Saving People And Misunderstandings Are A Bitch

But ignoring such a useless observation, I charged to the shoreline, blasting the water behind me and leaving a trail of bubbling water.*

(*A/N - To run on water you'd probably be hitting the water with enough force to boil it. He's also a god, so he's going above and beyond to get to the beach)

I made quick pace and soon arrived on the beach of the island with a bang, leaving a crater with my sudden deceleration. Turning around, I ignored the shocked voices behind me and looked at the wave. Now...how am I gonna deal with you?

Can't use my physical strength - that'd break apart the island from the backlash of me using the ground to support my strength.

But...I can use that, can't I?

POV Change - Diana

Why was this happening?! How has this wave broken through the barrier?! How has the Gods' protection not kicked in and stopped the wave yet?!

I ran through the corridors of the fighting academy, rushing to the entrance so I could try and find my mother. We had all seen it. A wave that reached the sky and seemed to have been summoned by Poseidon himself. It rampaged forth and only seemed to get bigger as it traveled, sucking up the surrounding water to fuel and further it's destructive abilities.

I'm fairly sure this is to do with the shaking that had gone on for hours before it - an earthquake. I'd told them! I'd told them something was abnormal about it!

But they didn't listen, and here we are, having been caught unprepared by this gigantic wave...though I would guess we couldn't stop it even if we were prepared and tried out best to stop it.

I rushed through the streets, looking for my mother, knowing that she'd be on her way to the shoreline to observe the wave. She would never run from danger if it concerned her people. She'd always told me it was the only thing a Queen could do - not be a coward in the face of danger. It was an admirable thing...but it also worried me when she tried to be at the forefront of everything dangerous.

That's what Aunt Antiope is there for. She's the Greatest Hero of the Amazons...so she should be the one to weather the danger and protect the island. Mother should just concentrate on being Queen.

It didn't take long for me to find her and Aunt Antiope as I checked the beach first. I found them surrounded by a phalanx of Amazons as they looked at a...man?

My heart beat sped up in excitement and wonder as I looked at the back of the man.

All he had on was a pelt of wolf fur wrapped around his waist and from how it was still dripping wet - now that I look at it, he's also pretty wet - I could tell that he'd most likely came out of the sea. Is that where the average man lives? Mother and the others won't tell me about Man. They say it isn't a story for a child.

Even if I am over thousands of years old...

But looking at him, I can tell, he isn't average. Which seems bizarre to me because I've never seen another man to base that off of. But part of me could just tell.

First off, he was tall. Taller than any other Amazon I'd ever seen. He must have been around 6'5" and his shoulders much wider, matching his height. His back was straight and he seemed to look like he could hold up the world if he was given the chance. His tan skin, a light olive brown color, was littered with scars - battle scars, like the one's I'd been on Aunt Antiope. He must have been through a lot of fights to get that many, as well...

But that didn't take my attention away from his muscles. I'd seen muscular Amazons - most of us are quite muscular and toned. But this man...he had a definition and thickness that I'd yet to see in an Amazon. His body was both lean and thick, striking the perfect balance between the two. Not a muscle on his body looked useless either. Every single one of them looked strong, durable, and capable of holding an unreal amount of strength and power.

I continued my observation of the man as I ran to my mother, the phalanx opening for me to enter.

"Mother!" I shouted, gaining her confusion and then her worry. But before she could speak, I got out a few words of my own, "What are we going to do about that tsunami coming our way?! Who's that man?!"

All I got in reply, was a hand under my armpit before my mom pulled me up onto the back of her horse. Like I was a child or something. She looked back at me with a reprimanding look, she replied, "We should be safe if I activated the last defense Zeus left us, but it can only be activated manually from the beach...And this man," she said the word with an actual hatred I didn't expect to hear from my mother before she carried on, "Seems to be doing something. We will let it play out and if he fails, we will trigger the last defense before capturing this man and interrogating him on why he is here."

Hearing her seriousness, all I did was nod and look back to the man.

His hair was...different as well. He had dark hair like me, sure, but unlike it being straight and silky, his hair was wild and unkempt. But it did have a fluffiness that did make me want to touch and pat it...I wonder why?

Suddenly, the man moved, bringing his hand up to his mouth and blowing into it. Instantly, I felt the warm air that was usually present on the island drop to very cold temperatures. But I ignored that and concentrated on the man's hand:

It was covered in fog and when I looked close enough, I saw a icy blue gem floating on his palm.

The man struck a weird stance before throwing the fog-covered gem toward the tsunami.

But what could that do? Sure, it made the surroundings cold, but could it stop or freeze a wave that big? It didn't seem possible to me. Even with the fantastical things mother had told me, it was hard to believe, and they were Gods - You'd expect them to be able to do miraculous things, right?

But then the man spoke. He spoke with what seemed to be laughter in his voice, and I could imagine that he was smiling. But his voice...his voice was so cool and smooth. Like a cold breeze.

