A chance to change

Xi Hua hovered over Yu Chen, very worried, "But why is your stomach behaving this way? Is something wrong? Is your period due? Did you eat something bad? What could be it?"


"Don't make a fuss Hua. I'm sure it's just the cold." Chen assured her.


Hua's face immediately turned stern, "Of course!! What else would you expect after standing in the snow for so long. Come on, we're immediately going to the hospital."


Chen hurriedly shook her head, "Don't. Please. I'll be fine when I'm rested. Just.....bring me some coffee or something, please?"


Xi Hua sighed as she straightened up, "Fine! But you're not getting coffee. I'll warm up some milk for you. And I'm getting medicine when I go to the hospital tonight."


"That's non-negotiable." She added, seeing Chen open her mouth.


Xi Hua spent the whole day with her, fussing over her and trying to make her eat something.


She only stopped when Chen puked again at lunch. Hua had arranged for Huo Zenghai to come over and 'hang out' as she called it, and 'watch over' as Chen called it, after she left for the night shift.


Just as Xi Hua was getting ready to leave, and Yu Chen was sitting on the couch, wearing an oversized t-shirt and her face almost touching her laptop, Hua's phone rang.


She huffed as she came back to the living room. "What's wrong?" Chen asked, not looking up from the laptop. Her colour was still a bit green, but she seemed fine other than that.


"Hmph. Zenghai's got to do some overtime. He won't be able to get out of the office for some hours." Hua huffed.


"Ohhh...." Chen responded as she continued typing away.


Xi Hua: "What should I do? Will you be fine by yourself Chen?"


Xi Hua: "Maybe I'll skip tonight's duty, call in sick or something."


Xi Hua: "Maybe Ling is free. I'll ask if she can come over."


Xi Hua frowned, "Chen? I think you should come to the hospital. Check if you are pregnant or something."


"Will you look up from the laptop for a few seconds damn it!!?!?!?" Xi Hua snapped as Chen looked up like she was woken up from a deep sleep.


"Huh? What's wrong? Why haven't you left yet? Isn't Zenghai coming?" Chen asked as she looked around.


Xi Hua slapped her forehead, "Damn! I forget how preoccupied you can be with your laptop."


Chen said nothing as she looked around, "Where's Zenghai? Who's watching over me?"


Hua huffed, "We're not watching over you." 


"He's doing overtime. I'm thinking of calling one of my friends from the hospital to sleep here for the night." Hua said as she typed away on her phone.


"Sure." Chen waved her hand as she went back to her laptop.


Xi Hua smiled fondly as she looked at Chen's back, bending over the laptop.


Seemed like the Yu Chen she loved and admired was back. The one who could, and would built an entire world for herself, by herself. Without needing anyone else.
