the noise in silence

At sharp 4 I heard a knock on the door and cheerfully said, "hello!". the person seemed to wait for a minute before she realized I wasn't going to talk. she began talking about how her day was. I stayed silent through the whole thing. when she was done she said goodbye and that she will visit tomorrow too.

At first, I was annoyed but as the days went by and she talked and I stayed silent, I seemed to smile and wait sitting with my back on the door for her cheerful hello! everyday.

today it was 4 and yet no knock and no hello. 4:05 still no knock. 4:30 still no hello.

i got up from my usual place. and sat on my chair and continued what I was doing before. she had finally given up after no response for so long. I knew this was going to happen and yet here I am with unshed tears in my eyes.

that's when I heard a knock and a "hello!". I jumped from the chairs, tripping for a second before I stabilized myself and ran to the door. before I could react she began apologizing about how she had important work and was really late.

she talked about her day today too. when she was done and said goodbye for the first time in forever I said, "thank you". the unshed tears finally falling. I don't know if she heard but she was always there. the next day, the day after, and after that to say "hello!"

find yourself a friend who will always be there with you through thick and thin. a friend who doesn't expect anything from you except your friendship.
