For a few moments nothing happened, Larry looked at the fan and the suited-up Kestrel next to it and laughed at himself for taking her seriously. With a smirk on his, he opened his mouth taking a deep breath. "Char..' Sniff' what is this sme... ugh!" Suddenly a smell gushed into his nose and mouth. Almost immediately he started to choke, this was the first time in his life that he had smelt something like this and not only could he smell it he could taste it too. It was like someone took a butter knife and spread a layer of sewer slug slime across his tongue. Cramming his body into his shell and sealing it shut, he almost looked like a giant green dumpling. Even still one could hear him choking.
Just looking at him you could imagine how the horde of monsters were feeling at the moment, especially those with enhanced senses of smell specialized in tracking, almost all of them were already frothing at the mouth. In less then a minute the majority of the monster's front line was in chaos. At least a third of then had already fainted, some of them had already turned and run back towards their homes. This scene played out in front of the humans, although they weren't sure what had happened a loud cheer tore through the air and some of them started to charge at the monsters ready to reap a profit. To them, this was twice the reward with half the effort.
With faces of greed, they sprinted at their fastest speeds with weapons raised high but before the could throw their first blow a slight wind blew into their faces. One whiff was all it took to completely change the expressions on their faces. One guy at the forefront was running the fastest, he had a skill that focused on speed when he got a whiff his face contorted and he tripped over himself. Falling he knocked the air out of his lungs, he rolled and tumbled to a stop. Getting up he gasped for air only to get a lung full of a stench that would haunt him for life. The slower people seeing how the ones in front were acting came to a halt. Glancing at them then to the monsters that were in no condition to put up a fight they became hesitant. Some of them remembered when Kestrel said sorry to them and wanted to retreat but before they could a gust of wind blew across them and into the humans behind them, moments later they too fell into chaos.
Seeing both human and monster suffering m, David couldn't stop his curiosity and lifted the gas mask slightly. Not even half a second later he jammed it back onto his face, pale he couldn't help looking over at Kestrel in fear. Wondering since when did she become worse than her mother. The culprit was watching the scene before her with rapt attention scribbling away with her pen into her notebook. David wanted to question about what and how she made such a thing and scold her for using it where it induced friendly fire.
Before he could even speak his thoughts a large shadow appeared in front of the wall. David could see a largemouth suddenly appeared in front of them. He didn't even waste a second as he grabbed Kestrel trying to jump out of the area of coverage using his body to guard her and swung his arm behind him to attack using all the energy in his body to power his fist.
Boom!

A few minutes after Kestrel left the laboratory.
The rabbit that was grooming its ears was standing still. Its ears would twitch every few moments and it seemed to be concentrating. This rabbit was a common monster that could easily be found outside the town. They were weak enough for normal humans to hunt as long as they weren't care less. These rabbits had very large feet and were adept at running away. If forced a kick from them can easily blow a grown man away. They were given the name sky kicking rabbits since it was claimed that someone had once spotted one Jumping through the skies as if kicking the air. Although everything can grow stronger with time these rabbits were far too common and almost anyone with a bit of strength can catch one making them a common food stock.
While the rabbit was listening for any sounds a small shy voice came from the cage with the turtle in it. "Is is she gone?" A small head poked out of the shell slightly and peaked at the rabbit. After a few more minutes the rabbit finally nodded its head and spoke.
"Yeah, she's gone." After he said that a collective breath was released from the animals around him.
"Hmph! If I wasn't in this cage I would have loved to fight a good 300 rounds with her to show my dominance!" A yellow-colored monkey boasted. If not for the hand on its tail clenching and waving back and forth through the air it would look like any other monkey from earth.
"Yeah yeah Steve, you say this every time she leaves the room but I could have sworn just yesterday you were turning tricks for her so you wouldn't have to participate in her experiments." A strange blue colored peacock-like bird said so while ruffling his feathers.
"You bird brain! It's not like you were any better! I saw you shaking your tail feathers showing that disgusting 'Shy' face, and you know damn well we dodged a bullet. Look at bill! He's been like that ever since. I can't even tell if he's alive right now!" Steve shout his injustice while pointing at the cage in a corner. Inside of that cage was a black fox, its coat of fur seemed to absorb all light in its surroundings, it looked like it was carved from obsidian. If not for the fact that its eyes were practically bulging from its skull and it was twitching here and there it would have looked like a work of art.
