Epilogue

When your days begin with your belly empty, and your head spinning then you'll understand. It's been like this since before I can remember. I grew up like this, spent years yearning for change that would never come. I learned that the only way change can happen in this world is if you're willing to change it yourself. I will change it all somehow. I don't know how I'm going to achieve it, but I will.

The country in which I live is beautiful in every sense of the word. Rolling hills, majestic snow capped mountains, seas as deep and blue as your imagination can dream of. All bundled together and surrounding the capital, Bogit, named for the first king of these lands. Bogit, the gifted, was what he was called. Back then he was one of few who possessed a special skill. He was born with the gift to bend a part of this world to his will. How it came to pass has long been lost to history. It's been many centuries since the death of the first king, but his effect on the world is felt more in this era than any other.

The time that I live everyone has an gift, even me. After the first king died, the nobility wanted to have this power for their own. As time passed the nobility began to seek out those born with these abilities, and began breeding them into their lineages. After a time this practice was adopted by the people below them, and then the people below them. Many years passed before this became normal. When it did, and the nobility finally stopped fighting with each other, and when a new king was selected something amazing happened. The nobility finally put aside the petty differences that had splintered them for so long. They created a new government ruled by the strongest person the country could offer. When a challenger could defeat the king a new king would rise. After a time he too would fall. This kept the power ever moving and ever flowing. Each king is stronger than the last, and completely focused on maintaining the power they wield, and keeping the country the strongest in the world.

It is a pretty complicated mess of things I must admit, but it is the world in which we live. Some people control fire, others water, steel, I have even met someone who could control the rate in which someone heals. Everyone has something they can control, or at least everyone I've ever met. The truly special people are the battle mages. They use their gift in ways you couldn't even imagine. Some even have two or three gifts they use together to create something new! Sadly my gift isn't anything crazy. I just control darkness. It's useless during the day, but at night I can turn invisible to anyone, and I can make an entire area as dark as a starless sky. I'm not proud of it, but I use my ability to steal. I do what I have to do in order to survive. And every day my gift gains strength. On my fifteenth birthday i also gain the opportunity to fight in the great tournament. This tournament allows ten people to gain access to The Academy. That is the first step to my goal. When I gain entry, I start my path to become King of Drania!
