The Explosion

Hazel wasn't an idiot. She had been suspicious of Will's actions the moment he decided to work from home. At first she tried to rationalize that it was because he wanted to spend more time with her—it was the sort of thing he would do—but then a stranger showed up on their doorstep.

She hadn't thought anything of it until she didn't hear the door open again after more than half an hour. She went downstairs to look for him and he wasn't anywhere in the house.

Peeking out the front window, she saw that the stranger's car was still in the driveway. Whatever business he had here, it obviously wasn't asking for directions.

Hazel had been wondering if someone from Will's past would come back to haunt them for a while. It seemed like that had finally happened. She couldn't think of any reason he would go off into the woods with someone he didn't know at all.

Who was it? She hadn't seen them or heard their voice. It could be anyone. All she heard was the doorbell and Will.
