She told everything she had thought out to Hua and Xi Hua had her face in her hands by the time she was done.
"Oh god Chen!" Hua said, "Only you could think of something like this." she added, looking at Chen and trying to put on a disapproving expression on her face. But she failed to do this and ended up with an endearing smile. "Though I have to say, you really are pulling off this young boy look. I wish I had a nephew as cute as you." she added, ruffling Chen's hair who stuck out her tongue with a smile.
As she was about to walk away, Xi Hua seemed to remember something. She turned around giggling and said, "Please tell me Xia, or at least Zenghai knows about your get up." She shook her head upon seeing the mischievous smile on Yu Chen's face and walked away with a smile, muttering, "Not going to be a boring party, that's for sure."
An hour later . . . .
Yu Chen pulled Hua aside as she came to get a drink in the kitchen. "I just received a text from Zenghai. They'll be arriving in fifteen minutes." she said, very poorly contained excitement quite evident on her face.
Hua's face lit up with a radiant smile as she nodded and rushed out of the kitchen calling out. "Fifteen minutes people!! They'll be here in fifteen minutes!" Chen rubbed her hands together as she also went out. She had been feeling bad the whole day for lying to Xia, but she had really wanted to surprise him on his birthday they would be celebrating together in a long while.
The click of the lock was heard some ten minutes later in the deathly silent bungalow. Seemed like Huo Zenghai couldn't wait after knowing everything was ready and had drove a little too fast.
Si Xia let out a long sigh as he hung his car keys in the dark and switched on the lights. And as soon as the lights came on, there was such an uproar and the united shrieks of 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!' that the take-out boxes he held in his hand, for the small dinner he was planning to have with Zenghai, almost slipped out of Xia's hands.
He caught it at the last moment and turned to look at Huo Zenghai, trying to calm down his heart from the scare it had received. "You were in on this!!" Si Xia said, his voice a comical mix of surprise, anger and amusement.
"Of course I was!! I wasn't about to let my boss and best friend go without a celebration." Zenghai said with a laugh, lightly hitting Xia on his back. Si Xia also let out a laugh as people started to come up and wish him, everyone trying to wish him individually but doing it all at once.
Xia was happily surrounded by his friends from work, "Oh god you devil! Didn't I see you just a few minutes ago at the office?!?!" he exclaimed upon seeing one of his co-workers, who laughed and lifted his glass in a toast.
Si Xia laughed. He laughed and joked around and talked, but his eyes were still searching for the one person he was hoping would be here.
