Chapter 10 A Little Too Late To Back Out

*sound of horses stomping*

The journey back to the Capital was long, the needed time for them to reach the capital was 3 days and two nights in horse back but since she was injured their pace slowed down and the 3 days and two nights became 5 days and four nights.

It had only been an hour since the group started their journey back to the Capital, but Huan Mingyun almost found herself surrendering to the torture because of her injury that hurts like h*ll.

She was already on the verge of tears because of pain and wanted to take a rest before continuing the journey but they just took a rest some minutes ago so she could not request to take a rest again, she can only grit her teeth and injure the pain.

As she remembered the cause of her pain and the people that she left behind, Huan Mingyun does not know what to feel as she look at that certain direction. Should she be happy or sad? Her heart really felt heavy.

*scared birds flying away*

Hearing the flock of birds flying away in a certain direction, Huan Mingyun who saw this scene suddenly felt a sense of trepidation in her heart.

"Princess, is everything alright?" Xihuan Shui who was riding his horse closer to Huan Mingyun noticed that something was wrong with her and quickly asked her with a face full of worry.

"Uncle Shui, I'm fine. Its just that my wound hurt a little." Huan Mingyun smiled at the old man who got panicky when he noticed that she got uncomfortable.

"Does it hurt a lot?"

"A little." Huan Mingyun replied half truth not wanting the old man to worry.

"Princess, how this old man wronged you. Here, have some painkillers and the pain would go away quickly." Xihuan Shui happily handed her some painkillers.

The smile in Huan Mingyun's face drop when she saw the bunch of painkillers in the old man's pouch.

'Is it too late to beat this old man up?!'

After taking the painkiller, the pain that Huan Mingyun was enduring disappeared like smoke. She was so happy that she felt like throwing a party. Their speed also increased because they no longer need to stop and rest because of the pain she felt, the pace of their horse also increased that in three days they already reached the town near the Capital.

The group stayed in an inn in that town, her veiled guards and old man changed into plain clothes so they would not stand out in the crowd so much. Looking at the group in plain clothes, Huan Mingyun could see that even their facial features do not stand out, in short average looking.

Remembering the past days, when she first saw the veiled men she knew at first sight that they are not some simple group. Her old man who was the leader of the veiled man was also not a simple man just as he portrayed himself to be but why is he loyally serving the original if he is not an ordinary person?

"Princess, you seemed to have something to ask this old man." Xihuan Shui said as he put a cup of tea in front of her, his face still held a gentle smile.

Huan Mingyun stayed silent not saying anything, she brought the cup of tea on her mouth and took a sip before talking.

"Uncle Shui, just who are you?" Huan Mingyun said as she gently put the cup of tea on the table, her eyes unconsciously turned cold as she look at the old man.

*Bam!*

"Princess, your reaction speed is getting better and better." Xihuan Shui smiled amicably as he held a sharp knife in front of Huan Mingyun's face that she was holding by its tip.

Huan Mingyun felt that her back was drenched in sweat as she held the tip of the knife, she sighed in relief when the old man took back the knife.

"Uncle Shui, that's cheating." Huan Mingyun said knowing that the old man meant no harm, it was just a game to train the originals senses and instincts.

"All is fair in love and war." Xihuan Shui chuckled.

"Uncle Shui, can you tell me the truth already. Just who are you? A person as skilled as you could not be just a mere steward." Huan Mingyun insisted wanting to know the truth.

"Do you really want to know the truth?" Xihuan Shui's face suddenly turned serious as he look at Huan Mingyun. "This old man already told you before that knowing the truth would put you in more danger, as long as you don't know the truth you can live your life in peace. Sometimes knowing the truth requires heavy responsibility, princess."

Seeing how serious the old man looked like, Huan Mingyun suddenly hesitated if she should ask him. Living as a carefree princess without heavy responsibilities had already put her into many dangers, what more if she were to know the truth that the old man is speaking of. Will it put her into more danger than the one she is currently experiencing?

The old man sighed when he saw her turn silent, he was glad that he did not get his hopes high because he knew that a sheltered girl like her would not be able to take such heavy responsibilities if she were to know the truth. The truth of her identity.

The old man was about to leave when he was met with Huan Mingyun's burning eyes, it was filled with determination as she look at him. The old man was surprised to see such eyes on a young girl.

"Uncle Shui, I'm already in so many dangers just by being the princess alone. Adding another to the fray won't make such difference to my current situation, since you keep on saying "heavy responsibilities" I guess that this secret of yours is worth much. A secret identity of my parents perhaps?" Huan Mingyun smirked.

Huan Mingyun did not stay silent because she was scared but because she was thinking, thinking about millions of possibilities that the old man is trying to hide from her. Thinking more deeply about it, Huan Mingyun finally found her answer and that is her parents. It makes sense since she would not have such a big responsibility if not for her parents who had already died early.

"Princess, are you really sure about this? Once you know the truth, you can never go back to the life you had before." Xihuan Shui once again warned her of the dangers ahead.

"I'm more than sure about this, I can't be kept in the dark about my identity always. One way or another I will find out about it in the future and I sure wish that I won't find it out on my family's enemy." Huan Mingyun joked. "Uncle, don't worry. No matter what happens I won't regret it."

Knowing that he could no longer talk her out of this matter, Xihuan Shui could only sigh deeply as he told her about the secrets of her family.

Huan Mingyun listened silently to all the words that came out of the old man's mouth, the longer she listens the bigger her eyes gets and the deeper she is falling to the deep dark abyss of truth.

'Author, is it too late to back out now?!'
