinking that they really couldn't underestimate the Gauna Race. Once they did, only an inevitable end would greet humanity.

She then quickly replied, "Thank you for reporting a very important information."

Kobayashi thought that they indeed needed to hasten the development of Sidonia to become much more faster and crazier than the abnormal adaptation of the Gauna Race.

The official pilots also heard about this useful information, now understanding why some of the Gauna still survived even after getting shot once by the powerful mass driver.

Their future battle against the Gauna Race made them feel anxious, but It also brought a stronger desire to become more powerful and united.

The three groups continued their shooting spree, the number of the Gaunas rapidly reducing as they advanced.

The Gaunas were capable of strong long-ranged attack, but weren't able to deal that much threat. It shows how long-range attacks were their fatal weakness, only their melee being incredible and formidable.

The battle against the army of Gaunas soon ended with ease, the humanity rejoicing happily as all of them managed to survived.

Little did they know, this attack planned by Ocarina was just a small prelude for humanity's worst nightmare.

Today's battle against the Gaunas, Jason managed to impressively managed to shot down 89 Gaunas himself. Unlike the others, Jason possessed 100 shells since his skills were that great. It was the same for other talented pilots, receiving much more priority for ammunition.

Jason's record was followed after Nagate with an amazing 57 eliminations and Akai with 55 eliminations.

"Good work," Jason said toward everyone who fought alongside him.

The battle against the Gauna Race was impossible without the others help, even for the skilled and powerful person like himself.

...

This was pretty bland, I must say since I didn't know what exactly to do; I am lost.

Sorry for not uploading yesterday, I was busy with something else related to school and a game. Also, I feel drained and worn out by constantly forcing new ideas from my mind like technologies and plots, so I will take it slow I said previously.
