Ryan did not run back, but instead, he walked towards his dormitory as he mulled over about how crazy life-changing today was.
Rose Robinson, his girlfriend.
Because of his urges, he almost lost another person in his life but thankfully, she was much more understanding than he thought she would be. What was the most important, she actually believed him.
Ever since his condition manifested, there were many who labeled him a beast or a pervert, believing that his reactions were done on purpose. He could not blame them for their disgust. After all, he knew no known medical condition or studies about a situation similar to his own. Even across the internet, he could not find a reliable source that could explain his seemingly primal urges.
Maybe, I should really get myself help from a mental health professional?
Ryan considered the implications, only to shake his head, throwing that idea away from his mind. He knew that he was not dangerous, but once his condition got exposed, he would be considered a threat to society. Once he was officially tagged with a mental problem, authorities would never let an individual like him move with freedom. Even if he could be stopped with just one word from the victim, a person who physically harasses women was still a degenerate in the eyes of the public. He would probably be locked up in a mental hospital until they figure out what to do with him.
The only solution that he could think of was falling in love so hard that there would be only one girl in his mind and no one else. Of course, he had never fallen in love yet and could not test his idea fully, but this was everything he got for now. Staying away from females for the rest of his life was never a viable option.
"I guess I will distance myself from women other than Rose for the time being. She knows she can stop me now so today's situation shouldn't repeat again," Ryan decided after deep contemplation. He took a deep breath as he finally entered the university grounds and sped up towards his dorm, deciding to take a shortcut via the University Park, the central and largest park within Phoenix University.
His afternoon classes would start in about fifteen minutes, thus he needed to hurry if he wanted to arrive on time. He still needed to change out of the clothes Rose lent him and get his study materials for class.
Hmm?
As soon as he crossed the University Park, the all-too-familiar building of the male dormitory appeared in his sight. Jogging closer, something highly unusual caught his eye.
There was an extremely beautiful woman in her late twenties standing by the dorm entrance. She seemed to be checking out every person that was leaving, as if she was searching for someone. If Ryan were in her shoes, knowing the consequences, he would not be as brave—after all, she was a lone pretty flower facing hundreds of horny students.
As expected, the boys had surrounded the beauty, all willing to help her like white knights in shining armor. Some rushed back towards the dorms after talking to her, probably in an attempt to call out the lucky person she was waiting for, while the rest stayed to entertain her with a conversation.
This had nothing to do with Ryan so he avoided the small crowd and went aroung them towards the entrance, planning to reach his room as quick as possible.
Unfortunately, fate had a different plan for him.
"Ryan!"
A sweet and pleasing voice called out to him from behind, forcing him to halt. There was only one female in the area. He need not be Einstein to know that it had to be the beauty from before.
He turned around and saw the very woman walking up to him with a bright smile on her face. The first things he noticed were the two black pearls in the place of her eyes, then her long and straight black hair fell gently onto her white elegant jacket that covered a black office dress.
Ryan had to admit that she was both beautiful and sexy, and at any other time, he would be flattered to catch her attention. However, he was in a hurry right now and despite her stunning appearance, he had no memory of her. He could not figure out who she was and how she knew his name. For some reason, he thought her face looked familiar but he could not remember exactly from where.
"Is there anything I can help you with, miss?" Ryan asked politely. He took off his hood as he spoke, immediately receiving the glares and scowls from the crowd of guys that initially circled the woman.
Before anyone got the chance to curse him out loud, the beauty turned around to face the bunch. "Thank you for the help, boys. I can handle the situation on my own."
"Alright." They quickly nodded and walked away, not without giving Ryan a series of warning glances.
Their attitude mattered little to him; he did not personally know any of them despite living in the same dorm for the last few years. He was still confused about what was going on, though.
The beauty in black dress turned back to face him and giggled when she saw his questioning gaze. "Maybe I should introduce myself first," she spoke softly as she playfully bit on her lip. "I'm not sure if you have checked my profile yet but I'm Jennie. Your mother talked to me about you and promised she will update me this morning whether I'm chosen or not. Hearing no news, I decided to check on how you are doing."
Hearing the clues in her words, his mind quickly connected the dots.
"You are one of the candidates my mom chose?"
The beauty nodded, full of smiles. He immediately smelled trouble. Remembering the issue of his grandma's inheritance, he wanted to call his mother and cancel her matchmaking off as he already got a girlfriend on his own. However, seeing one of the potentials appear on her own, it seemed cancelling this would be a bigger hassle than he initially thought.
"Listen—" Ryan began his rejection speech, but the beauty named Jennie cut him off.
"How about you invite me over to your room so we can talk in peace? It will be bad if anyone eavesdrops on our conversation, right?"
Jennie did not even wait for him to answer when she took his hand against his will and dragged him into the building. She turned her head as they walked and winked at him.
