Yu Chen frowned but did not reply. Si Xia looked at her worriedly.
"Say Chen, did you talk to Mian? She hasn't even been calling me for the past few months." Mrs. Yu continued.
Yu Chen dropped her head and mumbled, "I know she's in the city. But no. I haven't talked to her."
Mrs. Yu began to lecture Chen for being an irresponsible elder sister when Mr. Yu cut in. "Have you been busy Chen?" he asked.
Yu Chen nodded and spoke, "I had some issues to deal with. Mian completely slipped my mind."
Right now, Si Xia wanted to reach into his heart and rip it out. He hated himself so much for causing more trouble for Chen when she already had so much on her plate. She had gone through so much because of him in the past month.
Xia looked up, ready to reveal what had preoccupied Chen during the past month when Mrs. Yu spoke with a sigh, "It's not your fault. She's not a kid anymore."
Si Xia was surprised upon hearing this as Mr. Yu joined in, "We raised her good. She can take care of herself, just like our Chen."
"I just hope she would call once in a while." Mrs. Yu sighed before changing the topic.
"Save some space for dessert everyone. And the traditional dumplings." Mrs. Yu spoke, standing up.
"Mom. Mom! Please tell me we are having ice-cream for dessert. And shrimp dumplings!" Yu Chen exclaimed, jumping up and down in her seat.
"Quiet down! Only you would want to eat ice-cream after a traditional dinner. No. We're not having ice-cream. And one more word, and you'll not get any dessert!" Mrs. Yu reprimanded her before going towards the kitchen.
Chen pouted and hung her head as Mr. Yu reached out and stroked her head. "Don't worry. I know she has made shrimp dumplings. Cheer up!" he said with a laugh.
Yu Chen lifted her head and smiled at her dad before whispering to Si Xia, "You better finish all this now. Mom hates people wasting food."
Si Xia: "....."
Though there was no ice-cream for dessert, Yu Chen nevertheless enjoyed the peach buns her mother had made.
Si Xia actually looked like he was fighting a war by the time Mrs. Yu brought out the auspicious dumplings.
Chen hurriedly snatched one dumpling and bit into it. Mr. and Mrs. Yu laughed as they also helped themselves.
Si Xia gulped as Mrs. Yu put a dumpling in his bowl and said, "Go on dear. Try it. You might get the coin."
Yu Chen reached out and took another dumpling as Si Xia took his first bite.
"Slow down Chen. It's not a competition." Mrs. Yu spoke as Chen stuffed her face with the dumpling.
"Oh come on mom! These are so tasty! And the more I eat, the more chances of me getting the coin." Yu Chen replied with her mouth full.
Mr. Yu spoke with a laugh as he finished his first dumpling and reached for a second, "That's not sure. It's not a probability game."
"Oh it is. You don't...." Yu Chen began but her voice trailed off as Si Xia bit into something and took out a shining coin from his dumpling.
