Chapter 12: The Light Which Dances in the Darkness
Having no source of light I lay there, unaware of my surroundings.
For all, I knew something could jump me from all sides and I wouldn't even see it coming...
This thought disturbed me as I tried to lift myself from the ground. After I had fallen from that absurd height, I had survived!
Proud of the fact that I was still alive I twirled my tail around, yet no one could see.
Quickly I collected my thoughts and tried to move like I was one with the ground.
Unsure of my surroundings I had to find a way to find out where I had fallen to.
But, was there really away?
Thinking about any possible solution I tried feeling around with my claws as they dug into the ground... At the same time, I used my tail to maintain balance.
As I slowly covered ground and made a mental map of my surrounding I began to move faster ever so slightly, in the hopes of covering more ground.
Finally, I ran around and slammed into a brick wall with my head, or at least,
that was how it felt. Pain shot through my body from my head throughout the tip of my tail...
When suddenly an idea popped up in my head.
Wouldn't the system award me with some kind of reptilian vision, allowing me to see heat or even experience total darkness like the light of day?
As I tried to strain my eyes as I peered into the darkness, nothing chance,
even when I put in all my effort... Nothing happened.
I mean... I couldn't even see the damn wall which I had slammed into moments ago...
In a way, this frustrated me... I am a lizard, right? Right?! Then why can't I see in the dark!
Like all nocturnal animals?!
Frustrated I rested my back against the wall that not to long ago had hurt me...
As luck would have it I haven't had any encounters with the creature, not even those unknown to me. As I began to question if any creatures lived down here in the depths of darkness. Suddenly a speck of light could be seen in the distance.
Just when it began to register in my mind, it vanished just as quickly... again, total darkness...
I looked away for a moment as if to say that I didn't expect it to be real, when surely in the corner of my eye... the odd light appeared once more.
This time staying a while before it vanished into the depths of darkness. Deciding not to care I turned around when suddenly a similar light appeared in front of me. Quickly I turned around to make sure I wasn't dreaming, and surely now at both sights...
Lights had appeared... lights that swirled into the air without a care in the world.
As the lights began to distract me from what had the top priority.
"my survival" it almost felt like I found myself in some kind of trance.
Slowly staying close to the ground I began crawling closer to the lights, when as my pupils became bigger from excitement, suddenly I heard noises around me.
Subtle rustling and dragging noises...
*rustle* *drag* *rustle*
Just to be sure it wasn't just my tail I stayed in place, holding the breath I anticipated whatever could come to my waylaying in wait.
Again the noises arose from the depths of darkness, but now closer than before.
I froze... As it became clear I wasn't the only one around here.
Wanting to see in the dark and to create an opportunity to anticipate "who" or "what" was dragging itself around in this never-ending darkness, this was the perfect opportunity to test my new
As I recalled the tiny basilisk shot out a flash of light allowing it to petrify whatever his sight had locked on to. At the same time, this could be a tool to quickly gaze into the dark as if I was able to see, right?
As I joked to myself that the strain on its eyes should have serious backlash like what happened back then with a reflective surface, at the same time, I knew I had to be careful about it...
I took to myself anticipating where the rustling and dragging noises came from. For a moment, nothing happened, absolute silence... when suddenly.

The lights... the lights that I had seen dancing in the air were connected to a disgustingly big creature... A creature almost unable to describe, yet mostly consisted of a monstrous mouth...
Unable to grasp the horrors that had flashed before my eyes, I activated the skill once more.

this time the creature had looked straight at me. I froze in fear as our eyes met at that moment.
Pain shot through my eyes as the strain got to me, snapping me out of my fear.
What I saw... Shit... shit... shit! This can't be real, right?
What cruel god created such monstrosities?
The mouth I had previously seen, with my second glance I had memorized what it looked like...
A cold chill crossed my spine thinking about what the beast was able to do to those passing through... Because... its mouth alone... was almost five times my full size! Filled to the brim with teeth... whichever unfortunate soul would be caught within surely would never see the light of day, ever again...
It had no eyes... making me believe that the dancing orbs of light might have been something else... but, before I could be certain of my suspensions I had to make sure...

Something had fallen prey to the beast and I was glad it wasn't me... In the depths of the dark, I finally found solid ground. As I felt around the walls, soon after I found what felt like an opening in the walls. Going inside I took a well-deserved quick breather and collected my thoughts...
That was when I realized, at that moment... I had cheated death...
