Chapter 8 Lex

Lex walked into the bar and saw David in the corner. He decided to join him, so he made his way over towards him.

As he slide into the booth David told him he had a job for him. He was to meet their contact in Skyland. Her name was Lilian and he was to meet her there, and show her the price of paper.

He could do this. He had to. It was his first job. He had to prove he could be part of the RA.

When it came time to meet Lilian, he walked into the bar and headed for the booth. There was a pretty girl sitting alone in the dark, that must be her.

When he reached the table, he pulled out the paper and showed her. Lex was nervous. He didn't know what exactly to do.

He tried to talk to her, but that didn't really work. When he had asked about how she assassinates people so cleanly she kissed him and tried to kill him! The only thing that saved him was his new found power.

He had created a breeze between the knife and his skin, keeping the sharp blade off his neck. He felt victory and anger all at once as he looked at her socked face.

He replayed the scene in his mind, smiling just a little to show that he felt glad of his victory, though his eyes weren't glad, they were like burning embers alight with rage and pride. A beautiful mix just like a burning page from a book falling slowly to the ground, and watching it slowly burn away to ash.

Lex sat in David's basement, half listening to what David was saying. All Lex knew was that he was telling both Lilian and the rest of the RA who cared to listen, or who wasn't completely drunk like Mary.

He knew that they want to unite together. Even Lex knew that this was the only option left if they wanted to have a chance to defeat Arden.

Then he hears David say, "—Now, one chosen man from each leader will be chosen by their leaders to have a mock fight with Lilian."

Please don't be me, Lex thought.

"First up is Mary," David announced.

Mary stood up, off balance because of the alcohol, scanned the room, and pointed to young man, a little older then Lex.

"Maz," Mary slurred. His name was Mace and he looked to be in his thirties. He was well built and Lex was pretty sure he worked in mines.

Mace made his way over to the front of the room and stood facing Lilian. He didn't seem fazed by her looks or that she was a women.

Lilian decided she would get the first strike in. She ran towards the rebel swinging her sword in a fast arc. Mace able to block the swing, his face unfazed from the attack, as if it was exactly what he expected.

Mace only lasted a couple seconds as they exchanged blows. Soon Lilian had him pinned against the wall, wooden knife to his throat.

The audience clapped at Mace's attempt. next was the leader Gris' turn. He stood up and scanned the crowd like Mary, his eyes locking on someone.

"Vanith," Gris called.

A man stood in the crowd and made his way to the front. It was the king's guard dude. Now Lex would get to see his abilities. Hopefully he sucked, Lex wanted something to make fun of him about. Something like 'oh you got beat by a girl'.

Lex was childish sometimes and he knew it.

Vanith picked up the wooden sword, and stood facing Lilian in a ready form that he probably learn from his work. Lex watched Lilian's face as she rose her eyebrows in curiously at the man before her.

This time Vanith attacked first. Lilian wasn't fazed by this at all, instead she changed her stance so that her one handed sword was blocking, and the knife was ready to strike.

Vanith attacked, and attacked again, Lilian kept her word blocking as she made Vanith dodge her knife by jabbing it out towards him. She wanted to see what he would do, Lex thought. She is trying to see how good he is and what he needs to improve on.

Then Vanith was on the floor, Lilian pointing the wooden sword at his chest. Lilian had won by tripping the unfocused Vanith. tripping someone... Lex thought, that can be pretty useful if they don't have good footing. Lilian must of noticed something off about his footing that Lex couldn't see.

Vanith returned to his seat. The people around him laughed and punched him, jokingly, in the arms and back. They were trying to cheer him up, but Vanith wasn't sad, he was determined.

"For this battle only the elders may watch," David announced, confused murmurs started to spread throughout the crowd. "Lex come up here."

Everyone turned towards him as Lex stood and walked towards Lilian and David. Some glared while others watched him curiously as he made his way up to the front of the room. Did David know? It wouldn't be the end of the world for Lex if he did, he was planning on telling him soon, once had good control of his powers.

He did have a pretty good control over them now that he practiced with the knives. Does he want to see his power in action? Does he want to tell others about his powers?

Everyone but Gris and Mary filled out of the basement. Lex stared at the woman who kissed him, who tried to kill him. he looked over at David, and he handed him an actual sword, and actual knives.

David looked into Lex's eyes as he handed them the knives. "Show them what you can do."

He looked back over at Lilian, who also got real swords and knives. He could kill right here and now with his powers, he could try to take the air out of her lunges, but no he wouldn't do that, they needed her, besides it's more fun to see blood.

He held one of the knives loosely in his hands, he urge the air around the knife to move with his mind. He curved the air around the knife till there was a strong breeze keeping it afloat. Then manipulated the wind to fling it at Lilian.

Too slow. She blocked it with her sword. He needed to be faster, stronger.

Lex heard Gris gasp in surprise by the sight of his powers. He heard Mary's drunkenly laugh at the idea.

Lex hasn't touch the sword, he didn't like swords. They were hard to lift and took awhile to swing. Knives, on the other hand, were perfect for him. He relied on speed and strength, and now his power.

He moved around the air around the other knives still on the ground where he had placed them. They started floating. He controlled the air around each one so that they formed a half circle in front of him, the tips pointing to the ceiling.

One at a time, he curved the air around each knife to point at Lilian. Then, using a big gust of wind, he propelled them at her.

Lilian fell, flat, on the floor. Lex could have angle them down at her, but something stopped him. He didn't want to kill her. He didn't know why, since she tried to kill him, but he just didn't want to kill her. That was probably for the best, since they needed her for their alliance with Skyland.

As the knives hit the wall behind Lilian, they bounced off the hard rock and onto the floor.

"That's the end of that," David said. "This fight was only to see Lex's powers."

Then David went over to the other leaders. They put their heads together and whispered something. David nodded and walked back over to Lex.

"You are to go home," he announced. "We will tell you what we decide tomorrow at the normal meeting place. Also inform everyone still there to go home."

Lex did just that. He walked up the stairs, and faced the small crowd still there. They all stared at him when he came up the stairs, they were all deadly quiet.

"You all can go home now," Lex told them. Some turned and went out the front door while others stared at him as if they didn't believe him.

Lex gave up, if they believed him they believed him, if they don't they don't. He was going home. He needed to sleep to get up early tomorrow. He was mentally exhausted from using his power. He needed to relax at home.

So he did. He went home and fell asleep. He slept a deep sleep and barely got heard the alarm on the clock on the wall, going off telling him to get up.
