Extra 19: Change the World (34)

"I'm sure you'll soon discover my motive in doing this, though you'll have to figure it out on your own" - Kurama said as he stopped looking at the girl, after all, he had nothing to gain by explaining things when the racist mentality of the Yokai was second nature to them.

Ayame was silent for a few seconds before looking at her grandfather, who was nodding - "Grandfather?"

"Don't say anything, Ayame, we'll talk later" - the old wolf said before continuing to chat with Kurama.

Ayame was surprised to see her grandfather talking so warmly, something he hadn't even done with other clan members unless necessary.

"Oh, right, I'm being a bad host," Kurama said as he snapped his fingers and made a variety of dishes appear on a table.

The wolves looked at each other in surprise before feeling drool run down their cheeks. It was their first time experiencing the hypnotic aroma of gastronomy, and they had to admit they were just waiting waiting for the great sage's orders, so they could begin, even Ayame was experiencing an internal struggle to devour the meals Kurama had prepared for them.

"You can eat whenever you want, I can get more food, so there is no problem with you enjoying the feast" - said Kurama calmly.

The wolves didn't hesitate, they quickly started devouring the food with tears in their eyes, after all, this was the first time they tasted something so delicious and well-prepared.

"Delicious ~!" - Ayame exclaimed as she looked with surprise at her host - "Can I really have more?"

"Sure" - nodded Kurama calmly as he snapped his fingers and created new dishes.

Ayame's eyes sparkled with excitement as she took another plate and devoured it gladly.

The old sage of the wolf clan looked at his granddaughter before thinking at high speed. He was sure that Kurama had created these saucers with his power, after all, he could feel a strange energy before they appeared, and although at first he thought it was an illusion, after devouring the second plate he understood that they were real because a small fraction of the energy remained inside and quickly disappeared.

Kurama continued talking to the sage, and ignoring the stares of Ayame and the other members of the wolf clan because he was more interested in the wisdom of the old Yokai.

Time passed quickly, and the wolf clan members were returning to their home after tasting every last bit of Kurama's dish.

"I feel like my stomach is going to burst after eating so much" - said a man with tanned skin and pointed ears who had his body covered in fur - "I didn't think I would enjoy something as delicious as that meal, although now I feel like I won't be able to go back to eating the garbage we hunted."

"You have a point, I didn't think that our delicacies, would be nothing but garbage to other people" - Ayame said with a frown.

"If you want, you can go back and ask for more, I'm sure Kurama-dono won't refuse to feed you" - replied the old sage as he looked at his granddaughter.

The members of the wolf clan looked at each other as they quickly understood what was going on. It was obvious that the old sage had gained a huge interest in his new neighbor and so had the girl, although she was not yet conscious.

"I-I can't do it!" - Ayame exclaimed with a red face - "Besides, it would be dishonorable for a girl like me, to be with an unknown man when I have a fiancé!"

The sage of the wolf clan didn't respond to this, he just nodded calmly because he knew there was no way to change his granddaughter's mind, nor could he change her feelings so abruptly, after all, she had been dreaming about Koga for years even though he had ignored her all this time.

The members of the wolf clan, frowned because honestly they didn't like the idea of submitting to Koga when the two clans were united through marriage. Yes, the leader of the other clan was strong, but the northern wolf clan had been led by the old sage's family for generations, and now this was Ayame's turn.

"Ok, I think it's time for us to get ready, we still have to hunt the Birds of Paradise before we regain full control of our mountain" - said the old sage seeing the annoyance on the face of his subordinates - "And I think we could ask our new neighbor for help."

"I don't think he will help us so easily, grandfather" - replied Ayame with a frown - "Besides, we don't have anything to give him in return for his help."

The wolves frowned because this was true, they had nothing compared to Kurama. They lived in caves while Kurama lived in a well constructed home, they ate what they hunted while Kurama ate those wonderful dishes.

"You have a point, though I'm pretty sure he'll help us without much trouble" - replied the old wolf as he looked in the direction of his new neighbor's home.

"Why don't I go ask for Koga's help?" - Ayame asked as her eyes glittered slightly - "He said I could go ask him for help."

"Granddaughter, I don't want to deceive you, so I'll be honest, if he really could help us, Koga would have come a long time ago, and it's the same with the promise he made to you" - said the old wolf while shaking his head - "I know your feelings for Koga are strong, but they're not reciprocated."

"Grandfather..." - Ayame said with a frown.

"I know you'll hate me for saying this, but you know it's true" - the old wolf said as he shook his head - "If he really intended to marry you, he would have come to see you all these years at least once."

Ayame frowned before refusing to listen anymore, she just told her grandfather that she would go ask Koga for help and would be back in a little while.

"Was that a good idea, old man?" - A clan member asked as he looked at the old sage.

"No, but it's something she has to understand" - replied the old wolf as he shook his head - "I'll be honest, I was happy with the idea of Koga uniting the two clans, though after hearing your complaints, I realized that's not what you want."

"Our clan has been under the command of your bloodline for ages, great sage, we don't want to be controlled by another leader now" - replied a clan member seriously - "Koga may have a lot of potential and be a good leader, but he doesn't need to be for us as well."

"True, besides, our laws force us to only follow the orders of someone of our race, that's why you want to unite Ayame-sama with Kurama-dono, right?" - Another wolf asked seriously.

"That idea crossed my mind, although I won't force my granddaughter to follow my wishes, she will be the one to decide her own destiny, as for you, I won't stop you if you want to leave the clan" - replied the old wolf while looking up to the sky and frowning because he could see how the clouds started to block the sky - "I think we'd better go back quickly, the birds of paradise are about to attack"

"Ok!" - The wolves exclaimed as they followed their elderly leader.

* * * * *

"I don't understand why my grandfather said that" - muttered Ayame with a frown as she ran through the forest heading towards the home of Koga, the leader of another wolf clan.

The girl continued to run as she heard the sound of the screaming of the birds of paradise - "Shit, they're attacking again!"

Ayame bit her lip as she watched the shadows of the birds of paradise begin to descend from the clouds along with the mist.

"I'd better hurry or when I get back, there'll be nothing left to save" - Ayame muttered as she bit her lip, though her expression changed when she saw a silhouette shoot out from the forest - "Is that Kurama-dono?"

Ayame was silent as she stood silently watching what was about to happen.

"I guess I better see how it all plays out, so I can go to Koga's in peace" - Ayame muttered as she watched the sky begin to darken. Thunder began to surround the clouds as countless bodies fell one after another, showing the enormous power Kurama was unleashing.

Even from a distance, Ayame could feel the enormous power of the Kitsune Yokai, and what was worse, this did not seem to be Youki, but a power coming from nature itself.

"Are we wrong, and he's not a Yokai, but something else?" - Ayame murmured as she bit her lip because she could feel that intoxicating power travel the distance to where she was, though she quickly shook her head and decided to continue on her way, mostly because she understood that the danger had passed thanks to the help of this stranger, though there was something that had her a little confused - "Why did he help us?"
