A chance to change

Xi Hua's words were cut short by the doctor coming out of the emergency room.


She hurried forward towards the doctor and asked, "Doctor Zao? How is she? What happened? Will she be fine?"


Hearing her words, Si Xia looked up and stumbled forward. Hua frowned, but said nothing as the doctor began, "The patient is suffering from frostbite due to exposure to extreme cold. Did she stay out in the cold for long?"


"She waited outside in the snow for someone." Xi Hua said through gritted teeth, eyeing Si Xia, who said, "Doctor? Will she be fine? Will there be any lasting effects?"


The doctor eyed Xia before turning to Xi Hua. He said, "Xi Hua, you should know better than to let anyone be out in this cold weather for such a long amount of time." 


Hua hung her head as the doctor continued, "But the good news is that the frostbite is not that severe. She should be waking up anytime soon. And then we can run some tests on her and if everything's fine, she can be discharged."


Xi Hua looked up as he continued, "Xi Hua, how do you know her?"


The doctor smiled, "Then you will be able to take proper care of her once she's discharged. I hope you'll do that."


Xi Hua nodded as Si Xia said, "Can we see her?"


The doctor looked at the two of them and sighed, "Sure. But she's still unconscious, and take care not to move her."


Saying this, the doctor instructed a nurse about something and took his leave.


Xi Hua ran inside the room followed closely by Si Xia. Seeing Yu Chen's lifeless body lying in the bed, and all those needles connected to her arm, Hua was petrified. Her lips were still blue and body was so pale that her jade skin looked more like wax, stretched across her body.


Hua walked forward with trembling steps and touched Chen's cheek, it was so cold that anyone would think that she was already dead.


Upon this thought, Xi Hua broke down. She slumped onto her knees beside Chen's bed and her body began to shake. 


Si Xia walked forward, his steps faltering. He looked like a puppet that was being led forward. He lightly touched Chen's free hand, she looked so fragile, so breakable.


A whimper escaped his lips, which led to Xi Hua looking upward. 


She huffed in anger and yanked Si Xia away from Chen. Si Xia, despite his strength, was easily yanked away, like a little puppet.


"How dare you come in!?!?! Get out!!!! GET OUT!!!!!!" Xi Hua shrieked, pushing Si Xia out of the room.


The nurses ran in and took hold of Xi Hua.


One of them said, "Hua? Calm down!! You shouldn't cause ruckus in a hospital, especially in a patient's room. You should know this much."


"And Hua? Aren't you still on duty? Shouldn't you be at your post?" Another one said.


Hearing this, Xi Hua calmed down a lot.


She freed herself from the nurses' grasp and walked forward and looked Si Xia right in his deep black eyes.
