27_He Got None

Thank heavens that tomorrow was weekend, Mu Lihai wouldn't need to take her home from work and Li Yao didn't want to see him for the time being.

She needed some alone time and privacy. She needed to think things through.

After reading the whole report, Li Yao decided to call the sender of this email. The call went through and Li Yao took a deep breath.

"Took you so long! Were you that busy with work, huh?" a feminine voice could be heard from the other line.

"Is this true? The report isn't fabricated?" she asked the other woman on the phone.

"Are you doubting my ability? It took me years to finally get some findings! The Mu family really got it great, they covered the whole things up like it wasn't even there to begin with." she said with amusement apparent in her tone.

Li Yao was trembling and she almost couldn't believe it. She wanted to confront Mu Lihai straight away, ask him the real story, demand all explanation from him and lash out everything she wanted to say in his face.

But..

She didn't have the heart to.

She loved him.

How could she do it then..?

She really loved him.

And she realized she loved him just recently. She didn't want to give this up.

"But Yao Yao, there's something wrong with the investigation as I was looking through it." the woman continued after she cleared her throat.

"When I got the findings, I also checked their authenticity. You know what, this man.. Mu Lihai, he was a bit drunk, yes. But it wasn't to the point of being intoxicated at all. The BAC was 0.04%. His car- the Porsche he drove, it was in good condition too."

Li Yao was stunned.

It wasn't a strange occurrence for people in this country to drive after a little drink. It was fairly normal, even.

"There was definitely something wrong with your mother." the woman explained.

Li Yao didn't believe it.

She couldn't believe it.

"What?"

The investigation that she had waited all her life.. gave her something that she didn't expect at all.

The driver was her boyfriend, Mu Lihai. But according to the report, it wasn't quite his fault.

It was even hinted that her mother was the one in the wrong? Did she cross the road without looking?

What the hell really happened on that day?

Li Yao clutched the phone in her hands. Her knuckles turning white.

She couldn't stand being helpless and sad. She was done and fed up with all the sorrow and sadness. She didn't want to be weak again. Not anymore.

She needed to know what was wrong with her mother on that day.

Mu Lihai went to his bedroom for some rest after they had their dinner. He plopped himself down on the mattress and laid on his back with one arm resting on his forehead. After he took out his beige long coat, black suit, and his blazer, only his white shirt remained intact to his body. His threatening V-line was visible for eyes to see but sadly he was alone in the bedroom without audience.

He then took out his mobile and looked for Li Yao's number. When he found it, he pressed the call button immediately.

But she didn't answer her phone, which was a first for him.

Mu Lihai suddenly got worried but as he remembered that he had personally sent her home earlier, his worry decreased by a lot. Perhaps she was in the bath or in the kitchen. And she needed rest too.

She would call him back again later, he was certain of it.

'And it's weekend too..' he thought to himself. Mu Lihai wanted Li Yao to get plenty of rest since she was busy lately with being one of their legal representatives and with her own case to handle.

Mu Lihai decided to just let it be and he got up and walked to his study where it was located adjacent to his bedroom. He planned to settle some work until midnight so that he could go back home early at work and fetch his girlfriend home next week without a hitch.

Time passed and as he was immersing himself in front of his laptop, with one hand holding a cup of coffee, Mu Lihai didn't notice that it was already past midnight. He sighed to himself and pinched the area between his eyebrows. Easing the fatigue he was currently holding up.

He brushed his hands against each other to provide himself artificial warmth as he could feel the heater not working much for his current condition.

After a few minutes, Mu Lihai took his phone to look for messages sent by Li Yao.

He got none.

Didn't she notice his miss call?

Mu Lihai wanted to give her a call but looking at the time, he decided against it.

'I'll call tomorrow.' he let out another sigh.

Noting that he couldn't proceed with his work any longer, he took off to his bedroom and washed himself up with warm water. The fatigue disappeared gradually and Mu Lihai swiftly went to sleep.

He didn't know what was to come and what was brewing in Li Yao's mind right at this moment.
