Issy's Burn

We were at the hospital all night and most of the next day before Issy came to and was able to talk. I told her what I said to the doctors about what happened and for her to not say anything about the book. She nodded that she understood and I went to tell them that she was awake.

All the doctors that had taken care of her rushed in as soon as they could to check her vitals and how she was feeling. All of them kept saying she was lucky they didn't have to take her hand off. She always just smiled and nodded that she understood. They asked me why she wouldn't speak and I told them that I was wondering the same thjng.

I looked at the little book that was sitting by the chair I've been in since it burned my best friend and wondered how it did that. 'What is your secret little book?' I would think to it and then would feel like I should read it. I just couldn't read it until my friend was out of the hospital. It wouldn't feel right to read the book that burned her while in here wanting her to get out.

"Issy," I say to her. All she does is look at me. "Please say something."

She opens her mouth to talk and all that comes out is a small groan like her vocal cords are complaining. She shakes her head to say she cannot speak. I sigh and tell her to hold on.

"Sir?" I say to the main doctor that sees Issy. "Can you do some tests on Issy's vocal cords? She tried to speak and all that she could make were groaning noises like her vocal cords were protesting."

"I'll look into running a few tests on her vocal cords and throat," He says smiling at me and pulling out Issy's papers writing, DO TESTS ON VOCAL CORDS, at the top of the paper.

I walk back into Issy's room and tell her that they are going to find out why she couldn't speak and she looks me in the eye and I realize that her eyes were changing color. Her eyes were always deep brown, why are they turning sapphire blue? I ask myself this until she closes her eyes and goes back to sleep.

I decided to begin reading the book while she was sleeping so that she doesn't freak out from paranoia of it happening again.

You, Tallia Burnham, are the last of your family to be able to break the curse. As you dream this book will catch fire and let you see into the ancient society it came from. WARNING: anyone burnt by this book's flame will begin to change into the dragon their soul matches.

'Great my best friend is going to become a dragon,' I think.

There is a way to keep them from changing once they have been burnt. This will be told later in this book because we need to stick with you for now, Tallia.

Your family has been cursed for roughly 4 centuries and you can reverse it if you heal the small Dragon Prince, he has been sick for the majority of his life and if he is not healed by your hand he will die. His name is Canale. He looks forward to meeting you. Once he is healed he will be able to take on his alternative form, which is a human form. You will be involved with the preparation of all celebrations of his recovery and if you don't then you shall not be released from the curse.

I'm sure you're eager to heal your friend Issy and yes there is a way. You will need three small flowers that are close to blooming and a small amount of Issy's blood to put on each. After 3 hours you will notice small human - like figures floating from the flowers to your friend and begin to heal her bloodstream.

"Thank you mysterious book," I say before whispering to Issy that I would be back soon. I walk out of the hospital and go searching for three small almost blooming flowers to take with me back to Issy. 'Please let this work,' I think as I spot three small flowers that fit the description in the book. I do not pick them I take the empty bottle from my Powerade and my pocket knife out of my bag. I cut the top off of the bottle with my knife and then dig up the flowers along with the dirt and such and make myself a small flowerpot out of the Powerade bottle.

I walk back to the hospital with my flowers and go back to Issy's room. "I hope this works," I mutter as I take a small bit of blood from a cut they didn't wrap up and put a small bit on the top of each flower. Please, please, please let this work, I think while slowly drifting off into sleep.

I wake up a hour later surprised the book wasn't on fire and then I look at the flowers and see that they had turned the red shade of Issy's blood. And as I am looking at the flowers Issy wakes up and looks at them too. It must've been the dragon in her that then swatted the flowers to the floor and glared at me. The flowers were dead. They wouldn't work anymore. I looked into her now sapphire eyes and almost began to cry.

"Please, Issy. I want to help you," I look at her and then look down as I get up and clean the mess she made. I walk out of the room with my Powerade flowerpot and everything else I had brought to the hospital with me. I walk out of the hospital and head to my motorcycle that I had my neighbor bring by with his truck. I put all of my stuff in the bags on either side of the back of it and make sure that it's clasped tightly shut. I mount it and start it up.

On my way home I see a figure of a man beside the road, so I pull over to make sure he's okay. When I get close to him he vanishes and right where he was standing are three small flowers that fit the description in the book. 'Thank you,' I think to the figure and I walk back to my motorcycle to get my Powerade flowerpot out. I dig up these flowers and hold them between my legs as I quickly drive back to the hospital to try this again. 'Please let it work this time around,' I think on my way there.
