The Yangs

On cue, Yang Mu walked inside from the living room connected to the backyard, he walked in barefooted with his sleeves rolled up and his hair a little disheveled.

"Sorry, the dogs kept pouncing on me while I changed their water."

He saw her standing together with his brother and deduced that they had already introduced themselves.

Yang Mingha shot his brother a look. He clasped his hands and said, "Since we're all here, should we eat?"

"Okay."

Yang Mu walked in front of Jiang Shen to the dining room where the Yang couple was already seated, talking to each other in hushed whispers.

"Mom. Dad."

The couple had already heard the commotion when Yang Mingha had led the young girl inside the house with excitement.

When they snuck a peek at the living room, they hadn't failed to notice the pretty young girl standing ramrod straight, a little lost inside the big house.

In an unfamiliar environment, she resisted the urge to let her eyes wander and politely looked at nothing but the host.

Her eyes were clear, as if she did not care for the riches that filled the house. And her aura was calm and bright, greatly appreciated by Madam Yang.

It was a good thing they returned to their seats before their two sons noticed that they have been eavesdropping.

"Come, let's eat."

Mister Yang pretended not to notice the girl by not looking up and instead began to get his own portions of each dishes. Madam Yang did the same, instead she also made sure to include her two sons portions.

Yang Mu lightly coughed, prompting the couple to look up with great surprise.

"Oh my! Who is this?"

"This is Jiang Shen, my friend."

The word 'friend' had been heavily emphasized, not at all giving the chance for them to insinuate.

"She's the girl i've been pestering Xiao Mu to meet!"

Yang Mingha did not care for his brother's intense glare, nor the words he had said. He freely said what he wanted to say as he sat down.

"Nice to meet you. Mrs. Yang. Mr. Yang."

Yang Mu sighed and pulled out a chair for her to sit down while he sat next to her.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. And please, call me Aunt!"

"A polite girl. You can also call me Uncle."

They both nodded towards Jiang Shen, who was seated straight with not a fault in her posture, as she eyed the dishes on the plate with a hint of excitement.

This made Madam Yang smile. It was a pity she did not give birth to a daughter, then maybe she would've spoiled her like her sons.

"You don't have to force yourself if you don't want to."

Yang Mu's parents had the tendency to go overboard. All the girlfriends he had in the past had never been comfortable with his parent's constant pestering, which eventually led to fallout with either him or his parents.

After moving back to China, he hadn't introduced anyone else except Jiang Shen. Even though he heavily emphasized her status as a friend, of course the Yang couple would pester until the person herself confirmed it.

"No, it's okay." Jiang Shen didn't mind at all. "Thank you for inviting me to lunch, Aunt and Uncle."

The words flowed naturally from her mouth, igniting a sense of comfort for the couple. She seemed a little different from the girls their son had introduced, but sadly they couldn't pinpoint exactly what.

In any case, there was plenty of time to get to know her. No rush.

"Yes! Here, have some Sichuan Pork, it's very delicious! Oh wait, are you fine with eating spicy food, Xiao Shen?"

"Don't forget the stir fry. Kids your age shouldn't forget to have a balanced diet."

The brothers were shocked at the scene, as their parents usually practiced restraint on the first meeting. But they guessed they couldn't hold back from Jiang Shen's warm personality.

Yang Mingha threw his brother an approved look, to which the younger brother looked a little helpless. Nevertheless, Yang Mu was also happy that she was well received by his parents. It would also serve as a good advantage in pursuing her.

If she even agreed in the first place.

Jiang Shen didn't feel uncomfortable. It was the first time she was treated so warmly, so unlike her family. Although they kept up pretenses of being kind and familial, she still couldn't feel the same warmth and belonging she had when her mother hadn't left the estate.

Now that Yang Mu's parents had treated her with the same sincerity and warmth she had felt from her mother, her heart practically melted from the gesture.

When the meal ended and everyone had eaten their share of the extravagant dishes, Jiang Shen excused herself to go to the bathroom.

The house was big but it was easy to navigate. The bathroom was near the garage, where the dogs had been kept to prevent them from destroying the garden.

She was careful not to touch anything she couldn't afford to pay, as she occupied herself trying to digest the numerous dishes Yang Mu's parents practically forced down her throat.

After returning to the living room, the whole Yang family was seated. They had smiles on their faces with bright looks. Now that Jiang Shen looked properly, she could see why Yang Mu's handsome face attracted attention.

With his parents looking like celebrities, the genes were bound to be superior.

"Xiao Shen, come here! We were just talking about you."

Madam Yang felt satisfaction the moment she laid eyes on the girl. Although she didn't know if she was right for her son, she would naturally know once they got to know each other.

Mister Yang was busy reading the news on his tablet, not looking up at all. But his eyes would occasionally glance at the others as he discreetly nodded to himself.

He had to thank his son for bringing home such a nice girl. It looked like all those lessons on treating a girl right was not wasted in vain.
