Chapter 4: Separation

"Hey guys... guys! I think can see something shiny inside there I wanna take a look" - Conor

"Really? Where in the middle of escaping a goddamn war and you wanna chase after a shiny thing!?!?" - Samuel

"Chill Samuel, he should go what if it's something useful?" - Isabelle

"Why do you get a day in this? Your new to the group!" - Samuel

"Shut up Samuel who said your in this group? Anyway I agree with Isabelle Conor is good at finding useful things " - Holly

"I hope you guys aren't planning to leave without my... I mean your mom's consultation first" - Ryan

"It's fine Hun besides they need get out a bit" - Emily very very surprisingly

Samuel just stared dumbfounded at them but it seems most of them was just eager to leave the caravan for a while so it was settled they'd all go and look for this 'shiny' thing while the new guardians of 5 had a little... free time. This is when things got complicated they approached the seemingly haunted warehouse with its bare grey walls and metal lined doors, the ceiling above seemed miles away plagued with early darkness. They crept in, eyes splicing their through their souls; wires crackling... wait what? "ELECTRICITY! everyone charge the batteries" spurted Conor as every rushed to the live wires to connect it to a power regulator they always carried in the trolley they 'borrowed' from the supermarket. The trolley contained basic supplies such as water & food in cans and bottles; portable chargers found at the one of the tech stores as well as sleeping bags, washing kits, first aids and many other survival tools hidden under a board in case of emergency (they had a impressive collection of supplies from the mall). The voltage was high and the batteries were charged within the hour, and phones were switched back on for the first time in months - the motor home had a low electric output and was used on things like medical equipment and the radio for news - the group rejoiced upon the sight of their digital screens flaring up, to conserve power they once again switched of their phones. Conor went in search of a power switch to power the warehouse while the others charged the rest of their portable chargers/devices alas he found it inside of a spider infested power box, he reached around as spiders of all sorts creeped of his hand sending shivers through it, each leg poking his skin and creeping past. After the main switch flipped the warehouses ceiling lit up revealing its inhabitants to the group below...bats.. and lots of em. they all squealed at the light and took off blazing past the group. the warehouse was massive bigger than first expected and had power? Yet the national grid had been down for nearly 3 yrs now only big cities had barely any power at only the best of times after the first bombing on the main power stations, they ignored this and looked for what 'shiny thing' Conor had seen- well all but Samuel who sat on a box near the equipment, apparently guarding the stuff. They checked the whole building and got quite the a good lot but nothing actually that 'shiny' most was dulled due to it's age but still useful when cleaned so Conor insisted they check a little longer just to see, naturally Holly was completely against this as they'd already spent 5 hours searching for this 'shiny' that probably didn't exist but with 3 against 1 - Samuel didn't give a crap of course - she was easily overruled, they continued searching for this mysterious 'shiny thing' Conor supposedly saw and come across something very peculiar inside Samuel's box.

"A bell? You saw a Cat's bell. What a waste of time moron" - Samuel

"Oh shut it we got electricity and extra supplies didn't we? and Samuel you were sitting on it and yet you didn't even hear it yourself"

"I did i just didn't care and it didn't look any cat iv'e ever seen" - Samuel

The group sighed and gave the cat some food to apologize for sitting on him. The cat was indeed very different from what any of them had ever seen before indeed, with its black and red striped fur in contrast to to its fluorescent green eyes; he was docile and probably litter trained from the sight of used litter box beside him; he was nice to pet, before they knew it it had a name tigger as its stripes threatened those around him. He seemed very protective of Isabelle and playful towards Conor but naturally he despised Samuel (who wouldn't?). This was a nice find but meant their may be rodents it fed on so eventually they decided to leave and shut off the warehouse via its secondary switch at the doors, they trotted to the motor home tiger tagging along next to Conor and Isabelle, the sky a clear black yet no stars shone through, they used their wind-up torches to guide them through the fog-like darkness but found no sign of the place they call home desperately they scanned the area looking for any signs of it, but it location remained unknown. They all panicked like kids because well they were kids, unsurprisingly Isabelle, although the youngest, wasn't affected at the least whereas Samuel was crying oceans. Conor, Holly & Jessie managed to calm themselves relatively fast, as for Samuel he continued to not so silently cry, their home on wheels was gone in darkness, all they could do is hope, hope the mourning sun would reveal their home but that was a distant night away. Conor and Holly suggested they use the warehouse as their temporary home as although it was massive and cold it had it's mystical source of electricity that still crackled through its wires, Conor decided to leave the power regulator attached to the main wires in case they need to recharge anything, they set up a heater they found deep in the warehouses maze and connected it, it produced little heat but made a difference, once finished it looked something like a mini electric camping spot next to the crackling sound of the wires. The sun didn't rise for what seemed to be days and it felt as they fell in and out of sleep continuously, tiger was curled up next to Isabelle which was kinda cute when you consider she's pretty much a psycho. Conor was snuggling next to Jessie which grossed out Samuel who was ranting on about how there's no hope for them.

The sun rose and the light gave no hope to their lost home, the sky held it's cold and lifeless sun with clouds full of tears ready to fall; everywhere you looked an image of despair was indented into your mind, it tore at the subconscious and broke sanity leaving nights of rustling among their sheets even Isabelle had reverted back to her shy and scared self. They went in search of any food as their current supply wouldn't last much longer than a couple of weeks, Conor was in charge of communications attempting to contact Emily but it seemed no use the satellites had been destroyed in the war and as a result all forms of long distance communications was practically impossible with the current tech only the repeated message could be heard giving some hope as it meant communication of some form was possible but how remained unknown; still he continued searching the all frequencies for possible "secret frequencies". They had all calmed down but it was plain to the eye that they were scared to the soul of the journey they may well have to make, well if they decided to leave that is, but they were without out the means to leave the place and so it became their temporary home or more of a hideaway. The nights were relentless, winds throwing dust and rubble at its horrified victims and whistling through cracks in the walls disrupting what was once the closest to peace they had ever felt in such a desolate place in the world had become the most distressing in the setting of the blackened sun.
