"...Have been neutralized, master. It seems the travelling merchants have been spared for the time be."
My hearing was beginning to come to from some unknown moment that it disappeared to. It was coming from my left side, while I was staring out into the horizon looking at the mixtures of colors forming into the sky as the sun was rising up.
I likely took too long to respond as some female stepped into my viewpoint.
"Master? Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing is the matter. I just seemed to be caught in a deep thought of mine."
She took my excuse immediately well. This person has a strong devotion to me, it seems. Something that felt too familiar to me now that I try to think about my life until now. The problem was that I remember some things and not much else.
I could recall my identity. I am the King of Darkness. A being that is all about bringing despair and shadows to every inch of the world I stand in. Others had different names for me: The Dark Lord, the Demon King, the Devil, The End. The last one being poetic as I do recall when my life should have ended as the King of Darkness, yet...
"We got more coming along the way! These bandits must have small fries because we got way more of them coming from the woods here!"
Another voice came from around me. This one sounding masculine and deep. Turning back to face it, I see a man wielding a large and wide bladed sword. running toward me with what looked like a small child hanging over his shoulder. He looked wounded. The female who was with me jumped off the tree we were standing on to meet them half way. I follow suit, but not after seeing a small mob of people chasing the two toward us.
As I landed, I felt it. A brief moment where my body felt like jumping from the tree to the ground to be nothing, but then something radiated from my wrist and the pain I expected to happen come to.
The woman had out her hand and something began to materialize over her palm. it was a lightly glowing paste of some kind in a bowl. he coats some of her fingers with it and begins to wipe it on the child as he rested on the ground. The man who carried him to us was holding back the upset mob, but appears to struggling keep tracking of so many enemies all at once in the low light.
That was when the thing on my wrist glowed once more. This time, even the woman took note of it.
"Master, it seems your dark power is calling again."
It was as I thought was happening. How annoying that even my past refuses to die.
I begin messing with the wrist while walking toward the battle scene. The woman stopped her healing and began assisting me into taking off the cuff. Once both of us heard it unlock, I felt my mind had become so clear. the complete memory of my past, as well as who I was supposed to be.
My presents was being felt by all the others as the battle was paused. Something to be expected whenever I took to the field against the many enemies that I had. That was one of the fun things I had in my previous life.
a small sway of my hand, and a large margin of the enemy was sent flying into the air. Their weapons and armor broke off into multiple pieces and scattered in the increasingly strong wind.
Memories of the many enemies that I have slayed in the past flash through my vision in perfect harmonization that it almost made me believe I was going back and forth between the two lives I bare witnessed.
The man whom seemed to be on my side didn't stay paralyzed by my power and took advantage of the situation to slay the rest.
And with just a few seconds of my stepping up to battle, it had ended. I quickly lock the cuff back onto my wrist and felt the overwhelming power that I demonstrated to have disappeared off the face of the planet. the remaining people around me finally let their breath go.
it was then that hit me as to why exactly I decided to keep all this power contained like this.
As the man whom was fighting off my side, swing his giant blade down where I stood. but my instincts had already pulled me to jump out of the way.
The man's expression was more annoyed than scared.
"Damn you and your spotlight stealing girth! Thought you hated showing off that crap!"
I simply gave a shrug. Luckily the child that was down was waking up, drawing the man's attention as he went to check up on him.
In this new life, I had strong magic power, but not as much as I do now. But even still, I still recall my annoyance whenever I was compelled to use it to get out of every situation I was in.
It felt like cheating. Being giving a special ticket that allowed me to do everything I wanted. Except I didn't ask for it. In fact. this life was supposed to be as normal as I could possibly imagined and yet, here I was. Now bestowed with the power of the King of Darkness, I had to now keep my seals intact. Or else. I could risk this freedom I have now and be forced onto a pillar, only to be shut down again.
If only that were the case.
As I go through memories of my new life and the many problems I must now deal with, I catch something flashing off the corner of my eye. Turning toward it, I witness a beautifully crafted castle surrounded by multiple small buildings with colorful rooftops.
That was where we were headed, and hopefully, my perferred future.
