Mukuro activated his sharingan and vigilantly looked in front. Confusion masked his face when he saw no chakra signatures but felt a slight presence behind him. Turning around, he could barely see a large white snake laying there staring back at him with interest. A portion of memories slowly surfaced within his head as he confirmed the being in front of him, the White snake sage.
Indeed, the being in front of him was the white snake sage of the Ryuchi cave. Although fear gripped his heart when he saw the monstrosity in front of him, his Uchiha pride didn't allow him to show any weaknesses. Lowering his body, Mukuro increased his vigilance as he looked around and concentrated on the snake in front of him.
The white sage snake was an Albino rat snake that just laid there on a seat as it coiled itself while its body had golden circular bands. The snake wore a turban with two pointed edges and a red orb in the middle alongside a chain necklace with a green orb. The monstrosity looked down at him as a female voice left the snake's mouth,
"It seems we have an unexpected guest, an Uchiha as well. Considering your surprise, it means that you weren't expecting to arrive here."
Mukuro nodded as the White snake sage continued,
"It seems that you used the summoning technique to arrive here. When one doesn't have a contract with a summon, they arrive at the home of the animal they have a natural affinity for. You, young one, have arrived at Ryuchi cave, the residence of snakes."
Mukuro didn't know what to say as he just narrowed his eyes.
"Normally, one must pass the trials to be granted an audience with me, yet you haven't. It is a policy that I have abided by all these years yet you showing up here has got me to reconsider."
While she was talking, a small white snake appeared and spat out a scroll. A hint of disgust flashed through Mukuro's eyes when he looked at the spit covered scroll and the idea of touching it as a hint of reluctance showed on his face.
"Don't worry, you won't be touching that any time soon, you still have to pass a set of trials to earn the right to print your name on the scroll. This will allow you to summon most of the snakes here. As for learning sage jutsu, it will depend on your performance. If it's acceptable and to my liking then I'll teach you otherwise you would have to take the trials like everybody else."
Mukuro nodded as the white snake sage turned silent. Puffing a breath of smoke from her Kiseru, the floor suddenly opened beneath Mukuro and he was dropped into what seemed like an abyss. The white snake sage's voice rung out next to his ear,
"First trial: Survive."
Mukuro had honestly gotten tired of hearing the word trial. The abyss seemed like it was never ending and Mukuro feared that he would just plummet to his death. Not being able to see anything due to the darkness didn't comfort him but his worry was short lived when he felt himself slow and land on a cold hard ground.
As his eyes had long gotten used to the dark and with the slight red tint of the sharingan, he could barely make out that he was in a large cavern. Looking round he could see different coloured sources of chakra surrounding him. Suddenly his instincts went wild as his sharingan picked off a few projectiles hurled in his direction. Knowing that there was most likely a group of shinobi surrounding him, he immediately dodged the projectiles and ran towards the first source of chakra. He could barely see the silhouette of the man as he sliced the man's neck with his tanto.
He didn't stop there, the group of shinobi seemed to be used to fighting in the dark as more projectiles were thrown at him. He also heard the rough winds inside the cavern meaning that one of them did a wind jutsu.
Looking around, he finished counting that there were about a dozen individuals inside this cavern and all of them were targeting him. Mukuro tried his best to slow his breathing and make as little noise as possible.
This seemed to have slightly worked but it he could sense that they could still see him. That was when it hit him, they couldn't see him but his sharingan. Mukuro hadn't taken part in many night battles so he couldn't tell but it seemed that the sharingan had a glow to it that attracted the attention of the others. Also, in this darkness, it was like a beacon for his enemies to target.
Deactivating his sharingan, he lost his main advantage and became totally blind. He couldn't see the enemy's positions but decided to take a pre-emptive strike, surprising all of them. He knew that the people were here for a long time and a hunch told him that light was now just a foreign thing for them.
