A Miracle

It was all well and happy for everyone until... a miracle happened.

After an hour had passed, before the news had spread to the media, her heart beat once again.

The news spread among the relatives and it shocked them of how persistent this woman was. Even the doctor and the nurses were confused. After all, they had tried to revive her heart with the help of defibrillator. But after countless attempts, it was still useless so they had given up.

However, an hour had passed and she came back alive just like that? Without any help? What sort of luck did this crazy woman have?

Lu Tianfeng raised an eyebrow when his subordinate reported the news to him. He chuckled.

"Indeed," he spoke, "They said a cockroach is hard to kill."

It was only through the phone but the bodyguard had felt a shiver down his spine. The deathly tone and the impatience of his boss could be clearly heard from the other side of the phone. This woman had indeed gotten under his boss' skin.

"You know what to do. I give you 12 hours."

Then the call had abruptly ended. The subordinate stared at the dark screen in resignation. Well at least he got 12 hours. Thus, he waited in her room.

He had watched the woman lying in the bed with a cold gaze for a couple of hours until suddenly he noticed a movement from her. And then her eyes opened.

After he had called for the doctor, they went to check her condition. All the subordinate wanted was to finish this silly mission as soon as possible so he hurried them. When they said she was stable enough to move, without much explanation, he threw the divorce paper in front of her and handed her a pen.

"Miss Huang, please don't be stubborn and sign the paper," he ordered coldly.

For this woman, he held no pity. After all, she had made a lot of trouble for his boss and brought shame to both families as well.

However, to his dismay, Huang Lifei only stared blankly at the paper. He urged her one more time to sign the paper but still no movement.

He became irritated instantly and yanked her wrist forcing her to take the pen. But she didn't grab it and it slipped away. Her hand just hung weakly within the subordinate tight grip.

He was about to lose his patience and used force on her when he saw them. Her pair of dark eyes. There wasn't a tiniest ripple of emotion in them. They were empty and lifeless.

Her expression was simply blank like a piece of empty sheet. At that moment, she looked like nothing but a motionless doll.

The room went into a complete silence at that sight. The doctor and the nurse had seen her expression too. They were surprised by her blank gaze as if every piece of her soul had gone. It was different from the daring woman they had seen on the news.

The woman in front of them right now looked nothing like the Huang Lifei they knew. The stillness of the air surrounding her was stifling to the point of suffocation. The way her gaze held on them, if anything the only trace of emotion they could feel from her was a deep heart-wrenching melancholy.

In their mind at that time, they had thought the young mistress must've been deeply in love with Lu Tianfeng. Thus, when she received the harsh rejection, she had been broken with her entire being sunk in sadness.

True to their mind, tears began to escape from her soulless pair of eyes. But her expression remained the same, hollow. Not even a little frown could be seen. As the tears streamed down her face, her eyes stared heedlessly into space.

They knew this woman had been insane with her actions for the past two years and many had despised her for it. However at this point, they didn't know why, they were somehow affected by her grief. They felt their heart aching for this frail woman, that included the subordinate.

He was even surprised at himself for feeling pity for this woman. He couldn't bare to force her but he had no choice. No matter what, he had to make her sign this paper.

However, he tried to be gentle with her this time. After all, the woman had indeed loved his master too deeply. They said when you love someone, you become blind. Now he witnessed it firsthand.

He sighed helplessly as he tried to reason with her, "Miss Huang, just sign it. There's no point in continuing this marriage. You will only torture yourself. End this."

He gave her the pen. "Once it's over, you will then have a chance in happiness again."

Still, there was no sign of movement from her. She kept staring blankly into space.

The subordinate knitted his eyebrows. As he was about to open his mouth again, the woman looked at him. Although her expression was still the same, he could detect the confusion in her eyes along with a tinge of innocence.

Suddenly, there was an awkwardness in the air. He felt as if he was forcing someone innocent to admit her sin. He cleared his throat before asking her to sign it again.

When he finally saw her hand moving, he was screaming joyfully in his heart, until he watched her pick up the phone from the side of the bed and dialed a number.

He was utterly speechless.

After that, he heard her asking in a restrained voice, "Can I speak with Lian Hua?"

He could feel the hidden turmoil in that single question.

What followed after that was silence. Pure silence as her face remained frozen. It went on for almost twenty minutes before the phone slid down from her grip.

And a loud cry of madness escaped from her lips.

"Arghh!!!!!"

The woman buried her face into her palms and her cry echoed loudly inside the room.

Her sorrowful scream strike every single heart in that room, even the people who had passed by her door stopped at their tracks.

It was a painful cry. A cry that held nothing but despair. The desolation that rang from her voice brought about grief that had dyed the entire room in gloominess.

Her tears fell uncontrollably and her whole body was shaking. The beeping sound from the machine became louder and louder as the number on the screen rose quickly.

The doctor went into panic mode as he saw how unstable her condition had suddenly become.

He shoved the man aside as he tried to calm the woman. But she couldn't stop. Nothing went through her.

At this moment, all she could hear was, "He had passed away three days ago."

Again and again, the sentence replayed in her head like a deathly lullaby, sending her to the border of insanity.

It was then she began to run. She had rushed into the rain even though her body had only escaped death a couple of hours ago. She had braved through the cold even though it was autumn and the temperature was below the freezing point.

She was shivering from head to toe but still she ran because she had to confirm it with her own eyes.

....because she still believed.

....because she still remembered clear as the day, his voice.

Saying how much he loved her and that he would never leave her.
