A chance to change

After sitting with Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai for a while, Yu Chen stood up and said, "You know, I think I'm gonna lie down for a bit. I'm kind of dizzy." And off she went towards her room.


Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai looked at each other and then at Chen.


"Damn that Xia!! He's been ignoring Chen for such a small thing." Hua exclaimed.


Zenghai was thoughtful, "I don't think that's it. Something seemed to be really wrong with Xia. He sounded like a he was kind of.....I don't know.....Kind of..." he struggled for words.


Zenghai sighed, "I don't know. I've never heard him that dejected. I'm worried about him."


Hua looked towards Chen's bedroom door, "I'm more worried about her. You saw how bad she looked."


Zenghai mumbled in a small voice which Hua did not catch, "Xia sounded just as worst."


He then turned towards Hua and said, "I think I'll head out."


Xi Hua's forehead creased, "Why? It's not that late."


Zenghai rubbed her forehead with his thumb until it was smooth again. He smiled, "I'll come back tomorrow. I have the day off."


Hua hugged his waist and kissed the nape of his neck. "Stay." She mumbled.


Huo Zenghai's breath hitched and he put his arms around Hua's waist. "Okay." He whispered as he kissed her head.


Yu Chen stayed in her room the whole night, lying on the bed under the covers, but not getting a wink of sleep.


Though her body felt like it would shut down any moment, her mind refused to shut up enough for her to asleep. She pretended to be asleep the three times Hua and the two times Zenghai came in. They left without disturbing her.


So, by the next morning, Yu Chen had overthunk about everything. 


She got up and dressed in a hoodie and track pants before coming out of her room.


"Where do you think you are going?" Chen heard a voice as she headed for the door.


Yu Chen turned around to see Xi Hua in her night gown, frowning and her hands folded across her chest.


"Oh no. You're not. Not the way you look. Like you'll drop unconscious any second." Huo Zenghai's voice rung as he came out of Hua's room, still in last night's clothes.


Chen looked from one to the other. She then said, "Sorry. This is something I have to do."


And before the other two could react, she had rushed towards the apartment door and was out of it.


Huo Zenghai was the first to recover, and by the time he was at the door, Yu Chen's feet could already be heard thundering down the stairs.


"We need to go after her. It's obvious where she is going." Hua exclaimed as she too rushed to the door.


Zenghai shook his head, "She's right. This is something she needs to do. If she doesn't, god knows what might happen."


Xi Hua was immediately infuriated, "What do you mean by that? Should we let her go? In that condition!!!!??? She'll probably not even make it to Xia's home."


Zenghai took her in his arms and kissed her forehead, "Don't be mad. Of course we'll go after her. Let's just give her a moment. I'm sure she will be fine. She's our Chen after all."
