Jinjing said her goodbyes to her best friend and her future in laws, over the phone. She boarded the flight with a heavy heart. The three-hour flight was full of regrets, longing and sadness.
'I can't wait to get back to my love.' The flight hadn't even landed in city S and Jinjing was already wishing to go back. The moment she reached, she called Liang to inform him and also asked him about his follow-up. Once again Liang spoke courteously, but she still could not stomach his coldness.
Tired, Jinjing reached her apartment at almost ten in the night. A quick shower and some instant noodles and she was ready to head to bed. Liang and Jinjing chatted a bit before she went off to sleep.
The next morning, dressed up all formally, Jinjing reported to work on time. Sam and Luwei were very excited to meet her. She had been away for a month already.
"hey! Jinnie…. My love, how are you? I missed you so much." Sam who was working in Luwei's cabin, shot up from her seat and literally ran towards Jinjing, before pulling her in for a tight hug. Luwei on the other hand, sat on his big boss chair, all imposing. He swiveled the chair, waiting for the girls to get over with their melodrama.
When Sam stepped away, Luwei walked up to Jinjing and hugged her warmly. "welcome back Jinnie." Before she could thank him. He said, "get ready to slog it out now, you have to make up for the entire month of absence."
Hearing his 'endearing' words, Jinjing simply withheld her thanks and gave him a fake smile.
"well I will definitely make up for the past month, but not before handing in my resignation." Jinjing dropped the bomb just like that. Without any warning, without giving any time to prepare for shelter. The two poor civilians stood their stunned. Their eyes wide like they will pop out any moment, their mouths agape.
Recovering from the aftermath, Luwei said, "so you chose love over friendship… haaa???"
"that's not fair…. You will leave us???" Sam protested.
Inhaling sharply, Jinjing said, "this was going to happen one day anyways. I couldn't stay here forever, right? I had to leave some day."
Her friends understood her stand and would support her in every way. But they also loved her a lot and would miss her dearly. Hugging her once more, Sam said sadly, "I will miss you Jinnie. In fact, I am already missing you."
Playfully hitting her on her back, Jinjing said, "I am here for another month, and we are going to spend a lot of time together, okay?"
With sparkle in her eyes, Sam exclaimed, "really!!!"
"yes! I have to handover everything before I leave, so spending time with you is inevitable." Jinjing said teasingly. Sam caught on the sarcasm. She narrowed her eyes at Jinjing and glared at her. A moment later the girls burst out in a loud laughter, causing Luwei to stick his fingers in his ears. 'these girls will rupture my ear drum someday.' He shook his head and resumed his work.
