Zoe's heart hammered wildly in her ears, and she was almost sure Zhang Wei could hear it too as they both walked into the private intensive care room the doctor had directed them to.

Her palms were very moist, and her mouth was so dry that she could almost taste her fears. She walked very slowly and tried to ignore the beeping sounds and lights coming from the machines and monitors by the bedside.

Zoe took one look at her sister and couldn't bear to look at her a second time. She was looking too pale and lifeless, and the oxygen mask on her face bore witness to her struggle for life.

Zoe turned away from her as her eyes were blinded with scalding tears and buried her face in Zhang Wei's chest, giving in to the hot tears that poured uncontrollably from her eyes.

This was the second time she was seeing her sister in a hospital bed in less than two months, and this time, she had taken a worse hit than the last.
