Chapter 8

~Summer/Frisk's PoV~

I headed back to the courtyard to watch Medina's ceremony. Mom asked where Kayleigh was but I didn't answer. I knew too much, I couldn't risk them seeing what Kayleigh really was.

A demon. I can't believe she's a demon. I should've known after reading the book. I thought. I looked around and made eye contact with Seán, he had a knowing look in his eyes.

What does he know? Does he know what Chara is? I thought as Seán called Medina up to the podium.

"Princess Medina it is time for your ceremony." Seán announced. Medina stood up and walked up to Sean. I noticed how quickly the bowl was replaced and how quickly the ceremonial knife was cleaned. Seán quickly made the cut on Medina's wrist. As soon as Medina was thrown into her transformation he announced, "Princess Medina is of the dragons." I heard people gasp. I just watched as Medina came out of her transformation. She was a black dragon with a silver underbelly.

Medina roared loudly as if to announce her new name but no one could understand dragontongue. Seán backed up a few feet before announcing that the public blood ceremonies were over.

I tilted my head and wondered, What about Chara? She still has to go, unless… I looked over at mom, She knows what Chara is. I'm sure of it! I thought, now knowing why Kayleigh didn't come back to the courtyard. Everyone dispersed except mom, Medina, Amy, Windbreak, Crusher, Seán, and I. Glancing around I saw mom whisper something to Crusher and he scurried off.

"Follow your older brother." Mom announced. We all followed Crusher to a room called "Heaven's Room" with Seán taking up the rear. As soon as everyone in front of me had entered the room, I then tried to enter but found that I couldn't.

She's keeping me out. Chara doesn't want me near her, but why? I asked myself as I backed away from the door. "You guys go on ahead, I'll wait out here." I told mom and Seán. I watched them enter the room and as soon as they were in the room, the door slammed shut.