Quickly doing a few hand seals, the sounds of bird chirping was heard within the cavern alongside a blinding flash of lighting. Mukuro had activated his sharingan as he looked at all the shinobi. The shinobi looked emaciated, yet the sudden light had blinded them as they used their two skinny hands to cover their eyes. They all wore tattered armours with their clan emblems on them. Mukuro noted that some looked familiar and they were all clans neighbouring the Uchiha and Senju clan's territory.
Mukuro's mind was already working to its highest limit as it worked out the most efficient path to take down all the enemies. Following that path, it all went without a hitch as Mukuro immediately dispatched his enemies. Regulating his breathing, a few more sources of chakra appeared in his vision.
Mukuro didn't know how long it had been as there was no concept of day and night within the dark area. He would continuously face waves of enemies, sometimes they were shinobi and sometimes he would go against snakes. Overtime he slowly got used to the dark and all his other senses were heightened. He thought of this as some sort of training as the one thing he was proud off was unusable.
However, the fighting did take a toll on his mental state as he found each fight harder and harder. Just when he was about to collapse, a figure appeared next to him and a female voice was heard from the figure,
"Reverse summoning technique!"
In the next instance, Mukuro found himself in front of the white snake sage but his mental stress had reached his limits and he collapsed right then and there.
'It's seems I've been fainting a lot lately.'
The white sage snake looked at the collapsed boy as she took a puff of smoke form her kiseru. The figure that reverse summoned him moved away as she also looked at Mukuro,
"Seeing that you ordered us to bring him back, seems like he passed your trials."
The white snake sage didn't say anything as the girl excused herself. A few hours later, Mukuro woke up and immediately got up as he looked around. Seeing that he was in front of the sage he waited for her verdict. The latter continued her silent as a scroll appeared in front of Mukuro.
Knowing that it was the scroll to enter into a contract with Ryuchi cave, he didn't hesitate and immediately signed his name with his blood. It wasn't until he signed his name did the white snake sage speak,
"Want to learn sage arts?"
Mukuro was surprised but didn't tarry,
"Yes."
This was the first time Mukuro had spoken since his arrival within Ryuchi cave. A contemplative look flashed through the sage's eyes as she carefully inspected Mukuro.
"Any other time I would just inject you with a large amount of sage chakra however, your body is too weak. So, for now, I would allow you to return home so you could tell your friends and family that you would be training and to pack some things. You are going to be here for a long time."
Mukuro didn't see how but he had been reverse summoned back to where he originally did the summoning technique. Making his way back to his house, his family was surprised seeing him alive. While Izuna had tears in his eyes as he ran and hugged Mukuro, a relieved expression lay on Madara's and Tajima's face. Tajima's expression was quickly replaced with a stern one as he started questioning Mukuro.
"Although we got your note, tell me where you were for the past couple days."
Mukuro was surprised upon finding out that two days had passed yet he explained everything. The more the three heard the more astonished they grew. Izuna, who was hugging Mukuro like a koala bear and never letting go, had admiration present in his sparkling eyes.
"Ryuchi cave…"
Tajima still couldn't believe it. Ryuchi cave was known as the one of the three strongest sage regions alongside Mount Myoboku and Shikkotsu Forest. All three had histories dating back to the sage of six paths era and his son had entered a summoning contract with one of them. As a father, he worried the most about Mukuro due to his weak body. Although he had shown the properties of a genius since young, he couldn't help worrying his physique bringing him down.
Now there was a sense of relief in his heart knowing that he was going to train there.
Madara looked at Mukuro and came up to him. Punching his shoulder, a smile was present on his face,
"We will see who's stronger when you come back."
Mukuro nodded and packed a few things. He took his naginata and a couple bags of food pills. A memory had triggered upon knowing that he was going to train at Ryuchi cave. A set of memories showing the type of food Naruto ate when he was training at Mount Myoboku was what made him take the alternative option. Although snakes were carnivorous animals, it would help to make sure that he has something to fall back on if he doesn't want to eat.
As soon as he finished packing, he bade farewell to his family and summoned a snake to reverse summon him back to Ryuchi cave.
Seeing Mukuro back, the white sage snake looked at him,
"Let's begin your training."
