Chapter Forty Five - Turmoil (Part 3)

Nereem was nearly at the end of her shift. She was working on the 28th floor in a medical ward with a small team of healers and physicians. They were meant to only be dealing with merchant or residents of the Dragon Keep but found that the majority of patients were still Dragon Troopers who were told that they wouldn't get medical attention unless it was life-threatening.

Just as she was away to pack up and leave three people burst through the doors but she only recognised one of them, Commander Joseph. Along with him, there was a young woman and a tall blonde man.

Nereem let out a scream, the commander was bleeding from his mouth, heavily. Both his eyes had swollen and he had two purple marks on his wrists, the tunic that he was in had been covered with blood.

The girl with him had been blindfolded but in the same shape as the Commander, her tunic had even more blood. Tears had obviously been shed and made her face soaked. Sobbing and letting out moans.

The man dragging her along had pushed the Commander in first and dragged Fiona in behind them, her hands were still tied and she was being pulled along like she was nothing but an animal following them.

The rest of the ward turned towards Nereem to see what the issue was only to see what she saw. There was a lot more screams come out from the ward before the blonde man smashed a hole in the wall with a clenched fist, keeping his face straight. "Listen up. These two traitors have just been interrogated and I need you to heal them up to continue my work, now."

Upstairs in Nereem and Sara's room Noah had started to meditate as Sara went out to go and see why Nereem had still not come back from her shift which had ended half an hour ago.

As Noah gathered the magic particles in the air to circulate them around his body he felt something was strange with them, a small vibration going through them and calming down once they reached his body and started circulating.

He was deep in concentration while he practised the mediation but he felt the ring against his chest start to heat up as it had earlier when he was flying with Uni and Fiona to the Dragon Keep but it wasn't trying to pull him anywhere just trying to get closer to him.

It heated up to the point he could feel it burn his skin but chose to do nothing. He felt like he was underwater and someone was screaming his name at him but he couldn't make out what they were saying or who's voice it was. Just his name, over and over.

No---h ---oah!

The more the ring burned into his chest the more he could make it out but it had started to smoke against his tunic and his skin, but he tried to bear with it to hear what the voice was shouting at him.

Just as he felt like he could nearly make out what they were shouting the door burst open and Sara came rushing into the room. She was bent over trying to catch her breath and clutching her chest. Tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Noah, you need to leave. Go the closest landing bay and leave. I went to go find your mother and found most of the ward she was.. was working in, in, in massacred." Bursting into bigger tears and crying out.

Rushing over to her, he put his arm over her and gave her a hug close to him. Remembering that is what his mother would do when he was upset and couldn't tell her what had happened. He tried to help clean her up and ask her what she meant.

"There... There were so many bodies. Blood. So much Blood. I couldn't. He saw me. I need to leave too!" She pushed off his arm and ran to her wardrobe pulling out a bad and throwing her clothes into it.

"Sara, calm down. Which floor is the ward on?" Pulling her arm and trying to get her to focus.

"You can't go. You're too young. You won't be able to do anything! Come with me, I have a friend on one of the higher floors who will fly us back to the capital! He asked me to leave months ago!" Sara grabbed hold of his waist, her eyes had gone puffy from crying.

"It's fine Sara. I've been trained to be a... knight." Still hiding that he had bonded with a dragon and should technically be trained into one.

Sara stopped crying and stared into Noah's eyes. "Fine. Floor 28, it's not too far but you'll have to be careful. All the healers are panicking and trying to find Mistress Renn, they should be rushing the upper floors but the floors between us and the 28th are full of Troopers fighting."

He didn't wait to hear anything else, grabbing and throwing the door open. A crack came from the door as it fell off of its hinges. Looking at the hall there was only panicked healers running around, some with bags, some with potions and some with knives.

He pushed through the crowd of them trying not to hurt anyone as he ran for the lobby door to run down to the healing ward. All that could be heard was shouting about what was happening, where was Mistress Renn, where was the commanders to put a stop to the fighting?!

Once he got to the lobbies end he pushed the door open, knocking down two Dragon Troopers fighting. They both had the same uniform on the only difference between the two was the leather forearm protector they were wearing.

They had leather uniforms that were engraved with runes but the one losing the battle had theirs cut through which seemed to stop the protection it gave. Swords were clashing and magic aura was surrounding each of their bodies.

With each hit of their sword, the one with cracked leather armour had started gasping louder, coughing blood out. Noah noticed that he had deep stab wound on his back from what looked like a small dagger of some sorts.
