While watching the kids go about learning magic, one of my fellow teachers, Igris, finally arrived.
"So, one of you finally decides to check on these kids, eh? What did the Mayor talk about?" I cross my legs and pout, hugging my arms around my chest to make him feel a little embarrassed. He does blush a little, which is funny considering he's twice my age.
"It might be better if we moved a bit away before discussing it." We walk a few dozen sarrs away from the children, "They say that the Highborn are making a move, they are currently aiming for the country north of us, and have been seen at our border."
"Of course they're at our border, I slaughtered a few of their slavers the other day."
I sigh internally. If these idiots haven't already noticed the slavers crossing our border, then I think that being surrounded by these idiots will just get me killed. I don't wanna have to deal with this Arthil shit when the Highborn actually do invade. I walk away, heading to the mayor's house. "Look after the kids, alright? I'm going to talk to the mayor about the hollow-world we're gonna face now."
-----------------------------------------------------
I walk back through the streets to the center of town where the mayor lives in his mansion. I sometimes wonder why I choose to stay in this town where I have nothing. If I leave now, i wonder if someone will miss me? Well, better now than later. I continue my walk towards the center of the village, looking at the faces of the other adults around me. Some of them seem to know what's going on, others are seemingly unaware.
While walking to the mayor's house, I can't help but feel that I should just travel for a while, find somewhere new to just settle down, find something better to live for. Whatever, might as well pack.
I sprint back to where the students are, most of the teachers have returned at this point. The kids are still messing around with their wind blades, Jakir in particular is doing his own thing, and seems to be deconstructing and forming his wind blade in strange ways. It's starting to look like a small blade, then a rock, and even a claw.... he might have some talent when it comes to alchemy.
Not my problem anymore, "Well, in light of recent events, I'll probably be leaving town," I say so that only the teachers can hear. "Hope you all enjoy your lives, I might visit again later."
I say what I needed to say, turn around, and walk back home. I can hear the others talk amongst themselves, puzzled as to why I'd suddenly decide to leave. Their voices seem to have made the students somewhat intrigued, everyone has stopped practicing at this point. Damn it, I don't want to have to talk to people now, especially when I've finally made up my mind to leave.
-----------------------------------------------------
My bag is packed. Runes, check. Clothes, check. Food and water skin, check. Bow and full quiver of arrows, check. Looks like everything is ready, and I can now head out. Things like knives are worthless considering my claws can cut just about anything.
Outside my house, it seems a rather small group has come too see me off, how touching.... not. I put a smile on my face, trying to come off as being happy they are here. I give people hugs, the normal formalities other go through when leaving. Jakir is bawling, looks like only one person will actually miss me.
I pet Jakirs head one last time, and start walking to the gates. The sun is at its zenith, dyeing the day a warm blue. The First moon can be seen rising, while the third moon is setting. Jakir is waving me off as I continue walking, I wave back.
After the gates, I start jogging, and head slightly Ninth, about 30° Esri of the Sun's path through the sky. I feel the ground beneath my feet change from hard cobbled road to soft grass and dirt. The warm wind pushes through my hair, and I feel somewhat relaxed for the first time in months. I watch the susa, that o had been ignoring for the longest time flit between the trees, and hear their songs of chirps.
I jog until I see the sun begin to set, at which point I decide it would be better to make camo and rest. I find a small tree to sleep under, and make a fire using some tinder and a rune to make sparks of fire. I watch as the fire burns, the tinder cracking and popping in the chilly orange light.
