Chapter 3: From Red to Gray

'You used to mean the world to me, I used to think you are more than what I asked for, but now, you are not even enough. Goodbye, Lucas.'

That morning, Lucas grabbed his phone and called someone.

'It's me, Samantha. I'm busy now so just please leave a message. Toot toot'

'Hi Samantha, see you in school later. I miss you, it has been a year.'

Lips as white as blood, skin as white as the first snow, and a voice that as sweet as a honey in the morning. They meet since they are freshmen in college, and now they are sophomores. Lucas was captivated by the beauty her face and personality beholds. Since he can't hold back what he is feeling inside, he gathered all courage of the world, and asked her to be his girlfriend. A miracle was sent by heaven, and Samantha is also growing flowers for Lucas.

However, since the accident happened, Lucas took time to recover from his emotional and physical pain, making him not able to attend school. But now he's coming back, he was once reluctant, but thinking about meeting his other half makes his conviction whole.

Right before he can open the door, the sound of his phone dominate the house.

'Let's meet up at a cafe in your neighborhood.' she said in a cold voice.

'Why? Don't you have classes now? I'll fet--' and the call ended.

Cluelessly, he still took the path to the nearest coffee shop in the area. He grabbed a taxi on his way.

Upon arriving, a warm voice welcomed him. It grabbed his hand and lead him on the nearest table. It was near a window. If he could just only see, he'll be amused by the exquisite view of the minimalistic and tropical ambience of the cafe.

He heard footsteps coming his direction. It was her scent, the scent he fell in love with two years ago and up until this day, he stood up and accidentally his hand hit a glass and it fell into the floor and the resonance of its broken pieces can be heard inside the establishment.

'Ow sorry, I didn't mean it.' an employee came quickly to clean the mess.

'No, sir its fine. It was an accident stay still and I'll clean it, Ma'am you may sit down.'

'Samantha? Samantha? Is that you? I know it's you. How are you?.' But she didn't respond. She just stared blankly to him, now they both sat down.

'So you're really blind now.'

'Were you so busy that you weren't able to visit me? I fully understand you, we're on college now, we can hard---.' she cut him off.

'I don't wanna see you.'

'What?'

'I never visited you since I heard you went blind. It may sound selfish but I don't want another extra baggage. We are in college, I need to focus on my studies, I don't wanna spend my time taking care and watching over you, so I realized I better make myself disappear from your life.'

'Do you still love me, Samantha?' his voice started to crack while saying the phrase which at this moment hold his one last piece of hope in living in this cruel world. He doesn't want to utter those, but he don't wanna insist himself to the women he love and loved him.

'I did, believe me, I did. I just have to think of myself now. Let us live separately, away from each other. You used to mean the world to me, I used to think you are more than what I asked for, but now, you are not even enough.'

'No, you didn't love me. You just loved the idea of having a capable partner. Now that I'm in pieces, I was expecting you to come and help me put my life back as to what it is before, but you are making it worst now. But I understand you, sorry if I am making things hard for you, I never want you to feel burdened. I hope the thought of me letting you go brings ease to your life, goodbye Samantha.'

She lets out a deep sigh and stood up without a word, she gets out of the cafe like how she excavate a hole for exit at Lucas heart. Then right outside a door, man was waiting, their fingers intertwined, they left the coffee shop, holding hands.

Lucas was left at the table, he know he should not, but the lump on his throat brings heaviness to his heart and eyes. Little did he know, that an an empathizing heart and eyes is watching him from a distance.

Now that he held up all his senses back together, he tried to stand up but he felt a sting in his head, forcing him back from where he was seated.

An employee noticed and assist him. She get all his belongings, lead him to the front door and called a taxi for him.

'Sir, are you sure you don't wanna go to the hospital?' she said.

'I'm fine. Thanks. Now, let me go.' she hurriedly let of the man's arm.

As the taxi left, she wave a goodbye but later realized that the man was blind 🤦

She then returned to the cafe, cleans up the table and saw a piece of paper in the table Lucas used to sit.

'This can't be...' 😣