Looking at bill for a moment, the bluebird indeed felt like he dodged a bullet but that didn't mean he would let the monkey one-up him. Just as he was gonna retort.
"Enough!" A deep voice erupted. Hearing this voice he shut up instantly. All the other monsters also went silent. Even though they were all in cages they still feared the voice if that creature. Most of the cages in this went all that big. All of them were only about 2 feet tall and almost 5 feet wide, but this cage was 4 feet tall and 17 feet wide. Inside of this cage was a larger white tiger with rust-red stripes. It had its head rested on its front paws and its tail was slowly swaying. All of the monsters knew that he was the oldest one in this lab. Rumor has it he was left here since Kestrels' mother died. All the monsters knew that most of them would be lucky to last more then 2 or 3 months once they were brought here and that was only 'if' they survived the experiments. They all knew that Kestrel didn't dare to try to experiment on him. So everyone here deeply respected him.
In another cage but much smaller then the tigers a pure white rabbit was nibbling on a stalk of grass didn't seem to fear about the tiger and opened his mouth. "Is it time Gus? Not everyone has the time to sit around and wait for you. It's been 2 years since I got here and I've long since been paying attention to you. We all know that you've been planning to escape." If not for the scar that covered its eye it would have looked just like that first rabbit. Still, none of the others dared to speak out. Even though the rabbit looked harmless they knew he was anything but.
Looking at the rabbit Gus scoffed."Well, look at you! Now you want in now huh? Just a few months ago you and that damn snake kept saying it was best to wait. We've long since lost the opportunity to escape. If we had left then we would have had at least a 40% chance of escaping. But now that little girl has reached the senior level! Using my plan now it would lead to an absolute failure!" Not wanting to waste another breath the tiger closed its eyes and resumed resting.
At the mention of a 'damn snake' some of the monsters looked towards another part of the room where a white snake with a red patch that looked like a cloud on its head. The snake just glanced at gus then sweep its gaze across the room before pausing for a moment on Luke's cage. A gleam pasted through its eyes before it lowered its head, seemingly uninterested in the conversation. The rabbit had been watching the snake from the corner of its eye, seeing the snake show interest in the new cage intrigued him but he only made a mental note and continued to speak. "I feel like this is a perfect time. I'm sure that that siren meant something important happened. You saw the way she was flustered. Even if you trigger the alarm by the time she comes back we would be long gone."
The tiger thought for a moment before speaking. "Alright, but if she returns then we're all screwed. Let's wait for a bit longer before making a move." With that, he closed his eyes again. The rabbit seeing that he finished a stalk grabbed another one and continued to chew.
At this all of the monsters were silent but the excitement radiating from them could be felt for almost all the monsters. The day has finally arrived and they could leave this good forsaken lab and return to their homes.
'BOOM! With this noise, all 3 monsters looked up and concentrated for a short moment. "Alright! Whatever that is will keep her busy!" Standing up the first thing that attracted all of the monster's attention was a hole that the tiger had been laying on. Wasting no time he crawled into the hole. After a few sounds of shuffling the heard a loud 'Bang!' Watching in shock as they saw the cage gus was in collapse downward followed by it being pushed back up and falling to its side.
Gus jumped fro. the newly formed hole covered in dust. All of the monsters looked at him in shock. Even the snake lifted it's head eyes gleaming with anticipation. Gus lifted his head in a proud manner but underneath it was a bit of sorrow. His father was the one who dug this hole and planned this escape. Sadly he died 3 years ago because of another monster how had caused an experiment to fail so that he could escape. He had sacrificed 30 other monsters so he could escape. Gus always wanted to find that mutt and tear out his throat with his bare teeth. Shaking way his thoughts he dashed to the corner. There was nothing special about this corner but he remembered his dad saying that for whatever reason a release button was over there. When he asked why was that his father simply replied 'Some humans need a button for everything just in case.'
Really it was just a glass panel covered in paint to hide it. Gus's father had said that not even Kestrel should know it was there and only the mother and father knew about it. Ignoring his confusion he smacked the glass easily shattering it to find a big red button with a sign that says 'DO NOT TOUCH!' Naturally, he paid it no mind and pressed the button. Seconds later an alarm blazed to life along with the sounds of a bunch of cages opening. All of the monsters roared in happiness before stampeding their way to the lab door. Sending a wary glance to both the snake and the rabbit, he to leap towards the door ready to face the only obstacles between him and freedom.