It was deep, unlike an Amazons and the words he said were foreign but I knew their meaning.

"Fimbulwinter," the one word I'd been told as a scary story to keep me from being naughty. Every Amazon had told me about Fimbulwinter, the prelude to the Ragnarok Wars where Fenrir broke loose and slaughter the Gods of the Norse Pantheon. Fimbulwinter was when Fenrir broke out and sent the world into a winter that would never end until he'd killed Odin.

These Wars had happened before the creation of the Amazons but Zeus had told the Amazons one thing when he made them. Besides their mission to unite mankind.

'Beware the day Fimbulwinter begins and Fenrir returns.'

Zeus had seen the Ragnarok Wars, he'd seen Fenrir rip through the Norse Gods and he'd seen the Wolf of the End in action and lived to tell the tale.

If this man is using that word...if he's capable of fulfilling the power of that word...then is he who I think he is...? I saw mother and Aunt Antiope go stiff and slightly pale in the face when they heard the word, so I knew they were having the same thoughts as me but obviously had more information to work with and had obviously noticed something I hadn't.

All this thinking had only taken a second, but the icy gem had already reached the wave.

And then came the flash and the cold.

It was at that point that I knew I was right. The great winter had returned. The God-Devouring Wolf was back. Fenrir, the being who had brought an entire Pantheon to it's knees and even after they sealed him again, most of them died in the task.

Opening my eyes from the flash of blue, I looked to the wave, only to be shocked by the sight in front of me; the entire wave was frozen solid. Not just that, the surrounding water was frozen in place. It was like looking at a plane of eternal winter, and the phenomenon wasn't limited to the water. The sky was covered in grey clouds and...snow began to fall from them?

For a person who'd never seen snow before, the sight in front of me...was beautiful.

. . .

POV Change - Fenrir

Well that sorts that out, right? Should do. They'll see some minor flooding as the ice melts but much better than what was going to happen before I stepped in.

Turning around I saw a bunch of the inhabitants of the island, their formation quite...unique. I'd never seen such a formation before. It was quite coordinated. Back when mine and the Aesir armies fought it'd just be two sides colliding and clashing until one side collapsed. We valued brute force over tactics. Probably why everyone ended up losing against me. Even Thor.

The formation of women moved closer to me, spears and shields in hand as their concentrated gazes fell on me, observing me for any movement.

"Who are you?" my attention turned to one of the three women currently on horses. The one who spoke up seemed like a militant person, with fierce brows and a slightly scarred face. Her eyes were hard and I could tell she'd seen war, and a lot of it, "And why did you say that word before you used that...technique? Do you not know the connotations of it?" her voice was stern and the woman next to her glared down at me, as if me saying Fimbulwinter was a terrible crime.

"Hm?" I raised an eyebrow, feeling a bit refreshed about the way she spoke to me: no one spoke to me with attitude back before I was chained up. But having everyone fear you is annoying in it's own way. They're always so subdued around you that it's very disadvantageous to social situations. Coming out of my thoughts, I smiled at the women, causing them to flinch slightly at the sight of my sharp and long canines but I ignored that and carried on, "Can I not say that word or something? It was how my mother described the season I was born in. The 'Great Winter', I hope it's not a taboo word nowadays," I smiled before walking a little closer.

The spear-wielding women did not like that. Not one bit.

They stepped forward and I was well within spear range, though I felt no threat from them so I just stood there. But before they could strike, the second woman, someone who was dressed in high-quality fur and giving off an aura of nobility and gracefulness, gave out a shout, "Hold you attacks!" she almost sounded scared. Not for herself but for her subordinates.

...She seems to know who I am, but if that were true, she should know that I'm not inherently bloodthirsty--What rumors did the Aesir spread about me while I was locked away?

The woman got off her horse, giving me a full show of the teenage girl sitting behind her. The girl was beautiful, yet still slightly immature-looking, with her dark brown hair draped over her shoulders and her brown eyes curiously looking over me and my body. Not in lust or anything impure like that, but purely with curiosity and a thirst for knowledge that I respected and admired in a youth such as herself.

Anyway, the woman, presumably the boss of the island, walked toward me and stood in front of me. She was tall but she was still dwarfed by my figure. Just when I was about to speak, she kneeled in front of me and spoke with a pale face.

"Please forgive our reception, O' Mighty Fenrir. If you must appease your anger, take it out on me and leave the others alone," she spoke with a genuine fear that I grit my teeth in rage.

That old bastard Odin. Even after I'd killed him...even after I tore him into tiny scrapes...even after all that, I can still tell that he'd beaten me in the end. First he made his own son, Vali, a sacrificial lamb to get me into that coffin, and secondly, even after I won the fight, he'd ruined my name. From the way this woman was begging and the reason she was begging...I'd become a monstrous myth. A tale to scare children into behaving.

I was no longer a God.

I was a monster.

And the very thought made my blood boil and seethe in rage.
