Chapter 166: Checkmate
[Human Empire Encampment]
Situated about Kaido's group took a space in between some of the tents and erect a place for their rest inside the Human Empire Encampment, consequently as the day grows deeper into the night one could see the bustling activities of the soldiers infront of their own bonfire
Followingly as everyone took their rest and rested, many of them didn't even took long until they drown in their own sleep that will allow any soldiers that are tensed to feel envy
During this time Kaido took this chance to slip through the darkness and pass through the sleeping soldiers, thus arriving infront of the Queen Empress Evelyn's tent
As he silently walks in, what he saw next was the view of the Queen Empress Evelyn in a one piece nightgown, sitting on a wooden chair while reading a book, at the same time positioned a chess piece on the board
Went Kaido entered the tent, the Queen Empress immediately felt his presence, thus voicing him out
"You don't have to sneakily look into a woman's room right?"
At this question Kaido adruptly glanced around and found out that he was already found out the moment their eyes have met

"Your surprised right? Well we can take our time chatting it out" said by the Queen Empress as she offered the sit opposite of the person herself
At first Kaido was a little bit hesitant, but soon he carefully took the sit and finally saw the situation in the board
Apparently the situation is that the white side has few pawns but has a complete elite, while the black side whom it's only pieces are pawns
At first one could derive that such situation is already hopeless, but if one thread this carefully one could easily answer this problem
As Kaido carefully moved the pieces while still following the rules in chess, the Queen Empress herself finally spoke up
"What do you want? There must be something you want since you took the chance to sneak into my tent"
Being found out Kaido slump down on his chair as he begun the talk
"I want your Sides support"
"Support? On what?" She asked
"Support especially your logistical and strength, and development" specified Kaido
Hearing this request that she didn't expect, Queen Empress Evelyn herself suddenly stopped his reading and looked straight towards Kaido's eye
But when she saw.only a calm stature of.red eyes, she somehow involuntarily sigh
"What do you want support such as that from? And don't you know that if we help you... . . This might cause disruption inside the empire itself?" Asks Queen Empress herself
"I know clearly of what will happen" said Kaido
"The disruption inside the empire is inevitable even if you don't lend a hand" he added
Hearing that the other party became confused as she asked
"What?"
"Easy... . . Because of the sudden change in the ways that the Empire operates, some noble and commoners would become wary of the empire rather than feel safe" stated Kaido
"Following that the execution of people that has ill will on the empire, would again literally worry the common people since most of those executed were all commoners or rats... . . Your majesty, even though you don't do anything, civil war is inevitable"
At that the Queen Empress herself became even more worried for the empire as she foresaw a future when two sides erupted inside the Empire this leaving everything I. Disarray
After sighing a bit she adruptly glanced back at Kaido who seemed focused on the chess pieces
"If what you said is true... . .then what's the use of our support?" She asks
"Your support means a little to me, but if this can Increase the asset in my hands then I will gladly take it up... . . What I wanted from you guys aren't for the incoming civil war inside the Empire but rather I want your guys to further enhance the hidden town's military strength" answered Kaido
"Hidden town? I've never heard such a place before" exclaimed by the Queen Empress Evelyn herself
"That because it's was only founded by a few months ago" stated Kaido
"I see... . . "
With a clink Queen Empress Evelyn drank a cup of coffee in her cup, before understanding what Kaido just said, after that she adruptly closes her book and putted it beside her
When she did that she slowly interlocked her fingers against each other and gazed at Kaido with a serious face
"So what's your reason?"
"My reason is not extravagant, I'm saying this a a help for the incoming war against something bigger like the demon army" said Kaido
"During war time many cities will be destroyed, people killed, and kingdoms falling, but I want the hidden town to atleast has enough strength to protect themselves" he added
"But we won't have anything that will benefit us from your request" complained by the Queen Empress
"Kaido-dono! I can't risk my men's life for something Insignificant, and even if I just help you in your military issue, the empire will soon trace everything back to me and that will even endanger my own men... . . My men has families inside the empire, do you think with a risk of their families being killed would my men willingly follow you?" She reasoned out

"The empire isn't dumb as you think, when back into a corner they can pretty much show their 100 percent potential In which im pretty sure would surprise you" she added
After staying silent for a while Kaido said
"Is that so? Then the empire seemed to be more formidable than I thought"
With that notion even the Queen Empress herself couldn't help but twitch her mouth from hearing such blatant underestimation
"You seemed to be misunderstanding something your majesty" exclaimed Kaido

