New Course 12

RED'S POV

"The president himself called and instructed me to admit her in a suite room," the OB-Gyne-on-duty who was also my friend told me as soon as she locked the door. She was still panting in anger and frustration because the woman again insisted on going out. She had even gone hysterical.

"Do you know the president?" I snapped my fingers at my side; my voice a little louder than a whisper as I fixed my gaze at her.

"No, of course, but he asked to talk to any OB-Gyne around. He even told me to admit her under the best OB-Gyne in this hospital. Most of all, she instructed me to keep this matter confidential."

"What is happening to her? What is her name?" Her mention of the president made me suspect that this lady was the one involved in the scandal. Sean and I had just even talked about them.

But-

Is she Calla?

"Her name is Rya Sevilla," my friend's voice broke into my reverie.

I held my breath for a moment, then sighed in relief. "What's her chief complaint?"

"Nausea, dizziness--eight weeks AOG."

Eight weeks age of gestation means she was two months pregnant. And that period when the conception started was approximately the time when Sean had been with her in Sama Island.

The thought sent shivers down my spine, and I bit my lower lip hard, praying that this was only my presumption.

"She isn't Calla, right? She is Rya Sevilla." I recited this litany in my mind repeatedly, oblivious to the fact that my friend was watching me.

"Red, do you know the lady?" She pulled her brows and looked straight in my eyes.

I shook my head vigorously, realizing my transparency. "No! I'm just overwhelmed by the fact that she is the president's woman."

"Have you heard the news?" she whispered, her widened eyes showed her curiosity.

"It's on the news this morning." I shrugged, trying to pretend this news had nothing to do with me.

"I see." So, she also heard the news.

I pulled her out because I left my new boyfriend outside. I was still expecting resistance from the lady the moment my friend and I went out of the lounge. To my surprise, she was already on the ER bed on moderate, high back rest. Standing not from her was Sean. A nurse was also at her side, inserting an intravenous line.

Sean walked towards me as soon as he saw us coming out. He smiled at my friend before placing an arm around my shoulder. Guilty for not introducing him, I stopped. I cleared my throat, and speak out, facing everyone around. There were five nurses, three post-graduate interns, one housekeeper, and two orderlies.

"Guys," I called out, holding the upper right arm of Sean. Everyone responded right away and paused from whatever they were doing. The lady on the bed also looked up and watched us.

I glanced at Sean before running my eyes to everyone around. "Please, meet my boyfriend, Mr. Sean Mark Grey."

"Hi, sir!" all of them chorused as they cast us a shy gaze.

Sean looked back at me and smiled. He also pulled me closer and pressed his lips on my temple.

"Happy to meet you all, as well," he said, throwing me a happy and a romantic gaze before he looked at everyone.

"It's a piece of wonderful news, sir, Red." My OB-Gyne friend then reached out her hand to Sean, and the latter gladly accepted it. I knew that those piercing gazes the rest stole at us were mixed with questions about mine and Eric's status.

"Indeed. I'm the happiest."

My friend chuckled, but she rolled her eyes on me. I knew she was happy that I finally took steps away from Eric. I softly laughed, winding an arm around Sean's waist.

Somehow, my eyes wandered, and in my peripheral vision, I caught the lady's intense gaze at us. She hurriedly looked away anyway, when I looked at her directly.

Having no other patients left except for this woman, I pulled Sean away and brought him back to the direction of the coffee shop. I let the teasing atmosphere cool down first before resuming my work. We seated ourselves in a corner table, sipping our juice while chatting about the lady. It was still around ten in the morning, and the coffee shop was still quiet.

"I wonder how the staff managed to convince that lady to stay. How did they do it?" I was confident in asking him since there was no one around, except for the lady behind the counter.

"I helped," he answered casually, but he seemed to get lost in his thoughts. I ignored it, though deep in my heart, I wanted to ask.

"She's lovely. I first thought she's a famous model while watching her in outburst."

He held his glass in the air while giving me a quick stare as if he had something he wanted to talk to me. Before he could speak out, my phone vibrated. It was the chairman, calling.

"Dr. Fabella?"

"Darling, the board has decided that they are not going to accept no as an answer from you. See you at the Founding Anniversary night for the turnover."

I stiffened in my seat and got tongue-tied. Dr. Fabella had already ended the call, but I remained staring blankly at the opposite glass wall of the shop. I got too overwhelmed by his announcement.

Weren't they cruel? Forcing a position to someone unwilling and unprepared? I pouted as I talked to myself. Sean noticed the change in my mood, and he asked.

"What is it, dear?"

"It's Dr. Fabella, ignoring my refusal." I gave him a brief idea of our agenda earlier this morning, and how reluctant and nervous I was even at the thought of it.

"Accept it. I'm sure the decision came after careful planning."

"Sean, I have no idea about-"

"I'll prepare our attire for that night. I'm sure you'll invite me as your escort," he grinned after cutting me off. I almost got pissed off, but that gentle smile of him always melted my heart.

I went back to the ER after we consumed our drinks while Sean also left. My mind was on my worries about becoming a chairwoman in a few days that I did not look around and see who was there.

"Doc, congratulations!" a sweet voice broke my imaginations. I looked up and saw that the one speaking was Rya Sevilla.

I raised a brow, wondering what she meant. Yet, I smiled warmly at her.

"Thank you, but--"

"For being in a relationship with Mr. Grey." Her grin spread wider as she laid it out to me.

"Y-you know him?" I asked, maintaining a smile.

"Who doesn't?"
