1. This is a slow-paced story, because of this ROMANCE CAME LATE FOR THE LEADS. I'm saying this again, LATE. There's a huge reason behind this, if you will be patient you'd get there. 
2. Male Lead is weak AT FIRST. As this story is slow-paced, character development took a while. 
3. Female Lead will start to reawaken around Chapter 80 and ML will rise into his full potential shortly afterwards--once you start reading you'll know why it took this long. 
4. This book is not just about the romance part, it is also has a lot of mystery and later on, action in it.

Qing Chen listened at how absurd the story sounded. Well, it was not absurd per se. What was absurd was the decision-making.

Their mother let them suffer because she didn't want them to know about her past. Because then she would come off as a hypocrite for hating them becoming 'killing machines'.

Qing Chen was just fascinated about the ridiculousness but he sat through it. He listened as the story unfolded right in front of him.

His mother had been an orphan, plucked from the orphanage by a head of an assassin group, got trained to kill people, and then in the future, make it her job. That part of the story was fast.

Then her storytelling got a bit slower when his father entered the picture. Originally, she was sent to Chengshi to kill Qing Chen's great grandfather. But what she did is get a new identity and left her old life behind by blowing it up with three hand grenades.