Ryan brushed her hand off, feeling quite intimidated by her dominant personality. Although her voice was sweet and she was smiling gently, she felt…off. Gut feeling told him that her behavior was just a mask she put on. The dissonance made him ill at ease.
He was about to reject the woman once more when she suddenly got closer to him—too close for his comfort, in fact—and poked his chest with a long, black-lacquered nail.
"I don't give up easily. If I have to follow you everywhere, I will." Although she did not say anything else and simply stared at him, seemingly waiting for his decision, the threat was evident in her words.
Gosh, why did my mom pick such a scary girl for me? Ryan lamented, realizing his gut feeling was spot-on. With how Jennie approached the case, he had no choice but to invite her over, else she would for sure create more problems for him.
Any sane person would know that her approach was definitely not a good plan to claim his heart, much less get a good impression from him. He had no idea what game she was playing.
"Fine, follow me. I can only give you a few minutes as my classes are about to start."
"Sure," Jennie agreed right away and followed after him in silence.
Ryan got a few jealous glances from the male students as the two of them walked down the hallway. Although females were allowed in the building, mature women as stunning and attractive as Jennie were a rarity, if not the first, inside the male dormitory. Thankfully, Ryan was not stupid enough to get attracted to the opposite sex based purely on appearance. He was already past that period in his life. He would rather focus on a girl's personality, and appearance could come second.
When they reached his room, Ryan dug around the paper bag he was carrying, got his key from the pocket of his dirty sweatpants, and then opened the doors to let her in. She was surprised by how small his lodging was but still entered the room like she owned the place.
Just as he closed the door behind him, she wondered out loud, "Your grandma is a billionaire. How come you are living in the dorms?"
"So you come in and the first thing you do is shame my living condition. You are really making progress," Ryan commented sarcastically. He placed the paper bag to the side and walked up towards his bed to pick up his phone. "You do realize that I'm the one who decides who I'm going to date, right?"
The brazen woman simply laughed at his comment and placed her fancy handbag on his study desk. On the other hand, after unlocking the screen of his phone, Ryan saw that the profiles his mom sent were still open. He quickly scanned through Jennie's details.
"Don't worry, I'm confident I can make you fall for me in no time," Jennie assured him. "I am here because I want to know more about you."
"I don't think that's necessary," Ryan muttered as he finished looking at her data. He did not hesitate to tell her the truth. "I already have a girlfriend. My mom didn't know I had one so she arranged for you. I'm sorry."
Contrary to expectations, Jennie took the blow in a stride, not even a change in her smug expression.
"And? Does that change anything? In the end, you are still going to be mine."
She winked at him with a saucy smile and sat next to him on his bed. Ryan had no inkling where she got all that confidence from, but she was just too much for him.
"I think it's best if you leave," Ryan said directly, changing his approach. It was his fault for even inviting her over. "I will inform my mom about the situation."
To his surprise, Jennie's response was to shrug off her white jacket and lie down comfortably on his bed.
"Nah, I'm good. I kind of like this place." She idly gestured for him to leave. "You should hurry and attend your classes. I will wait for you to come back."
Watching her behavior, Ryan got really irritated. He had the urge to throw her out of the room, but if anyone was to witness him 'maltreat' such a beauty, he would definitely be hated by everyone.
As if she had read his exact thoughts, Jennie took off her black high-heels with nonchalance. "You are not going to throw me out, right? I will scream if you do."
"You are really annoying."
Ryan stood up, having neither the time nor patience to bother with her. His class was about to start and he had still not prepared. Too bad, Jennie was not done with him like he was with her.
Just as he passed her, the woman reached out and gave his hand a sharp yank. With her feet blocking his legs, he lost his balance and fell down straight on top of her, only barely managing to stop himself from crushing her underneath him with his arms.
"I didn't wear a bra today," she crooned seductively.
It was so random that Ryan unconsciously looked at her chest to check. At the same time, he saw a flash from the side.
Click!
The sound of the photo being taken reached his ears and he instinctively pulled away from her. He saw her holding a slim smartphone on her left hand. She quickly tapped on the screen before he could snatch it away.
"Photo sent. Now, Mrs. Morgan won't believe you didn't choose me."
As Jennie announced that, she showed him her phone. She had sent a message with an image to his mother. It was an incriminating picture of her biting her lip with her eyes closed, as if she was helplessly thrown onto the bed by him, and Ryan was on top of her with an aggressive expression that could be easily mistaken as lust.
The caption under the photo was, 'Can't stop himself.'
"You are crazy!"
Ryan simply walked out of the room before she attacked him again. He did not want to gamble with his urges once again.
Hearing the doors slamming shut, Jennie flinched and sat up, staring at the door with an embarrassed smile. She was really ashamed of her actions just now but she didn't have another choice.
"Did I overdo it?"
