55_Like a Sister

Li Yao opened the door after the constant ringing that sounded as if the world would end so soon. Her eyes widened at the sight of her only one best friend- who was in a gauze on both of her arms and even her left leg.

"What happened to you?!" Li Yao shouted as shock washed over her.

"Now now, don't just stand there. Invite me in, please." the woman said with a chuckle. Li Yao's expression was comical.

Li Yao immediately wasted no time in helping her best friend into the house. Once she was seated, Li Yao went to the kitchen to make tea and serve some light dishes she kept in the fridge. As she was busy reheating the food, she saw her friend coming over to the kitchen with utmost difficulty. Having her right leg as the only support.

"Why did you stand up? Just sit in the living room. Don't move anywhere!" Li Yao scoled like a giant mother she was. And the other woman just laughed her off.

"I'm fine. No need to worry so much." she told Li Yao.

"You're not fine, Meng Rou. How did you even get it to this floor?" Li Yao questioned, but then she thought of the elevator and she closed her mouth.

"Hahahhaha! You and your constant worries!" the woman named Meng Rou laughed as she didn't bother to stiffle it up. Li Yao rolled her eyes and went back to reheat some food.

"The same as that hot boyfriend of yours." she continued and that got Li Yao to give her full attention back to the woman.

"You knew?!" Li Yao had her eyes wide like a panda.

"Of course, who do you think I am? He always fetched you from and to work. I didn't even know such a devoted boyfriend actually existed."

"So you.. really.. he.." Li Yao stuttered without getting to finish her words.

"Yeah, the same man who hit your mother with his car. And also the president of Mu Enterprise, Mu Lihai." Meng Rou answered like it was nothing.

"But.. that.. how did you?"

"Yao Yao, don't get me wrong, okay? I was just looking out for you like an older sister should do. And he passed- he got 10 out of 10." Meng Rou said and now she was already sitting at the counter.

Meng Rou was a beautiful woman, she colored her hair blonde, and was taller than Li Yao. Her eyes were in light brown- almost golden. She always wore her hair in high ponytail and rarely did Li Yao saw her in any other style. She also didn't let her hair down most of the day- except when she was sleeping or when she took a shower.

With her sitting on the kitchen counter, Li Yao soon finished reheating the food and she served Meng Rou without waiting a second.

"What did you do this time?" Li Yao asked her. She was aware that Meng Rou lived on her own and she often locked herself up in her room without any lights to focus on her computer.

"I didn't do anything! I tried calling for a delivery service for some food but I just remembered to buy some toiletries. So I figured I could just go out to the convenience store and buy things and food at the same time. But then.."

"But then..?" Li Yao repeated Meng Rou's last sentence. Her eyes narrowed down at her injuries.

"But then I even forgot how to drive a freaking motorcycle! It's been months since I last came out, man!" Meng Rou said in a defeated kind of voice.

"So you got into the accident because you forgot how to bike?" Li Yao asked for a confirmation.

"Sort of, yeah.." Meng Rou scratched her head, embarrassed.

"Do you know how stupidly careless you were, Meng Rou?" Li Yao asked in a voice so calm it made Meng Rou's lips twitch. She was supposed to be older by two years! Why was she being interrogated like this?

"Come on, eat first." Li Yao heaved up a heavy sigh before she poured tea for Meng Rou. She didn't want to put pressure on her only best friend that she had now.

Meng Rou was friends with Li Yao when they got to know each other in law college. Meng Rou was a senior at that time but they got along well. For some odd reason, Meng Rou omitted her real family name from Li Yao when they first introduced each other. And Li Yao didn't bother to ask why. She even came to believe that 'Meng' was her best friend's family name despite Meng Rou telling her it wasn't. So Li Yao just called her Meng Rou- as in her full given name after Meng Rou prohibited her from calling her 'sis Meng Rou' as it made her feel old.

"You always come here when you're in trouble." Li Yao said but not as to offend the woman. She even had a small smile over her face.

"Sorry about that. But yeah, actually- I'm not sorry." Li Yao heard her and she smacked the woman's shoulder lightly.

"Stay here however long you want. It's been months since I last saw you." Li Yao said. Remembering their recent phone call where she asked Meng Rou for clarification on the findings she had sent.

"Did you cry?" Li Yao jolted back from her seat when she heard the question suddenly. When she turned her face from the tea pot to Meng Rou, she saw sincerity in her best friend's eyes. Meng Rou was genuinely worried.

"I did. A lot, actually." Li Yao chuckled hearing her own words.

"Like a river?" Meng Rou joked and Li Yao just nodded.

"You know why I didn't bother to call you immediately after telling you my findings right?" The blonde asked, her eyes boring into Li Yao.

"Yeah, I know. You wanted to give me some space. And truly.. I appreciate that. You know when to do and to not do something for me. I'm surprised you know me so well." Li Yao smiled her most beautiful smile ever. It was a kind of smile that she only gave to Meng Rou- her only company during the years of being alone.

"You should thank me then." Meng Rou teased Li Yao as she took one chicken crispy wanton with chopsticks and she munched it on.

"Thank you." Li Yao didn't mind Meng Rou's attitude and she just laughed as she gave her thanks.

"Yao Yao, do you know that saying about how when you once cry, then you won't cry for the same reason again?" Meng Rou suddenly asked Li Yao.

"I've heard that before." Li Yao said.

"Then you won't cry again for what already happened? You resolved everything with that president Mu?" Li Yao then knew that although Meng Rou could easily use her experience as a hacker to investigate what happened between she and Mu Lihai- Meng Rou didn't. Because she wanted to respect her decision.

"We resolved everything, Meng Rou. You don't need to worry." Li Yao answered honestly.

"Thought so. Only brainless woman would want to break up with that hot and sexy president Mu." Meng Rou stated to which Li Yao scowled.

"Why do you think I care about his appearance? That's not the reason why I don't want to break up with him." Li Yao reasoned. Meng Rou was really a good teaser. And a very spiteful one at that.

"Well, his appearance SHOULD matter to you, Yao Yao! Don't you realize how pretty you actually are? You only deserve the best, periodt." Meng Rou said her words.

She really didn't know how clueless Li Yao really was. She was technically a fairy! Just like her voice, her face was smooth without unnecessary maintenance- Li Yao could be pretty without applying anything to her face. She was a naturalist. And only Meng Rou had seen Li Yao's body up close without having her in a formal attire.

And gosh, Li Yao's had the best curve ever. Her breast was just the right size for her body and height. Her dark brown hair was magical, it fell down perfectly without her trying. Her hair was even naturally curly but not too much. It suited her face- and for those who didn't know, Li Yao had a prefect diamond shaped face with narrow point forehead and attractive cheeckbones.

"Alright, I get it! I should mind his appearance, geez!" Li Yao said, defeated. She didn't need Meng Rou to tell her that fact. She knew Mu Lihai from head to toe!

And he was far away to the distant for being handsome- because he was simply godly. No, not godly.. Li Yao remembered he was an angel back then when she first saw him. So she would stick with that.

"You know what, Meng Rou?" Li Yao suddenly faced Meng Rou.

"What?"

"You're like a sister to me. You're so sweet." Li Yao confessed. She didn't know why she wanted to relay these words to her. But she did it anyway.

"I can be your sister but don't call me sis like you did before." Meng Rou laughed with a grin.

Then they took their time talking about what they were doing these days. Reminiscing the past, making a joke and laughing it off.
