Therius stood in front of his wife and was unable to say that didn't matter at all. In his eyes, it was always Emma who brought a light into his life, and now that she was dismissing it as mere chance…
It hurt him.
"Where are the guards, Therius?" Emma finally asked and shook her head in disappointment. "Did you send them away with telemancy again?"
"That's not important—" Therius tried to say. "I didn't hurt them and only sent them away."
"I used to believe that you were right." Emma smiled sadly. "That as the king of Akkadia, you had certain privileges that allowed you to do as you pleased. However, all it ever did was to make you look at others as pawns meant to be moved however you please."
"Emma, please. I just wanted to talk with you and not have guards breathing down on me," Therius said and raised his hands gently. "I don't mean any harm at all. Can't you see how much I've been delaying the war and hoping that you come back to me?"
