Unbeknownst to the Doctor and Daughter pair, the girl they were treating didn't just have physical damage to her body, but her mind was going through a struggle of it's own.
Inside what seemed like a dream, the girl sat crossed legged on the cold stone ground, surrounded by complete and utter darkness.
This empty void felt both familiar and strange to her at the same time. Like she had been here before, but somehow had no memories of it. Infact, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember anything from her past at all. Only this cold emptiness.
[Have I always been here?] She thought to herself. [No.. that doesn't feel right. I must of forgotten where I came from.]
She brought her hands to her face, but was unable to see them despite how hard she narrowed her eyes to focus. It was too dark to see. She couldn't even remember what her hands looked like, let alone her face or whole body.
[How long have I been here now? A day? A week? Or maybe even years? It feels like I've never left this place, but at the time I know I don't belong here. How strange...]
Her legs felt as if they were as heavy as stones, making her stumble abit as she stood up. It wasn't very graceful, but after sitting in the same position for only God knows how long, alittle clumsiness was to be expected.
Once firmly on her feet, she picked a direction and simply began to walk. With each step she took, she could hear her footsteps echo endlessly throughout the once silent darkness.
She walked for what felt like a life time before finally reaching what felt like a cold stone wall. It felt just as the ground did, making her feel as if she was trapped inside a giant stone box.
[A stone box.. No wonder there's no air flow or light in here. Did I finally reach the end? Maybe there will be a door if I keep going.]
Her breath caught in her throat in surprise as her fingertips slid across the stone wall.
Her hand awkwardly stumbled across what she could only guess was a door handle, but as soon as her hand reached it a voice called out to her making her body freeze in it's place.
"You're leaving allready? I thought this was what you wanted. I gave this place to you because you begged me to, and now you want to leave just like that?" The voice was oddly terrifying, considering it came from what sounded like a young child around five or six years old.
The Mariella was hopelessly confused by what the voice said, and couldn't hold in her curiosity.
Her voice trembled lightly, but she was able to form a complete sentence without any errors. It had been so long since she spoke out loud that every word she spoke felt strange and unnatural leaving her throat.
"I asked to come here? Why would I ask to be sent here of all places. That doesn't make any sense."
The voice let out a child-like laugh before replying.
"You gave up. You didn't want to die, but you didn't want to live either, so I brought you here for you to sleep."
Mariella slightly tilted her head to the side. "How long have I been sleeping here?"
"Hmmmm.. fifty years? Or was it sixty? I stopped keeping track after awhile. But don't worry, your a mutt so your body won't easily age. Last time I checked it was in bad shape but still alive. Looks like you woke up just in time."
"I'm a Mutt?" She felt offended. "What do you mean by that? And how could my body be in bad shape? I'm standing here perfectly healthy."
The child let out a loud sigh before properly explaining.
"You're a Half-breed. A Mutt. In other words, a nasty creature who's human parent mated with either a Devil, Elf, or a member of the Beast Tribe. In your case, you are half elf."
"So you're saying, I'm one part human and one part Elf? Do you know who my parents where? Are they still alive?"
"How would I know something that you yourself never knew? Your mother was probably a slave who was raped by a human. Mutts born like that are very common. After all, Elves are considered property by the humans, not people."
Mariella felt her fist tighten into balls at her side.
[How could something so awful be a common acurance? What kind of cruel world is waiting for me out side these stone walls?]
Suddenly, she became curious about this young child who seemed to come out of thin air. Who was it? Why was it here? Why did it seem to know her?
"Child.. do you know who I am? Can you tell me anything about my past?"
"After you turned fifteen, I was awaken from within your soul. Unfortunately, you were allready completely lost mentally way before I arrived. You needed a place to heal your mind, so I brought you to the void. A place inside your mind."
"You were inside my soul?"
"Of course I was. That's were all Spirt animals lay dormant before their masters come of age. Usually only humans have spirt animals, but since you are half human you got lucky. Elves, demon's, and members of the Beast Tribe were given different gifts since they were blessed by different Gods.. Elves were blessed with the gift of sight, making it possible for them to see the future and sometimes things normal people wouldn't be able to. Demon's were given the Dragons Breath, a type of flame magic that can melt anything. And the beast tribe was given incredible physical strength. All races are capable to use magic, with the exception of those from the Beast Tribes. No one knows why they can't."
She took in the information silently, until she felt another question brew inside her.
" For what ever reason, I was blessed by the humans' God who gives a spirt animal after they turn fifteen, but what about the Elven God?"
"The is definitely something especially strange about you." The voice replied. "Though I don't know why that is."
Mariella ruffled her own hair from frustrated and outwardly sighed. She was allready sick of talking without getting anywhere.
"It doesn't matter what blood runs through my veins. I am just me. Fuck everything else. If we are done here, I'd like to wake up now."
"...."
"What? I can't?"
"It's just... your body is in the care of humans right now. I don't sense any malicious intent from them, but it would be strange for a human to save an elf out of the kindness of their hearts. Be on guard."
She took the voices words into serious consideration and nodded her head in agreement.
"I'll be fine." She wrapped her fingers around the door nob she felt earlier and twisted it open. As she pulled the door towards her, a blindingly bright light spilled from the cracks turing everything around her white.
