The Truth 5

RED'S POV

"Where have you been?" I asked, my eyes planted on the mess of his appearance.

He gave me a sheepish smile and apologized. "I'm sorry I kept you waiting."

"You look bothered," I commented, running my eyes up and down on him.

"I am. I'm sorry. Something came up."

He seemed not interested to talk about what bothered him, so I decided to keep my mouth shut. I always know when to stay silent and when to open my mouth. Men hate nagging, and they hate to talk about themselves. I tried to ignore this uneasy feeling, so I wrapped my arm around his waist. He also placed an arm around my shoulder, and we walked together towards the dining room.

When my head hit his chest as he pulled me closer to him, I smelled a strange scent. I pulled a long face, wrinkling my nose afterward. Sean seemed to notice my expression because he withdrew his arm from my shoulders and held my hand instead.

"Dear, may I go to the bathroom first?"

"Of course," I nodded, releasing his hand.

I proceeded to the dining room, pouring an iced tea into our glasses. I also put some food into our plates so that it would cool down a little before we start to eat. In less than five minutes, Sean came in. His hair was already dripping with droplets of water, and he was already wearing a bathrobe.

"I feel hot, so I took a quick shower," he said when I run my eyes on him again. I wondered why he felt hot when the thermostat of the aircon was at its fullest.

"You look better--fresh and handsome," I said, smiling, but my eyes were on my plate.

"Thank you," he chuckled while pulling out a chair across me.

We were halfway through our meal when his phone vibrated. He placed it on the right corner of the table after he settled himself on his seat. I glanced at it, and the word "Samsam" floated on his phone screen.

He grabbed the phone and put it between his shoulder and his head.

"Yes."

"Thank you."

"I'm with my fiancee."

I only heard his side of the conversation, and my bad mood suddenly disappeared when he acknowledged me as his fiancee. I kept my eyes on my plate, but in the corners of my eye, I saw him stealing glances at me.

"It's someone unimportant," he shrugged, and I couldn't care less, either.

"The name is beautiful. Samsam. She or he?"

"The name applies to both men and women." He continued to eat, evading my question indirectly.

Realizing that Sean was not in the mood, I stayed quiet until we placed down our spoon and fork. I was about to stand up to clean the table and wash the dishes, but Sean also stood up and pulled my hand. I looked up to him with a questioning look, but he did not say a word. He just took steps forward until we were out of the dining room.

I thought we would sit down on the couch, but he continued walking until we entered my bedroom. I just followed him like a puppet until we reached the bed.

"Let's take a nap together," he said, pulling me down on the bed. I landed in his arm, and he enclosed me right away in a tight hug. "I'm really exhausted."

"What did you do this morning?" I asked, glancing up at him. He was indeed different today, not the usual calm and cheerful person.

"Nothing much," he replied in a lazy tone. He was closing his eyes, so I no longer asked the detail. I also closed my eyes and enjoyed the warmth of being in his arms until I dozed off.

The ringing of the phone woke me up, and because I was on the outer side of the bed facing the bedside table, I reached out for it. The ringing had stopped but a message popped up on the lock screen. The message came from the name Sean registered as Samsam. I also checked the name of the missed caller, and the same name was in the notification.

"Sean, I need the doctor's prescription for my supplement. The baby needs it the most this time."

If this Samsam was not important to him, why would she ask him for something like this? It's about pregnancy and such matters are directed to a husband, a boyfriend, or a family member.

Does it mean Sean has impregnated someone else but who? According to him, Calla was her first. Does it mean he has found Calla already? Is she the reason why he seemed disturbed today?

I scrolled up the screen to reveal the notification again. Once it displayed, I read the number and committed it to my memory quickly. I should find out about this while it's still early, and while it wouldn't crush my heart into pieces yet.

It hadn't gone a minute yet after I settled back in Sean's arm when he started to move. I closed my eyes and relaxed, pretending I was still asleep. After a few minutes, he slowly lifted my head and placed me on a pillow. I then felt the bed sank on one side, telling me that he got out of the bed. I listened to his movements, sharpening my sense of hearing. When his footsteps faded, I slowly opened my eyes. He was standing by the window, his hand was on his ear with a phone.

"Don't worry. I'll ask that doctor who handled you."

"Alright. Just keep in touch."

These two sentences I heard him said were enough to create turmoil in my mind. Who really is this Samsam? I tried to put the pieces together to come up with an answer.

Samsam...Sama...Sama Island; and Calla is from Sama Island! Damn it.

I hurriedly closed my eyes as I saw Sean turning to face in my direction. I heard his footsteps again coming towards me. To my surprise, I heard the sound of closing and opening of a door. I flew my eyes wide, thinking that I just did not hear correctly. To my surprise, the door he opened was the door of a closet.
