Pham Ngu Lao

"I was thinking of our nation's safety," the man said.

Hung Dao, surprised by this answer,

"And who are you?" he asked again.

"Pham Ngu Lao sir."

"What is your position?"

"I don't have any position. I'm just a low citizen"

"Then how dare a low citizen as you think so much about the nation's safety that you ignore my arrival!" Hung Dao yelled angrily.

The atmosphere suddenly changes. Those who has shops and people walking around the street quickly left. The soldiers who have followed Hung Dao for years started sweating heavily, and even the ambassador of Yuan felt he is nothing compared to Hung Dao.

But the man did not flinch at all. His eyes were calm. Still sitting, he shouted back at Hung Dao even louder,

"Enemies at the door, the nation is home, you and I are Dai Viet's children,!!!" Ngu Lao said loudly with confidence even though what he just said is enough for the death sentence because he put a prince equal to a civilian.

"Why are you speaking to me without honorifics?"

"Because our conversation right now is not a prince to a civilian, but a child to a child," Ngu Lao answered calmly. "If what I said bothers you so much, I won't resent being beheaded."

He then looked at Hung Dao straight in the eyes, now sharp like a spear,

"Should I be beheaded?"
