Chapter 14 Lilian

Lilian walked into the castle's dining hall. One elegant long table sat in the center of the room. The king sat at the far end of the table. Prince Zorren, who looked magnificent, was sitting on the left side of the king, his mother sitting across from him.

Next to the queen was a small man. He had a mustache and beard with short brown hair on top of his head. His glasses fit perfectly with his face.

She walked towards her seat next to the prince. Her silky dark blue dress flowed with every step she took.

As she took her seat, the King introduced her to the man.

"Lilian this is Maxium, he is the one that got us into contact with the RA. He is going to inform us about this man you've told me about!" The king said gleefully.

Lilian looked at the man for conformation, sensing her gaze Maxium nodded his head.

"I know of Lex," Maxium said. "He has the power to control air. There are more like them, but they work for the Arden. They are Arden's toys."

One thing didn't sit well with Lilian. Who is this man to know all these people and information?

She looked at the King who was smiling and nodding along with what Maxium was saying. The king is.... well let's just say he's nice.

"To know about Arden's government secrets... You must be someone special. So who are you?" Zorren asked.

Lilian smiles to herself, her and Zorren think alike! She was so happy by this very small victory she almost missed what Maxium said next.

"Well let's just say I know some people," he said with a wink.

Not satisfied with that answer Lilian decided ask the most important question, "Who's side are you on?"

The man looked shocked at the question, but Lilian knew it was all an act. She could feel the joy coming off of him and it was far away from the shock he displayed on his face.

"Well of course your side!" He sounded as if he was trying to hard.

"Lilian, dear, you shouldn't be asking these types of questions. They are consider quite rude." The queen announced. But the look on her face said she didn't believe him either.

"Please forgive me for my rudeness," Lilian said to both the queen and Maxium. Lilian hated to act poised and elegant. It wasn't for her, but yet she wanted to marry a prince.

"Now then, let's get down to business!" The king announced.

"Very well," Maxium stated. "So the reason I'm here is to tell of my research on the people known as Xs."

He paused.

"I've found that, even given to a random citizen, Liquid X can make people grow mad. I've watched a man kill himself because of it. But if the subject doesn't grow mad they are great weapons." He turned to Lilian. "Like Lex. As you are know you are no match for the Xs."

"Then can't you get this Liquid X for my soldiers?" The King asked.

"Oh of course I can," Maxium chuckled. "I have my own sources of getting the drug. And you won't even need to convince Lex to come over here!"

'The King told him that much? The King might notbe that smart but he would know that much to keep it a secret.'

"I can get you the drug on one condition." He turned his gaze to Zorren. "You make Prince Talon kill his father."

'....that's it?

No one like that king so it should be easy. Plus everyone knows that Talon has a thing for Zorren.'

"And how am I supposed to do that?" Zorren asked.

"Simple. Just get caught sneaking in to Arden. Prince Talon would never allow you to stay in the filthy dungeons with the peasants. I'll make sure you are treated nicely."

"But-" Zorren started but was cut off by his father.

"He'll do it."

"But-"

"Zorren it's for the best of the kingdom!"

"...I'll do it." Zorren said defeated.

The meeting didn't last much longer. Lilian didn't listen much after that, instead she focused on her meal. She couldn't stop herself from thinking about what would happen to her if she got the drug.

She still didn't trust Maxium. He knew too much. He isn't a friend, but he isn't an enemy either.

'Who is he?'

The thought lingered in her mind even as she tried to fall asleep.
