Chapter 7 - Playing the aftermarth

After a while, the team calmed down and started packing their stuff to leave, as for Mike and I left as well.

Arriving home I spoke with my parents, and learning about the news from today's meeting, they started cheering for me loudly. Thinking about this matter, they were glad their plans worked out well.

My parents are quite wealthy, that I already knew. That's why it would be easy for them to force me into some kind of obligation concerning my studies or what I do on my free time. That's something they always planned to avoid.

It's not that they didn't have a good childhood, but it was their goal to let me live a happy one. And having good news is always the best, they know I had put my mind to something, an objective, which I wanted to complete for myself and be content with it.

After I talked to them, I headed to the bathroom to take a shower.

Meanwhile, both parents stayed all lovey-dovey in the living room.

My parents met each other at the university, they married when they graduated. My father has a Ph.D. in software engineering and my mother has a mathematics degree and a master in business administration.

They both had big prospects. My dad was revolutionary about his inventions and my mother already had a job after she finished her master's degree.

We talked for a while and after some time I went to my room to play some games. I called Mike but he had somethings to do. While I was at it, I found the next place I could go out with Jessica. So I texted her.

Me [Hey, what do you think about going out next wkend? We could watch Dallas vs Houston Saturday night.]

After sending the message I decided to sleep.

I woke up the next morning and got ready to go to school.

As I arrived at school, there was a big commotion happening because of the new schedule for middle school and High school championships.

As I walked into my class, everyone had their groups and were talking about the news. When me and Mike crossed the door, a few people came to talk to us. Mostly girls. And so they barged with questions at us.

"Jay, Jay, how are you planning to deal with the new routine, I mean isn't it way too heavy on you guys?"

"Who are we playing against the next game?"

"Is coach Kyle happy with the new setting?"

I looked at all these people and said.

"Calm down, everyone. We are okay, and for now, the matchups are not decided yet. We are not even sure if our school is picked as one of the seeds. I'm sure we are going to receive news from the school soon."

I didn't see it, but our homeroom teacher was smiling at me when she saw how I handled the situation.

'He has great eloquence and he is also calm when dealing with people. He would be a great president of the student council.'

This month they were planning to announce the role of the student council president to help with the new school program. They didn't have it before because there wasn't much of a need. But now the education is going through some changes, that includes the middle school championship.

The school that I study is called "Blackland Middle School". They have one of the best standards around Dallas. Such as the student's average grades and other things. Our school also has the best equipments and sports buildings for students. That's also one of the reasons they are anxious to know if our school is select by SNAB to be one of the schools to play the championships games, and what I said earlier was just to let them calm down.

After the commotion was over, the class resumed and class passed by quickly. Break came and the cafeteria was bustling. I sit normally with the basketball team, but the tables around us were denser, everyone wanted to sit next to us.

Girls passed by and greeted the guys and they replied with foolish smiles as if they were lost in dreamland. The only ones calm were me and Mike. I was disappointed with James, as he was the most lost.

And like that break came to an end as well. We went back to class, and it proved to be as disturbed. Me and Mike had girls wanting to strike conversations with us, and some even threw paper balls at us, with messages asking if we wanted to be friends. I think they were afraid to ask something like 'Do you have a girlfriend?'. Normally I speak to everyone, but I'm not friends with them like I'm with Mike, so the questions were kind of normal.

In the USA, everyone likes basketball, so before we were only someone from the school's team. But now we are maybe one of the only schools selected to participate in the state's championship.

Our country had NBA and college to watch, now we are finally having the schools organized to play a real championship. A National Championship.

School ended after a few hours and we went to the court. Coach Kyle had already agreed with my style of training. It's havier because players need to adjust to the new schedule.

This is a whole new thing. A beautiful thing. The commitment of the organizations is truly amazing, now the game can evolve since players will have a lot more education from the beginning.

Anyways, everyone had their bodies sore because of yesterday, but they also know that this pain is temporary, soon they will be used to it.

3 hours went by. As we were finished, we had some rest because next we still playing a 5v5 match.

The coach decided to divide us so that we can play with a mixed line up in case we have problems with some sort of defense or attack. This way we can use everyone's strength.

The lineup was Me and Phill with the bench players against James, Mike, Harris, and Paul with the bench SF.

The match would be a little one-sided if I was playing at the same level as James. We managed to take a one-point lead but we still lost because one of the benches fouled Mike and they won with two free-throws.

Most of the guys took a shower at school and decided to go to a restaurant. Everybody was starving after that hell-training.
