Both came out of the gloomy tombs after a minute. Ancestor Lan saw this place for the first time. He noticed that the buildings were constructed in a middle-age fashion, with slanted rooftops probably designed to withstand heavy rain. The sun was shining brightly overhead, and he saw a high wall fully surrounding the area with guards loitering around it. This atmosphere brightened up his already bright mood.
'Wall is a must for a good base. Wall is a must.' He remembered his great loss in an Age of Empires match solely due to a single broken wall.
As he followed the lead of Situ Rin, whose head was stretched so high like proud rooster that he was worried it might break anytime soon, they reached a big building clearly resembling those shown in Ancient Chinese movies back on Earth.
Guards noticed an aloof figure marching through the family main hall with hands behind his back, occasionally speaking a few words with the long-necked girl—wait, the neck was just stretched; aloof, skinny figure—and quickly ran to stop them.
Aloof or not, they had to do their duty. Clearly, they didn't recognize this skinny ancestor of theirs and were wondering how the duo passed through the main family gate. They yelled to stop them with signs of fear on their faces,
"Stop there! This is the Situ Family mansion. Outsiders are not allowed. Return the way you came."
The last line was clearly a way out so they did not need to fight. Guards were aware that anyone who came through the Main Gate would be accompanied by Main Gate Guards; if anyone was without them, it clearly meant that he or she was trespassing. Now this old guy was marching like it was his home, meaning he had finished everyone at the Main Gate. So there was no way they were a match for him, as Main Gate Guards were elite among them.
Ancestor Lan was clearly unaware of all this, as he came from a tomb that was already in the family compound, and Situ Rin was not well-known either, leading to this situation, as none of the books or gossipy old ladies had told her these things.
Ancestor Lan stopped and thought how this situation was similar to normal face-smacking scenes in many novels he had read on Earth back then and was a little happy. He had a free chance to curse, so he replied with a dignified voice,
"Your Ancestor here wants to meet everyone in the family. Assemble them in this hall in front of me quickly."
After saying this, he released pressure using his Qi, which he had become familiar with while walking here. He turned to Situ Rin and said,
"Lad Rin, send someone to bring me some food."
He headed into the hall, thinking about how he had not eaten anything in the last few years. Even though it was not needed, the thought that he had not eaten was enough to make him hungry as hell. Never start a game without a full stomach. That was a code to live by.
Now Ancestor Lan (Lan) was sitting in the main seat in the hall, stroking his newfound beard while waiting for the food. Guards were standing a few feet away hiding behind the pillar, occasionally stealing a few glances at the Ancestor.
Due to the previous display of power, they did not dare to question whether he was really their ancestor or not. They cared for their lives more than that. Now they were waiting for the family head while keeping a close watch on this person. Close watch in the sense that if he did anything funny, they could hightail it as fast as possible.
Lan was wondering,
"Now that everything is the same as other transcended person's novels back on Earth, shouldn't I get a powerful system? The system must be there. I must figure out how to activate it. That must be it."
He started shouting 'SYSTEM START', 'START BOOTING', 'COME OUT SYSTEM' in his mind.
Why not out loud? That is common sense if you read web novels.
After shouting for a while with no result, he started pondering it. It was then suddenly he found himself in front of a counter. He could only see the counter in front of him, with a metallic figure behind it. The figure behind the counter was similar to the robots from old comics back on Earth. Without any expression or anything on its square face, with round eyes like camera lenses, and a small mesh at the place of the mouth, probably a speaker. There was a scroll on the counter with points written on it. He couldn't see anything behind the robot other than darkness.
Lan found out that he was not able to move nor could he sense his body. After a second of confusion, he was overjoyed,
"This must be it. My system, HA HA HA!"
While he was laughing inside, he heard a metallic sound in front of him,
"What do you want to buy?"
Lan, as smart as he was, quickly started thinking,
"This robot is giving me something awesome as a startup reward. I must ask for something good, or later I will regret it."
Due to his motto to grab as much profit as possible in any situation, Lan replied,
"Give me the most powerful superpower in this Universe."
The robot replied without pausing,
"Not enough points."
The robotic voice was devoid of any emotion.
Lan was disappointed but still tried to seek some comfort by buying a gun.
"Give me the most powerful gun."
