Something Had Definitely Happened

Hazel had a feeling that there was more going on with Will than simply feeling sick. She certainly hadn't expected to hear the front door slam so early in the day. The force shook the entire cabin for a moment.

He stood there breathing heavily with a blank look on his face when she peeked out from over the banister upstairs. She had never seen him like that before so she rushed down to check on him.

As she fussed over him, he acted like a sick person—as least as far as she knew; she didn't have much experience taking care of others—up until he desperately asked her not to go. It was almost exactly the same as the time she left his office after finding out he was Billy.

That was what clued her in that there was more to this than not feeling well. He wouldn't have sounded that way otherwise.

Will's heart beat erratically and he held her tightly. Something had definitely happened. But what?
