29_Something was to Change

"I told you she's here! Why is she here?!" the old woman, who was Li Yao's aunty said in a hushed tone. But she didn't cover her hatred and anxiety.

She had locked the door and made a phone call to Li Jin, her and her late brother's cousin.

"How would I know? What did she say?" the man with a gruff voice asked, seemingly alarmed.

"She said she's here to retrieve something." the woman named Li Mi said as impatience laced her tone. She was beautiful even though she was already in her forties.

Li Yao's father had three more siblings. He was the second child. All of his siblings were woman, he was the only male. So their parents doted on him a lot. He got extra attention from his parents. His older sister also liked him.

But after he died when Li Yao was still five, his older sister was the one that asked for Li Yao's mother to hand over their vacation villas and beach houses around the country.

Eventually, all sisters ganged up on Li Yao's mother and she lost the fight. She only got this house left. But that too changed after Li Yao's mother died six years ago.

What the sisters didn't know was that Li Yao's parents had many other assets other than physical properties. They got to know this some time before Li Yao's mother passed away and once again, her mother was pushed to the corner.

As a 17-year-old, she lost the fight even at the starting line. Li Yao lost her inheritance altogether. Barely holding on to get herself a scholarship from her law college. She was determined to get everything back.

"Don't worry so much or else it will show on your face. Just chill down." the man said calmly but even he was getting restless.

"What if she already knows about it? What do we do?!" Li Mi inquired as she raised her voice.

"Just relax, let's meet up later." the man told her. He was already thinking of a plan inside his head.

Li Yao rummaged through the shelf but she didn't find anything worth attending to. She started to lose her patience.

"How am I supposed to know anything like this?" she talked to herself out of frustration.

Then her eyes darted to the most inner part of the bottom shelf. If she wasn't mistaken, that was her mother's notebook. Her mother loved to scribble something on her notebook that was not work-related.

Li Yao took it out and opened it.

This was actually her mother's diary!

Her heart beat loudly as her eyes focused on the date written on the upper part of the page.

She found it!

Her mother had written something a few days before the accident.

Li Yao instantly put the notebook inside her handbag and she quickly tidied up the shelf again. It appeared clean and neat again as if no one ever broke into the place in the first place.

Li Yao walked outside the room and she locked it again. Her aunty went down the stairs and she shouted.

"Why would you lock it again after opening it? That room is not yours anymore so leave it open!" she said annoyingly. It was hard to finally be able to open that one room.

She wasn't interested in that room before, but it didn't mean that she didn't want to use the room.

Li Yao as usual, ignored her aunty as she stepped outside the house and disappeared as if she was never there.

Mu Lihai finally arrived at country X as he was escorted to the location of the port where their materials were being held up. It seemed that an accident had occurred before the take-off.

"When will this end?" Mu Lihai asked his assistant.

"We will go back in four days, if nothing goes wrong." Zhu Kang answered as he looked over his watch.

"Here, the director in charge is waiting." Zhu Kang showed Mu Lihai the way.

When things were over, it was already evening. Zhu Kang had booked a presidential suite for Mu Lihai and he was now taking a warm shower inside. The snow in this country was even more worse than in their home country.

Mu Lihai felt really cold that he put on the heater on maximum level and the air conditioner was at the lowest. He looked for his phone and finally remembered that he forgot to give Li Yao a call.

"Damn.." he called Li Yao instantly.

And again, she didn't answer. But this time the call went straight into voicemail.

Mu Lihai called her again and the same thing happened. He became sickly worried. Did something happen to her?

As Mu Lihai was wondering what was happening, the door to his suite opened. He saw Zhu Kang getting inside with a file in his hand.

"What?" Mu Lihai thought that something happened with the subsidiary company.

"I got the report that you asked several days ago." Zhu Kang said. It was that report regarding the accident six years ago.

"But I advise you to finish your work here before reading it." Zhu Kang stated his opinion to which Mu Lihai frowned.

"Alright then." Mu Lihai said as a sigh escaped his lips. He also wasn't ready to know about it. If possible, he didn't ever want to know.

"Did you read the content inside?" Mu Lihai faced his assistant.

"I just compile all the information. I didn't have the time to read it." true to his words, Zhu Kang didn't really read the report although he was the one that gathered all the data. His workload for being an assistant alone was making him super busy.

Mu Lihai gave a faint nod. After some more briefing from Zhu Kang regarding their schedule tomorrow, he was finally left alone. He pondered over the file on the bedside table near his bed.

What if something was to change after he read the report?

He didn't want to think about it.

At least not until he returned back to the country.
