Part 9

With Aang and Katara gone, the two were pretty much on their own now. Zuko was in full panic mode already, expecting an army to ambush him at any second. It always seemed like at least one of them was being targeted by someone, they never could catch a break. Zuko decided it was a good option to just stay put in his tent, "calming and collecting himself", preparing for the worst.

There was so much to do and yet nothing they really could do. It was too dangerous to let their guard down, it was better just to follow the script, giving this new group what they needed to hear. Seated around the newly familiar campfire, a days rest might just calm their nerves the slightest.

Sokka decided to go hunting for food, one of his weakest skills. He never could find anything good. Sensing him running around in the distance like an idiot, falling on the ground every now and then in his attempts to strike his prey, she let out a long sigh, not like she wanted to eat anytime soon anyways. She couldn't help but wonder what would even compel herself to like a guy like him. He was alright she guessed, not terrible. It was too much to wrap her head around in the moment.

Some time passed and his footsteps approached followed by a thud.

"I found some, uh, fruit?"

"Well that doesn't sound very convincing, is it even fruit?"

"I mean, I guess we'll have to find out - hey, you know I just need to brush up on my foraging skills a bit, Momo usually helps with most of that stuff."

"And the animal outsmarts man once again-"

She courageously took a bite out of one of the strange spheres placed below her.

"It's definitely some kind of fruit."

"See? I'm getting better already!"

She just nodded her head with a smirk, she let him have that one. They snacked on the strange tasting fruit, enjoying any bit of peace they could get. Before they knew it the sun slowly began to set, meaning it was time for the act to continue, heading over to another ever so important doomsday meeting.

"Hey let's take the long way tonight, huh? We're a little early anyways, and it's pretty nice out."

"Whatever you say, but if my feet get tired you're the one carrying me back later-"

"We'll talk about that one later."

They walked awkwardly as usual, side by side down the trail, always a heavy silence between the two for most of their journey. Sokka would always try to throw in some small talk every now and then, but nothing significant. About three quarters the way to there destination Sokka stopped in place, letting out a small yawn.

"Let's take a break here for a sec, we're still pretty early."

She just nodded in agreement.

"You've uh, been pretty quiet lately anonymous-"

"Excuse me?"

"I do some really dumb things sometimes, but i'm not a complete idiot, I know it's you now."

"I really don't know what you're talking about."

Without a seconds noticed he grabbed her by the waist, pulling her close, pressing his lips tightly against hers. She was trying so hard to put it off, to deny everything and move on, but for that moment she let everything slide, their lips moving together as one. Slowly he pulled away, letting go of her.

"You can deny it all you want, but I know what I know."

As usual, she didn't know how to respond, she chose to just let it go, walking ahead in silence as to drop the subject. He let out a heavy sigh, following her after a few moments. They were still early but she didn't care, any distraction at all she would take. Rushing into the bar and heading to the back, she entered their meeting room. She felt a heavy tension the second the stepped inside. Everyone was nervous, panicked, fearful about something. After only a few minutes, 'The General' rushed in, everyone instantly silencing themselves. She could feel the anger radiating within him. Slamming his fists onto the long wooden table he began to speak.

"Word has spread about our attack on Ba Sing Se, there is a traitor within our group. We will not let this stop us no, we will grow stronger and continue on with our victory." Peering around the room with cold black eyes , "Imposter, we know who you are and you will suffer for this mistake."
