Beep, beep. Beep, beep.
A quiet beeping resounded in Ryan's dorm room, slowly pulling him away from his dreams. His eyelids trembled and opened ever so slightly, exposing his light blue pupils that lazily looked around.
His mornings were always like this, his brain needing a moment to wake up and regain its focus. Today was special though as he wasn't alone.
Mhmmmm...
A pleasant sound hit him as if someone was waking up and stretching right next to him yet he could see no one laying beside him. He realized all the sounds were coming from the phone charging next to his pillow.
So she wasn't joking...
His eyes finally opened fully as he picked up his phone. Ryan saw he was still connected on the call with Rose and the timer already showed more than eleven hours. He recalled her sweet request before they slept and smiled gently, flashes of memory displaying their conversation from yesterday.
"Good morning, sunshine," Ryan called out with affection, adapting to the change they made to their status. He wanted to show he was serious about being her boyfriend.
"Morning~" Rose replied softly, not surprised by the sudden greeting but then he heard her slam back into the pillow with her head and muttered sleepily, "I don't want to get up… It's so comfy in my bed…"
"It's already six-thirty, don't your classes start early today?" Ryan asked as he checked the hour, realizing it was the first time he woke up this early.
"Mhmm… They do. At eight." Rose replied without thinking, not expecting Ryan would suddenly hurry her, "Well then chop-chop. Get up and start to get ready else you will be late."
"Ah, nooo…" Rose immediately protested and pleaded sweetly, "Can't we chat some more? Give me five minutes… please?"
Ryan couldn't fight with her like that so he agreed with a sigh, "Ah, fine. Five minutes. No more. I am getting ready now."
He left the phone on speaker as he started getting dressed, wearing his sports tracksuit.
"What are your plans for today?" Rose asked cheerfully as if happy that her charm worked and Ryan quickly recounted his plans as he stretched his body, "I will first go for a run, train a bit at home, take a shower and then visit a mall to buy some clothes. I wanted to look fresh on our date."
"Mhmm, good idea. I will take you to my favorite cafe. They have a dress code so they won't let you inside in your tracksuit, hehe." Rose teased playfully causing Ryan to roll his eyes.
"Hey, I'm wearing normal clothes too!" Ryan scolded but Rose only laughed, getting into her good mood.
"I really want to see you in a suit. I wonder how you would look like." Rose thought out loud before asking curiously, "Will you stay in the mall till two P.M or anything else planned?"
It was hard to believe he would stay at the mall for six hours so he explained further, "I plan to visit my mother at work. I have some matters I need to talk about with her. I will tell you about it on our date." He grabbed a banana as he spoke, needing some energy before running.
"Okay~" Rose agreed without asking questions which surprised him. Rose was too curious about a girl to miss such an opportunity to nag him for spoilers.
Too bad, he didn't know that Rose also had something special to share with him.
As he got ready, wearing his running shoes, he called out, "Rose, five minutes are over. I'm leaving for a short run."
Not knowing how much time she needed to get ready, he finished the chat before the allocated time limit.
"Liar, it hasn't been five minutes…" Rose protested unhappily but Ryan didn't give her any chance to stall anymore and counted to five.
"Five."
"Four."
"Three."
"Two."
"One—"
His words were cut just when he was about to say zero as she called out, "Ah! I'm up! I got out of bed already."
"Good girl," Ryan praised with a grin, feeling like to squeeze her cheeks if he could and suggested, "Send me a message when you reach your University."
"Then you send me one when you leave for your shopping," Rose countered back and he naturally didn't mind, "Sure. I'm going out, talk to you later."
"Bye~ Don't slack in your training!"
———
He left his dorm room after a short warm-up and jogged towards the stairs in an especially good mood. Ryan only noticed it after he ended the call with Rose, finding himself smiling as he walked by the mirror.
It was a rare sight for him, especially in the morning when he was always sleepy. He touched his face at that time, checking if his smile was fake or not but whenever he thought about Rose, the smile would only reappear. His only conclusion was that Rose genuinely made him happy.
He didn't know if that was because of his feelings or maybe because it has been a while since he talked, bantered and teased another woman while having fun with her. In the end, he simply accepted this positive change, enjoying the moment.
There was rarely anyone awake in the male dorm at this hour so he was able to leave unnoticed but as he jogged towards the University track, he had to pass by the female dorm building.
A group of young girls carrying books happened to be leaving through the dorm entrance and noticed him, shifting their attention in his direction. It would be awkward to just ignore them so Ryan smiled and waved at them before jogging away.