"What I just said wasn't a request but an order... . . I want everything to atleast go my way... . . Well I do believe that not everything I want will always be fulfilled but atleast I tried rather than simply accepting the undesired result" added Kaido
At that Queen Empress Evelyn herself creased her brows as she carefully stroked them to ease her stress as she carefully observed Kaido
She didn't expect however that Kaido would blatantly say that he was ordering them, such notion would have killed him if they were back in the empire
"Your quite bold for ordering a royalty just like that" she said
"Royalty? What's the difference? Why would I be afraid? Royalty, noble, aristocrat, merchants, commoners, rats no matter how much you distinguished yourself, everyone will always be the same... . . As long as you die it won't matter if you guys have rank, at such there's almost no difference between a royalty from a commoner" said Kaido
"What?"
"What only differs you from commoners is your wealth, land, and property... . . Putting that aside you guy are all the same"
"So your ranking me as something like a commoner?" Asks Queen Empress Evelyn herself
"Pretty much" replied Kaido blatantly
At that the whole room suddenly turned quiet for a moment from that notion, but Kaido knew that he already have one up the Queen Empress, since he can see some changes on her facial expressions since he kept stating facts at her
"What if we refuse your offer? What would you do to me and us?" She asked
"Nothing... . . Yet" replied Kaido
"But I can't guarantee my words in the future since people's temperament can change, what I'm doing right now is the maximum tolerance I can give infront of you... . . But you should know that I won't let loose ends be just as they are, if you refuse me now, then don't blame me if I did something in the future" threatened kaido
"Future? Are you saying that you will do something in the future?" Asks Queen Empress Evelyn herself
"Yep! Since the empire made it into my bucket list, then of course I'm going to do something" said Kaido
"But you forgot something... . . The hero is there!!! Even if I joined your side, the hero wouldn't let it be" she pointed out
"The hero?... . . You can leave that problem to me" said Kaido
After taking everything into account she herself couldn't help but notice that since the talk happened, she always been lead by the nose
Even if she denied it, she couldn't help but realise that Kaido was indeed smart for his own good
"You... . . Your really brave for threatening me"
The moment she heard that a clanking footsteps suddenly intruded inside her tent as General Roland unsheathed his sword and directly slashed down towards kaido
Surprisingly without taking a glance at the General, a silhouette suddenly appeared in between them coming out from his shadow and struck the incoming sword aside with only a dagger
As two weapon collide both General Roland and Melfina entered a standoff as both of them stood on either sides of their master
"You... . . You dare threaten her majesty!!! I knew it!... . . Your dangerous! Too dangerous to live and be left behind! Please allow me to demonstrate my strength for you" bellowed General Roland
"Over my dead body! As long as I'm here I won't let you touch Kaido-sama!" Retorted Melfina
As two sides was about to clash again, both leaders immediately stopped them
"Stand down General!!!"
"Melfina! Down!"
Hearing that General Roland clicked his tongue before sheathing back his sword, as for Melfina she slowly retracted her daggers back to their sheath before standing beside Kaido properly
"Looks like you got a reliable guard, I didn't expect her to have potential in shadow magic! I'm quite impressed" praised Queen Empress Evelyn towards Kaido's personal loyal Elf
"Your General too... . . I didn't expect him to be there, he controlled his breathing so properly that I didn't notice him" praised Kaido towards the Queen's General
After thinking everything through Queen Empress Evelyn herself finally decided
"Fine! I'll accept your terms"
"Your majesty!!!" Exclaimed General Roland
But quickly Queen Empress Evelyn raised her hand to stop the General
"I'll help you in improving your military strength by personally going to your hidden town, but let me tell you this... . . When a battle broke out between your town and my empire, don't expect us to help since you know clearly the burden of killing the people you know"
"I can accept that much" exclaimed Kaido
"Then we have ourselves a deal" she said while smiling at him
"I expected that" shrugged Kaido
As Kaido stood up the Queen Empress herself suddenly asked him a question that surprised Kaido himself
"Kaido-dono! With your profound knowledge and domeanering aura... . . I can also feel some malicious aura in you that I can only feel on people that fallen into darkness... . . Just who are you?" She asked
After thinking it through Kaido answered
"I'm just a guy who expected much from society but only to get betrayed"
With those words she couldn't even comprehend what he meant at all before Kaido suddenly broke her train of thought
"Oh yeah! The chess problem that you voluntarily arranged for me... . . I solved it!!!, My answer is obvious... . . Even if you place only pawn on my side, I would just do whatever I can to help them get stronger to benefit myself and eventually capturing the other side" said Kaido as he smiled before he left
Wondering what he meant, Queen Empress Evelyn quickly glanced at the chess board, only to be stunned by sudden change in the situation
Not only did he led a royalty by the nose tonight, he also turned the table on the chess board itself
Apparently he killed all of the elites on the white side by efficiently maneuvering his pieces until he gets what he wants, in the end he eliminated all the rooks, knights, and the bishop, with the queen pinned down on one side of the board and the king surrounded by three Queen's on different location
What surprised her was that he successfully converted five pawns into Queen's by sacrificing three pawns in the process thus leaving the board into a full blown with no flaw victory
Only one word can describe the current situation on the board as the Queen Empress herself muttered it with a exhilarating expression
"Checkmate! An overwhelming checkmate!!!"

Next day as the sun rises Rebecca suddenly approached Luke as she requested one thing
"Luke! Please cross swords against me again!"
