Chapter Thirty-seven: POWER

Kiara was busy with meditation. She was trying to increase her soul power.

When Aarav came back from work she was still focused on her meditation. He left her to be.

He collapsed on the sofa and thought back to his day. Nothing made any sense. He hadn't made any progress at all. He was exhausted and he was already running out of time. He had already expended most of his energy to find clues. It left him more puzzled than before. Jeremy was looking into all the connection the man had and who he met in the past month. One of them had the locket. If they delayed any longer, that person will die.

Thinking up to this, Aarav ignored his exhaustion and went back into the dream field. He was soon welcomed into a dark room with multiple pictures hanging around. He got back to work. He soon found the clue. It did not take much time. It was all along in front of his eyes.

The man had kept the locket hidden in the safe. So the locket must still be with his family. Or someone from his family took it away. In previous cases, the locket had left their hands, and they suffered death.

Aarav ran out of the building. He got the clue. It had to be the son of the victim. He must have it.

He missed having a smartphone. He ran to the phone booth. There were not many people standing in line, so his turn came pretty soon.

He called Jeremy. He told Jeremy that he needed to meet him immediately. They made an arrangement to meet. Aarav hailed a cab and ran to meet the son of the victim. By the time he reached the place, Jeremy was already there.

"There's something I need to tell you before we go in."

"Oh! Go on."

"The thing is... I know the cause of these incidents. I told you that the Sanka merchant stole something from me. That thing is causing the death of these people. And now the son has the locket. He is in danger."

"You mean your belonging is causing death. What was it?"

"It's a locket. Actually, it's a family heirloom. It had been in my family for ages. It was passed on to me. I have no idea why these incidents are happening. But nothing happened in my family before. Nothing happened to me. Even I'm confused by what happened with those victims. I just want to take back my family heirloom."

Aarav lied to Jeremy. He did not own the locket. However, the locket had an owner. It was for the best that the locket stays with him. He knowingly stressed on the word family heirloom. So, Jeremy could help him.

"Hmm. I see."

He further added," That jeopardizes the situation. If you are right and indeed the incident was caused by the pendant, then we have to give it to the HQ as evidence. But it's your family heirloom."

Jeremy was deep in thought and then he suddenly snapped his fingers and said," Then we will not mention that locket. Let's go and ask him for the locket. He will give in if we scare him. If the locket goes back to you, the deaths will stop happening. No more deaths. No more clues. There are plenty of unsolvable cases. One more will not topple the ratio."

"Thank you so much,"

With that Aarav finally got back the locket. Just like he thought there were no more deaths. It was safe with him. He stored the locket in the storage ring. It would be safer to keep it there.

After a month, Kiara had finally increased her soul power. She was able to materialize her power. Before she could form a single leaf and it would dissipate soon. Now, those silver leaves did not dissipate. She could even form different forms with it. Though it was not perfect, she could make simpler objects. There was an improvement, but it was nowhere enough to hide her soul image.

She had to put more effort. She had been locked up in her room for a month now. She was pretty bummed. She wanted to go out. Her fear went back to the farthest corner in her mind as she was very bored also their finances were dwindling. She decided to join back work.

While thinking about the finances, she remembered the much-forgotten weapons in the storage ring. They still had not acquired any licences as they hardly got time.

She took the ring to Prof. Rigaro. If they were being accomplices (about hiding their special identity of being an Earthling) then they have to make better use of it. She decided to be as shameless as she could be to take help from him.

Rigaro was amazed by the collection of the weapons. They could fetch a very good price even outside Taiba. He signed a contract with Kiara, only charging her 5% commission. It was a generous amount.

Leaving behind a few weapons that Aarav liked, they sold everything. They were able to earn about a million gold coins. It was enough for them to buy a big bungalow. They decided not to be extravagant and settled for a simple apartment in the East Zone. The new apartment was closer to their workplace, saving them a lot of time.

Time flew away swiftly. They had very well adapted to their life in Caito. They kept in contact with Samuel and his group in Alchemy town. They found out that all the air hostesses were hired in the aristocrats' mansion. They were doing well. They were able to receive a message from them. Except Julia's whereabouts were unknown. Fiona was hired by a researcher, as a cook. She was doing extremely well. Although the researcher was grumpy, in front of Fiona and her delicious cakes, nothing works. She had tamed the researcher.

Tamara was in Crillon planet with Ruth and Brad. They were living in by a Duke's mansion.

Not much information was available about them. But it did not look like they were in any sort of trouble.

Asahi was still missing. Suho and Jun were also as good as gone.