"Only items in the worlds you visit or have been to can be bought."
Robot replied with same enthusiasm.
Lan was pondering a way to scam this thing, something happened,
Robot started whirling sounds like overloaded hard drive, after a few seconds of whirling sounds, the robotic voice replied,
"Host body and soul code are not matching…
Improvising…
Synchronizing with current body…
Body cultivation exceeded the starting limit…
Generating solution…
Solution Generated!
Host cannot kill any living being.System store items cannot be used to harm any living being.
BAN will be permanently applied for the current world of Inzar."
Lan was flabbergasted. He regretted accessing the system. If he had not awakened the system, the entire ban thing would not have happened. But now he could not kill anything. However, being smart and cunning, he felt a little relieved. He had never killed anything in his last life, not even a chicken. He may have boasted about burning heaven, but actual killing was always different. Now he could harm anybody without fear of killing.
"Hu hu," Lan was very satisfied with his positive thinking. Then he remembered that by killing, the protagonist gains experience to level up. Now that he could not kill, wouldn't he be stuck at the same cultivation level? Just before he could ask, the robotic voice replied,
"Host can buy items from the shop and can increase the cultivation level by using Fame points. Fame Points are points which are shown on the scroll here. When a person comes to know your identity, whether it may be a false identity or a true one, or if they are referring to you in any way, you will get one Fame point daily until the person in question forgets about you. Currently, you have 33 Fame Points."
The robot was now explaining as much as possible.
Lan heaved a sigh of relief; he could make progress in cultivation. Now he was sure he could leave this world quickly and start completing his 'To Take Revenge' List. He did not forget that he could not kill only in this world. If he left this place, maybe he could do as he wished.
He mentally praised his mother for giving birth to such a genius son. Still, he felt sad that he did not get anything for free. Just then, the robot quipped,
"Congratulations, Host, for accessing the system for the first time. You are given the special skill Status. You can view information about anything you wish."
"Error!"
Lan was neither sad nor happy. Anything he got for free was good. But he was not sure that this damn robot could read his mind. Still, he asked one doubt out loud,
"Oh! Main thing; how to enter this place? I tried many things before entering; I was not able to enter."
The robot replied,
"Error corrected. From now on, whenever you think about it, you can enter this place instantly."
With current affairs being so shocking, he felt the need to transfer some tension to other people. Lan returned to his body with a few candies in his hand.
After returning, he found that time had not passed at all.
"So that means when I am entering that place, it does not affect this world. And by the look of the guards, my body was also here. That's sad; I cannot hide there during emergencies."
After a few minutes of chewing on candies he bought from the system, Situ Rin returned with plates of food. He grabbed another chair and placed a plate on it, starting to eat the seafood dishes. Why was he eating directly with his hands? He was like this in his last world, so he didn't want to forget his roots and habits. Yes, it was all about being grounded; nothing about being lazy to use something else. And for washing hands? He didn't think he could kill germs due to the new ban. Yes, it was all the system's fault. He was also worried he might catch a disease due to that.
The robotic voice replied in his mind,
"Error!
Host, your body will be automatically healed continuously to compensate for the 'Kill-ME-Not Penalty.'"
Lan kept praising his mom for her noble deed of birthing such genius.
Seeing the skinny old man grabbing plate after plate and munching on food, the guards were amused. By the look of it, now they could somewhat believe that the old man must be a hungry ghost who crawled out of a coffin. Situ Rin believed that this was due to the generation gap and she would respect Ancestor's way of doing things. So she was now glaring at guards who were stealing glances of ancestor's great visage.
When Situ Rin was threatening last few guards with her glares, Lan finished eating. After eating he distributed all the energy, he got all around the body. His skinny body quickly bulged up.
'How I did it? Don't ask it was all instinct. Yeah. Instinct is the keyword, like how tiger knows to bite and teenager knows to masturbate.'
Now he looked like any other old man in seventies. He bought rubber band from system and tied up his hair in ponytail. He also combed his long beard to produce pointy end with comb from system. He did not like buffed body, he again did some adjustment and become skinny like super strong old guys from novels and manga's, who has one paragraph of description about how wind can blow them and all. When he was thinking whether to purchase hair gel to shape his beard more properly, he heard footsteps outside of the hall.