He noticed them waving back with the corner of his eyes but he didn't stop. He already had Rose so he avoided chatting with random women.
The track was right behind the female dorm so he reached it a moment later. He was lucky that his University had a full-sized Olympic track right beside the dorms. There was no one using it so he had it all for himself.
Okay, four laps should do…
Ryan took a deep breath and began running with his hoodie on as the weather was still a bit chilly today as well. Only as he was finishing his first lap did he notice that the girls from before were sitting on the stands, watching with interest as he ran.
He found it weird but ignored them, focusing on his workout. There were usually many people on the track so he didn't mind being watched. It took him five or more minutes to finish all four laps when he slowed down, calling it quits. He still had to finish his workout back at his dorm.
"Hey!"
Just as he was heading towards the entrance, the girls also stood up, one of them shouted out to him in a friendly manner.
He turned around and called back, "Yes?" He wasn't really interested so he only vaguely glanced over them. They were all fine in appearance but he didn't even try to compare them with Rose as there was no competition.
The leading girl with a black heart painted under her eye blushed and muttered while trying to act cute, "I just wanted to tell you have a nice smile."
"Oh, that's all?" Ryan blurted out, not expecting such a comment.
Seeing her nod shyly, he smiled in gratitude and accepted the praise, "Thanks." He was in a hurry so he didn't dilly-dally and jogged away from them, leaving it at that.
Ryan wasn't dumb and could figure out she flirted with him yet there was nothing else he could do. Rejecting her directly would only give her friends some content to laugh at.
"I guess I should smile more?"
———
Saint Mary University was one of the most famous private schools in the city but the high level of education and strict internal rules weren't the main reason for that. It was the fact that not only was it an only-girl University but also because the acceptance criteria were too high for an average student to handle.
There were many limousines parking in front of the University entrance as drivers dropped their misses for classes. In one of them, Rose was sitting at the back, getting ready to leave. She only had five minutes to her class so she was in a hurry.
Rose wore her usual University uniform with a white shirt, a long blue skirt that she purposely raised and a similarly colored jacket which matched the whole set. Because it was still February, she wore her white knee-socks as well to avoid getting cold. Recalling how Ryan looked at them yesterday, she didn't mind this part of the outfit.
"Miss Rose, you don't need me to pick you up from University today, did I hear correctly?" the driver asked to confirm.
Rose already opened the doors but hearing the question, she closed them and replied, "Yes, Sebastian. I will return on my own today with my boyfriend. My parents know about it."
There were many of her friends walking nearby so she didn't want them to hear anything. It would be a pain to explain how she got a boyfriend in one day so she decided to keep it hidden for now.
"Alright, Miss. Was just making sure. Enjoy your day," the driver wished and she finally left, calling out cheerfully, "Thanks, you too!"
Sebastian has been her family's driver for a few years already so she knew him well.
Getting off, she ran towards the entrance, bypassing the strict female professor who was glaring at the late students while tapping on her watch. It was almost time to close the gates.
She reached the class right before the attendance list started and sat down on her seat with a sigh.
I made it in time, oof...
Rose wanted to pull her materials to prepare for the class when she recalled Ryan's suggestion from earlier. She let go of her books and pulled out her phone, taking the opportunity that their professor was busy and messaged him.
'Hey~ I reached the class in time. I barely made it. How was your training? Did you finish already?'
After some thought, she switched to the front camera and shot a simple photo of herself, showing her tongue cutely. It was kind of embarrassing to do in front of everyone so she quickly sent the first one she took and placed the phone on her lap.
Bzzz, bzzz.
Her phone buzzed a moment later and she quickly looked at her phone, tapping on the notification without checking. It was forbidden to use phones during class so she needed to hurry.
'See, I told you to hurry in the morning yet you didn't listen. By the way, you look great today~ I just finished showering so my hair is still wet.'
Rose read his text and smiled, wanting to banter with him more when Ryan suddenly sent a picture as well. He was shirtless with his hair falling on his eyes and the towel on his shoulder. All of his abundant abs and chest muscles were exposed for her to see.
Her eyes widened and Rose almost hid her phone on instinct but she stopped herself at the last moment, wanting to take another look. It was much less embarrassing compared to ogling his body in real-time. She was naturally curious about how he looked.
Since when did he have such a nice smile…?
Rose quickly shifted her focus from his droplets-covered abs towards his face where his dimples begged to be poked with her fingers. She wanted to play with his lips, bite and caress his face, yet she knew it was just an image.
She shook her head to throw away her lewd thoughts and vented her frustration in a short message.
'I hate you.'
