Inferno

My muscles tense up, I feel the mass amount of energy flowing through my body. Steam rises emanating from all around. With the temperature rising sparks start to fly out, before finally surrounding my body in a blaze of red flames.

This should be enough for whatever she throws at me. Red flames max out at eighteen hundred degrees Fahrenheit, add on to the fact that my ability also vastly increases all of my physical attributes.

"Its been a while since I was pushed this far to use this." I say.

"It seems that you are a worthy opponent after all, and here I was thinking this was already over."

"Don't get too cocky you bitch, I'm just getting started."

"What did you call me you bastard? You're going to regret saying that, this time I won't hold back."

That's what I was hoping for. Insulting your opponent makes them angry and they tend to get sloppy. On the other hand, if she keeps her cool, she won't hesitate to kill me as quickly as possible.

She forms a thick orb of water around herself while also creating those sharp needles to surround the orb as well.

So she kept her cool after all. She is, in fact, a seasoned fighter and is worthy of her rank. The orb around her acts as a shield to protect her from my attacks, while the needles can attack me if I get too close. It creates a layered defense, attacking me as I go in for the kill and an extra protective layer in case the first one doesn't work.

The only problem with that is the needles are too thin. If I get too close, the heat radiating from my body will dissipate them before she has a chance to us it. She would have to fire at the right time, the speed at which they move could hit me before they evaporate.

I'm at a severe disadvantage here. If I test her defenses by doing hit and run tactics she would be able to get her timing right before I have an opening. It looks like I have to finish this quick by going all out on my first attack.

Just as I'm about to go in for the kill she changes her defenses. The needles that were surrounding her orb are now being absorbed by it. Did she notice it that fast? She already deduced her weakness? She might be able to shoot them straight out of the orb as well. If that's the case then I cant attack straight on without taking heavy damage.

Still, no one should be able to do that. All of us are biased towards ourselves when it comes to fighting so we don't see our own flaws. Somehow she was able to and without attacking me once.

The water orb starts to increase in size and I presume thickness as well. It is now three times her height. Holding something up like that would take a lot of energy.

That's it. She thinks that because I'm an enhancer that I would try to end this quickly due to the strain on my body. However that is the weakness in her strategy, all I need to do is drag this fight out. She made the wrong choice at the wrong time, she shouldn't have exerted this much energy so early on in the fight.

With a single step, I take off at full speed running towards her. I guess the timing of her attack as I approach changing my direction to a forty-five-degree angle but at the wrong moment. Her water needles protrude from the orb and hit me with accurate precision. Five needles embed themselves deep in my chest before shortly evaporating.

I yelp in pain as I lose my balance and tumble on the ground before catching my self and keep running. I can't stop even if she hits me if I do she will continue to pelt me with those needles until I die.

My wounds will heal in no time but since I'm not wearing my helmet, one hit from them to my head and it will be all over. As I'm running I slowly retreat to keep enough distance between us.

Her attacks don't let up this time as I have to keep changing directions and feint changing directions to keep her guessing. The last thing I want to do is have a pattern in my movements that she can follow. Wave after wave of attacks keep coming, it doesn't look like she's going to give me a break anytime soon. I need to focus, there must be a weakness that I can exploit here. With no end in sight, I finally see it. Small, barely noticeable ripples form on the area of the orb right before the needle shoot out. This is what I was looking for. I can use this to time my moves perfectly, right before she attacks I will change directions and get in closer.

No need to be careful anymore, I know when and where her attacks are going to come from. No more guessing I can run at her full speed while easily avoiding her attacks.

Planting my foot deep into the ground I rush towards her as fast as I can jumping slightly off the ground to barely avoid her attacks. I'm getting close now, with one final dodge from her attack I thrust my claws into the orb. The heat is causing the water to boil and evaporate, I can feel her trying to push back as she conjures more water to replace the hole I'm making in her defense.

We are evenly matched at this point neither of us making any progress. As I push myself even harder I finally start to gain an edge. I can feel the water give way more and more as I start to reach the center where she is at. With one final push I breakthrough and aim directly at her heart piercing it in the process. The remaining water falls to the ground leaving only a puddle on the hot desert floor. The red flames around me disappear as I deactivate my ability.

"Its finally over. I have to admit this was harder than I expected. You gave me a good fight." I say.

She places a hand on my arm that is still dug into her chest and holds it in a firm grip. "I can't believe this, someone as strong as I am could be defeated so easily." She says as she coughs up blood.

"You should give yourself more credit. You were stronger than I had expected, you are indeed a worthy opponent."

With that, she smiles and closes her eyes. The firm grip she had on my arm slowly loosens before releasing, her arm drops back to her side before she slowing leans back falling onto the ground defeated. Her body changes back to her human form as all half breeds do when they die.

There was no doubt that I was going to win this fight. If she had been stronger she could have pushed me to use stage two of my ability. However only a few have managed to do that, I don't know why I thought she was going to. Maybe it was just wishful thinking.

With my mission complete all that's left to do now is get back home. Although I think I deserve to relax a little first. I teleport a pack of cigarettes into my hand, and it looks like I only have one left. Well, it's better than having none I'll have to buy another pack after I get back to HQ.
